For several days, Ye Chuanze had not seen Hongjun. The Three Pure Ones had also left the Purple Cloud Palace and returned to Kunlun Mountain, leaving him alone in the Purple Cloud Palace. Ye Chuanze was not someone who could endure loneliness; without cultivation and no one to keep him company, he quickly grew bored. After pondering for a while, he ultimately decided to bid farewell to Hongjun and return to the Lower Realm at Buzhou Mountain.
When Ye Chuanze found Hongjun, he was sitting at a stone table by the lotus pond, deep in thought over a game of chess. Noticing Ye Chuanze's arrival, before he could speak, Hongjun said, "Since you're here, play this game with me."
Ye Chuanze choked on his words, nearly spitting out blood. "Master, I don't know how to play chess." This was true; he naturally lacked artistic talent and had never touched a chess piece in either his past or present life, let alone understood the rules of the game.
However, Hongjun seemed intrigued by this and looked up at him while holding a chess piece. "No worries, I will teach you."
Seeing that he was insistent on having him play chess, Ye Chuanze couldn't refuse without dampening his enthusiasm. He silently agreed and walked over, lifting his robe and sitting down opposite Hongjun.
Hongjun was very patient, explaining the rules of chess to Ye Chuanze bit by bit and teaching him how to play. Ye Chuanze listened attentively, appearing earnest in his studies, even though he truly had no interest in it. It was rare to see Hongjun interested in something; he didn't want to appear too indifferent and spoil his mood.
"Do you understand?" Hongjun asked as he looked at him.
Ye Chuanze stared at the board filled with black and white pieces, feeling dizzy and a bit of a headache coming on. Playing chess required high intelligence, something he felt he lacked compared to Hongjun! However, considering his tone, he replied, "I think I understand most of it."
Upon hearing this, a hint of satisfaction flashed across Hongjun's face as he said, "Then let's play a game."
Now Ye Chuanze truly felt troubled; while he understood the rules when explained separately, combining them was confusing and somewhat complex. Nevertheless, since Hongjun had spoken like that, he had no choice but to accompany him.
A moment later, Hongjun couldn't hold back any longer. "You're not playing correctly; you should do it this way!"
Ye Chuanze silently retracted the piece he had placed and moved it to the position Hongjun indicated.
Hongjun saw this and immediately felt dissatisfied, scolding, "No regrets in chess!"
"..." Ye Chuanze.
Another moment passed, and Hongjun shook his head helplessly, pointing at Ye Chuanze's nose, speaking with a tone of disappointment, "A rotten wood cannot be carved! A rotten wood cannot be carved!"
Upon hearing this, Ye Chuanze looked embarrassed, touching his nose and saying, "This isn't my first time playing; it's natural to be rusty. I just need to play a few more times."
After hearing this, Hongjun surprisingly nodded in agreement, saying, "You should come over every day, and I will teach you how to play chess. This terrible move you made will embarrass me if it gets out!"
Hearing this, Ye Chuanze looked pained. Playing chess was truly a torment he couldn't bear; he really didn't want to come back for a second time. He would rather accompany Hongjun for drinks!
Ye Chuanze tried to maintain a calm expression and politely declined, "There's no need for that. I don't enjoy playing chess with others; if I must play, it should only be with you. Outsiders don't know how skilled I am at chess, so there's no need to worry about losing face. I only dare to show off this terrible move in front of you; as long as you don't mind, that's enough."
Upon hearing this, Hongjun laughed and teasingly scolded him, "You ungrateful thing!"
Seeing that he was in a good mood, Ye Chuanze took the opportunity to say, "I have disturbed you for quite some time. Moreover, I left suddenly the other day without informing Fuxi and Nuwa. Now that I have been away for so long, they must be quite worried. I came today to bid farewell and return to Buzhou Mountain."
After listening, Hongjun's smile faded, and he said calmly, "You are neither weak nor powerless; why would they need to worry about you?"
Hearing these words from him, Ye Chuanze realized that he was in a bad mood and didn't dare to speak further for fear of provoking his anger.
Hongjun continued, "A thousand years are about to pass; the Purple Cloud Palace will once again hold teachings. You can stay at ease. When the time comes for you to leave, I will not stop you."
Ye Chuanze had no choice but to agree after hearing what he said.
In the following days, Ye Chuanze found himself living in a state of turmoil.
Since that day, Hongjun had indeed called him every day to play chess. He didn't mind that Ye Chuanze was a terrible player; he would scold him while enthusiastically playing chess with him. This cycle continued, and he never grew tired of it.
Unfortunately for Ye Chuanze, his poor chess skills were already enough to dampen his spirits, and now he had to accompany someone every day and lose repeatedly. His confidence was dwindling, and he began to question the meaning of his existence. Not to mention, he had to endure Hongjun's constant scolding and criticism. When Hongjun scolded someone, he was quite merciless and showed no regard for their feelings. Ye Chuanze went from being defiant and arguing back at first to silently enduring it without a word. How had he not noticed Hongjun's sharp tongue before? Reflecting on Hongjun's usual cold and aloof demeanor, Ye Chuanze felt deceived!
Even more tragically, Ye Chuanze discovered that his deception did not end there! Hongjun mentioned that a millennium was about to pass and that the Purple Cloud Palace would soon hold a sermon again, asking him to stay until it was over before returning. So he stayed, only to find out… that there were still three hundred years before the Purple Cloud Palace would begin its sermon!
Three hundred years!
After losing a game of chess and feeling utterly defeated, Ye Chuanze was in a bad mood, his expression as gloomy as his dismal chess skills. Unable to hold back, he sarcastically remarked to Hongjun, "Master, it's been a hundred years; why hasn't the Purple Cloud Palace held its sermon yet?" Implicitly suggesting that he was nothing but a fraud!
Having won the chess game and feeling pleased with himself, Hongjun was in a good mood and chose not to argue with him. While fiddling with the chess pieces, he replied nonchalantly, "Cultivation knows no time; a hundred years is merely the blink of an eye."
"Ha ha..." In response, Ye Chuanze could only manage a couple of dry laughs. At that moment, he realized he had been tricked by Hongjun!
Hongjun's true nature was inconsistent with his usual image; his appearance was quite deceptive. The impression he gave off was one of cold elegance and aloofness—someone who seemed upright and incapable of scheming. However, his actual nature became clear through Ye Chuanze's repeated misfortunes at his hands.
Ye Chuanze began to reflect on the past and realized how foolish he had been. He had been tricked by Hongjun so many times without seeing through his cunning and ruthless nature! Each time, he rushed headlong into being deceived.
Hongjun glanced up and noticed Ye Chuanze's displeased expression. He said, "I recently acquired a new treasure; if you like it, I will give it to you."
"Cough, cough..." Ye Chuanze's expression brightened at the words and said, "Master, you are so kind!"
In an instant, he cast aside the resentment he had felt towards Hongjun and joyfully embraced the treasure given to him by Hongjun. Ye Chuanze had always been greedy for wealth and good things, never thinking that there could be too many treasures.
Hongjun lowered his head, moving the chess pieces on the board, a hint of a meaningful smile playing at the corners of his lips. A small creature with sharp claws should be fed and soothed in a timely manner; otherwise, one should be wary of being scratched by the angry little beast.
Hongjun had truly mastered the art of taming, skillfully combining discipline with rewards.
*******
As Hongjun said, time was irrelevant in the Primordial realm, and soon three hundred years had passed. Ye Chuanze had accompanied Hongjun in Purple Cloud Palace for three hundred years. In the vast and desolate Purple Cloud Palace, only Ye Chuanze and Hongjun kept each other company, playing chess and drinking, spending a long three hundred years together.
On this day, just like the previous two times, the bell of Purple Cloud Palace rang out, echoing throughout the entire Primordial realm.
Immortals were drawn to the sound, countless immortals rushing from all directions to Purple Cloud Palace, all eager to hear Hongjun's teachings.
The earliest arrivals were still the Three Pure Ones. Unlike others, they were Hongjun's direct disciples. Whenever Hongjun gave a lecture, they naturally arrived first to avoid being disrespectful. If they were later than nameless immortals, it would not only anger Hongjun but also leave them feeling embarrassed. Thus, every time Hongjun lectured, they were always among the first to arrive.
When the Three Pure Ones entered Purple Cloud Palace, they found that someone was already seated inside— Ye Chuanze in black robes.
Seeing someone had arrived, Ye Chuanze turned around and recognized it was the Three Pure Ones. He nodded slightly and smiled as he greeted them, "Brothers, it's been a long time."
Upon hearing this, the Three Pure Ones paused momentarily. Over these three hundred years, they had not seen Ye Chuanze appear in the Primordial Lower Realm and had guessed that he remained in Purple Cloud Palace. However, seeing this scene stirred their hearts once more, each lost in their own thoughts.
"Brother Ye, hello."
I remained silent along with Sky-Connecting, while Primordial simply greeted them. The Three Pure Ones then walked over to the Lotus Platform and sat down.
Ye Chuanze didn't mind; the Three Pure Ones were always united as one. When one spoke, it represented all three, so he wouldn't be upset by it. That would be too petty; he was not like Di Jun, who was consistently narrow-minded. Ah! My apologies for dragging Di Jun into this again. Ye Chuanze silently apologized in his heart.
Thinking of Di Jun, Ye Chuanze couldn't help but feel curious about his romantic endeavors. Unfortunately, the Three Pure Ones hadn't returned since leaving the Purple Cloud Palace, leaving him with a heart full of gossip but no one to satisfy his curiosity.
As fate would have it, the next people to enter were none other than Di Jun and Taiyi.
Dressed in a deep blue long robe, Di Jun entered the Purple Cloud Palace alongside Taiyi, who wore plain brocade attire. They scanned the hall, and when they spotted the handsome stranger in black clothing with striking features, both were momentarily stunned.
Seeing the dazed expressions on Di Jun and Taiyi's faces brought great joy to Ye Chuanze. A smile crept onto his lips as he looked at them and said, "It's been a while, Di Jun and Taiyi!"
