Zhong Kui's Diary
Golden Boy Blood?
I couldn't help but recall the conversation I had six months ago in the underground Fifty-Six District, when Xiao Qingcheng asked me if I was a virgin. Golden Boy Blood refers to virgin blood. Damn it, where am I supposed to find a virgin for you with this Kung Fu?
Xiao Qingcheng handed me a needle and said decisively, "Just find any kid on the street and poke them. I'll go secure Lingfeng first."
With that, Xiao Qingcheng took out a wooden sword, chanted a couple of lines, and with a flick of her wrist, the wooden sword grew longer in the wind. She nodded at me and walked into the morgue.
I looked at the needle in my hand; it was quite special, resembling an injection needle, with a transparent bulb at the end that looked like a dropper. It was very finely crafted. Was this specifically for drawing blood? I froze for two seconds before quickly running to the duty room: "Fu, come with me. I need to find a kid on the street."
Fu asked in surprise, "What kid? What do you need him for?"
"I need some virgin blood... Don't ask so many questions; there's no time. Just come with me to help explain." The main reason I called Fu was that he was in uniform, making it easier to handle things afterward. Otherwise, I'd definitely be caught by the child's parents and surrounded by a crowd of confused onlookers who would think I was a human trafficker and beat me to death.
"Uh, I'm a virgin! Can my blood work?" Fu stammered.
I was taken aback for a moment but quickly responded without hesitation, poking the needle into Fu's arm rather urgently. I didn't gauge the force well enough, and Fu winced in pain.
Looking at the syringe, I saw that the bulb was already filled with bright red blood. I muttered an apology and took off running. At that moment, sounds of fighting came from the morgue, and as I reached the door, I saw Xiao Qingcheng swinging her Peach Wood Sword at Lingfeng.
Lingfeng's eyes had turned crimson, his once handsome face twisted into an extremely grotesque expression. Although Xiao Qingcheng's Peach Wood Sword struck him repeatedly, releasing plumes of green smoke, it seemed not to have harmed him significantly; Lingfeng was still scurrying around like a cockroach while Xiao Qingcheng fought fiercely to take him down. It appeared that Lingfeng wanted to escape while Xiao Qingcheng was desperately trying to block him.
"I got it! I got the Golden Boy Blood!" I shouted from the doorway.
"Throw it over!" Xiao Qingcheng glanced at me and swung her sword down onto Lingfeng's arm, causing more green smoke to rise.
Throw it over? Do you think I'm Invincible East? This is a needle, not a cucumber!
Watching me dazed at the door, Xiao Qingcheng shouted, "Don't you know to come over and hand it to me?"
Women are truly fickle; she clearly wanted me to throw it over, but now she wants me to walk over. Although I thought this in my mind, I didn't dare say it out loud. This woman is now close friends with Guo'er, and if she starts complaining in front of Guo'er, well, the gossip between best friends can be a devastating weapon.
Despite my chaotic thoughts, I didn't hesitate and quickly walked behind Xiao Qingcheng, extending my hand to pass her the needle. "Here!"
Xiao Qingcheng stepped beside me, took the needle, and pushed me slightly. "Hold him off for me!"
I stumbled forward and barely had time to complain before Lingfeng's distorted face was right in front of me. The sudden scare made my blood rush to my head, and I threw a punch at Lingfeng's face, knocking him down to the ground.
"Don't hit his face! He's just possessed by a ghost; don't hurt him!" Xiao Qingcheng called from behind.
That's true. I rushed at Lingfeng and started grappling with him. It was as if he had consumed two pounds of wild boar; his strength was immense. I couldn't go all out against him, and for a moment, I couldn't do anything about it. Several times I almost got pushed out the door, and it eventually turned into me desperately hugging Lingfeng's leg while he dragged me along, shouting, "Qingcheng, hurry up!"
"Alright, I'm coming!" Xiao Qingcheng finally arrived with the Peach Wood Sword. Without hesitation, she jabbed it into Lingfeng's stomach.
Damn! Who was it that said not to hurt him? I quickly scrambled up and stood aside, fearing that I might get accidentally injured by Xiao Qingcheng.
However, it was strange; even though Xiao Qingcheng had stabbed the sword into Lingfeng's abdomen at least ten centimeters deep, not a drop of blood flowed from his belly. Instead, there was a mournful howl that did not come from Lingfeng.
"Flame Dragon Killing Formation! Fire!" Xiao Qingcheng commanded sharply as a fist-sized flame suddenly appeared in her left palm. The flame rapidly grew larger in her hand until it reached the size of a Sea Bowl, with a red dragon darting around in the center of the flame.
"Flame Overlap! Swift!" The flame suddenly doubled in size with a whoosh, and the red dragon coiled around the outside of the flame before shooting towards Lingfeng like lightning, disappearing right at his chest.
Lingfeng's face twisted even more severely as he began to convulse violently, flailing his arms and legs in place.
"Devour the Void! Break!" Xiao Qingcheng twisted the Peach Wood Sword and swiftly pulled it out. Along with the sword came a dark shadow that surged forth.
"Pull Lingfeng away!" Xiao Qingcheng pointed her sword directly at that shadow.
At this moment, Lingfeng seemed like an empty sack, about to collapse onto the ground. I rushed forward and caught him, pulling him forcefully towards the door. Seeing Fu peeking in curiously, I called him over to help carry Lingfeng into the duty room.
I pinched Lingfeng's philtrum, but there was no reaction. I started to panic and slapped his face twice, and only then did Lingfeng slowly regain consciousness. I sighed in relief, greeted Fu, and ran back to the morgue.
When I returned to the morgue, Xiao Qingcheng had already dealt with the shadow. The Peach Wood Sword had returned to the size of a pen, and there was an additional corpse on the ground along with a Mask.
The corpse's face was bloodied and unrecognizable; it should be Sun Jianxin, while the Mask was that Snoopy Mask.
"Now it won't suddenly attack anyone again, right?" I pointed at the Snoopy Mask from a distance.
"Yeah, it won't. Its primordial spirit has been dispersed by me; this is just an ordinary Mask now!" Xiao Qingcheng tucked the Peach Wood Sword into her pocket, her brows furrowed tightly. "It's quite strange; it seems someone is secretly helping me!"
"Who is it?" I immediately looked around. Besides Xiao Qingcheng and me in the morgue, there was only Sun Jianxin's corpse on the ground. Could they be hiding in the morgue cabinet?
"I don't know; it's as if there's an invisible person who ambushed this shadow. With this Invisible Man's help, I could easily handle this Mask; otherwise, I would have had to use a lot of Kung Fu."
"Invisible Man? You can't see them at all?" I asked in surprise.
"Yeah, it's just a feeling I have," Xiao Qingcheng shook her head and then looked at me strangely. "Why haven't you picked up the Mask yet? You’re not afraid to pick up this Mask, are you?"
Faced with her disdainful attitude, I confidently replied, "Yes, I'm afraid! Please pick it up for me!"
...
Back in the duty room, Lingfeng had already regained consciousness and was drinking from a cup of water. It seemed Fu had already told him about being possessed; he looked fearful and quickly asked when he saw us enter, "How is it?"
Xiao Qingcheng raised the Mask in her hand: "It's taken care of!"
Lingfeng's expression changed slightly upon seeing the Mask: "So that's where the Mask is!"
"What does this mean? Is this Mask the one that was torn off Sun Jianxin's face? But wasn't that Mask taken by you guys?" I asked in astonishment.
Lingfeng nodded and said, "It shouldn't be wrong. After we brought back Sun Jianxin's body, the autopsy found nothing unusual. It was only when we were about to test this Mask that we discovered it had vanished. I never expected it to have such abilities."
After finishing, Lingfeng drank the water in his cup, stood up, and instructed us to keep it a secret. He then led me and Xiao Qingcheng to his office. The three of us sat around the desk, and Lingfeng frowned as he said, "Zheng Nan, what do you think? My mind is still a bit confused. I guess it's a side effect from being possessed earlier."
I pondered for a moment and replied, "I'm not good at analyzing this, but I can help you sort it out! Oops, I meant I can help you clarify things!"
As soon as I said that, Xiao Qingcheng shot me a glare, while Lingfeng chuckled lightly, making the atmosphere much more relaxed.
I took out my Cigarette Case, lit one and handed it to Lingfeng, then lit another for myself. I dumped the remaining cigarettes on the desk and picked one up: "The first question is, who tore off Sun Jianxin's face?"
After asking this question, I set the cigarette aside and picked up another one: "The second question is, why did Sun Jianxin's body in the morgue turn into Liu Xingyu's body?"
"The third question is, where did the Mask on Sun Jianxin's face disappear to? The fourth question is, is the Mask that possessed Lingfeng the same as the missing one? The fifth question goes back to Liu Xingyu: why did he commit suicide?"
I set aside five cigarettes and looked at Lingfeng and Xiao Qingcheng with satisfaction: "How about that? After sorting things out, all the questions came up!"
Lingfeng and Xiao Qingcheng looked at me as if I were foolish. Xiao Qingcheng casually pointed at one of the cigarettes: "Alright, let's start analyzing. Which number question was this again?"
I was left speechless and then angrily replied, "Why aren't you following the script? That's not the point; the point is that I've identified five questions now."
Lingfeng chuckled in disbelief. He pulled out paper and a pen from his desk drawer and wrote down my five questions simply. For example, for the first question, he wrote: 1. Who tore off Sun Jianxin's face...
The three of us fell silent for a moment. Both Lingfeng and I kept smoking at the table while the office filled with swirling smoke. Oddly enough, there seemed to be an invisible Glass Case around Xiao Qingcheng, as the smoke never encroached within a foot of her.
I don't know how long it took, but eventually, Xiao Qingcheng took Lingfeng's paper and pen and said, "All these questions can be solved with one sentence?"
Both Lingfeng and I looked at her with skepticism.
Xiao Qingcheng placed the Mask on the table and said, "This Mask is a ghost; it is manipulating everything. Let me hypothesize: first, Sun Jianxin's face was torn off by this Mask." With that, she circled the first question, indicating it had been resolved.
Lingfeng and I exchanged glances and nodded in unison, asking, "What next?"
"After arriving at the police station, for some unknown reason, this ghost reattached itself to Sun Jianxin's corpse and then altered Liu Xingyu's corpse to resemble its own. As for why it needed to switch bodies, my guess is that it didn't want Sun Jianxin's body to be damaged during the autopsy conducted by the police, or perhaps it wanted to inhabit a complete body," Xiao Qingcheng circled the second and third questions.
This reasoning did make some sense.
Xiao Qingcheng continued circling on the fourth question: "When Lingfeng opened the morgue drawer, this ghost hadn't completed all the steps of possession yet. In a moment of desperation, it attached itself to Lingfeng. So the fourth question is also resolved!"
I coughed lightly and said, "Wait a minute. Isn't this ghost already occupying Sun Jianxin's body? How can it then take over Lingfeng's body while still possessing Sun Jianxin's body? What does that mean?"
Xiao Qingcheng frowned and replied, "This is just a hypothesis; I don't know why it needed to kill Sun Jianxin before devouring his body. I also don't know how it could carry Sun Jianxin's body while invading Lingfeng's body. However, one thing I can confirm is that at that time, Sun Jianxin's corpse was indeed possessed by it and had almost completely taken over."
I couldn't help but shiver; damn it, a ghost had possessed him.
"As for the last question, could the Mask that possessed Sun Jianxin be one of the Six Masks that Liu Xingyu lost? If Liu Xingyu knew that losing these Six Masks was significant, then his suicide out of fear would make sense."
