Chapter 60 A Strange Painting
Xiao Yun got into An Yiran's car, and she took him to the Duan Family.
On the way, Xiao Yun's mind was racing. When Duan Qingxue heard An Yiran say that she wanted to invite him to the Duan Family, why did her expression suddenly become so haggard? What was the reason behind it?
To be honest, Xiao Yun didn't mind visiting the Duan Family because he was eager to meet the mysterious Duan Haoran. So many things were intertwined with him, for example:
Was he the mastermind who first plotted to seize Phoenix City?
Why did Duan Qingxue harbor such hatred towards him? What was the reason?
Moreover, Duan Haoran was a prominent figure in Galaxy City; why did he always avoid appearing in public? What hidden circumstances were there?
These questions had been entangled in Xiao Yun's mind for a long time. If he didn't resolve these issues, he would feel like there was a lump in his throat, unable to eat or sleep peacefully.
The car stopped in front of Duan Residence. An Yiran quickly got out, walked around the front of the car, opened the back door, and gestured for Xiao Yun to get out. "Mr. Xiao, please come with me!"
Standing at the entrance of Duan Residence, Xiao Yun looked ahead. It was a typical Hui-style building with blue bricks and dark tiles, horse-head walls, and flying eaves. A pair of stone lions squatted on either side of the heavy red doors, which stood wide open. Two expressionless security guards stood on either side of the entrance, tall and sturdy with dark faces and sharp eyes; they looked quite capable.
An Yiran led the way while Xiao Yun followed her through the gate.
Inside was a large courtyard featuring rockeries, fountains, pavilions, and everything one could imagine. Green trees surrounded the pond, where lotus flowers bloomed abundantly, almost resembling a small park.
At the back of the courtyard were several houses separated by small courtyards filled with various flowers and plants. Although it was the scorching summer season, stepping into these courtyards brought a sudden cool breeze that felt almost like entering spring.
However, as they walked further back, the trees grew denser. Underneath the thick canopy, it became difficult to see any light from above. A breeze blew through, not only providing shade but also sending a chill down one's spine.
Xiao Yun didn't expect that Duan Haoran lived in the last courtyard.
As An Yiran walked ahead, she introduced Xiao Yun to Duan Haoran. He had three brothers and was the second eldest; however, all his brothers had long since passed away. The houses in front were occupied by his nephews and nieces, but those individuals were all managing various companies and mostly lived outside. Therefore, those houses remained empty.
Xiao Yun shook his head secretly. Wealthy people are indeed different; he didn't know how many people were worrying about not having a place to live, while the Duan Family had so many houses sitting idle.
"I don't quite understand," Xiao Yun thought of Duan Qingyu from the Emperor Hotel and asked curiously, "This old gentleman has lived at home for years without stepping out. Is he really at ease letting his nephews and grandnephews manage those properties?"
An Yiran smiled and said, "Please rest assured, Mr. Xiao. Our Boss Duan has exceptional informants, and with his reputation still intact, none of the younger generation in the Duan Family would dare to do anything out of line behind his back!"
What do you mean by 'please rest assured'? Xiao Yun found her words quite amusing. I'm not one of your Duan Family members; I couldn't care less about your family affairs.
However, An Yiran's words made him shake his head in disbelief and sneer inwardly. If Duan Haoran could truly control the overall situation of the Duan Clan, how could someone like Duan Qingyu exist?
What puzzled Xiao Yun was that An Yiran spoke to him with such apparent respect, her tone pleasant; especially her pair of eyes, which looked at him with charm, her red lips slightly curled, sexy and alluring.
The little bell chuckled quietly, "Kid, are you interested in this woman? If so, just go for it!"
Xiao Yun felt dizzy. What was wrong with this Spirit Bird? Why did it always suggest he take action whenever a beautiful woman was involved?
"Little Bell, I, Xiao Yun, am a person of integrity and high moral character! Don't lead me astray!"
"Pfft, such pretentiousness!" The little bell ignored him afterward.
Upon entering the living room, An Yiran said to Xiao Yun and Wan'er, "Mr. Xiao, please wait here for a moment while I inform Boss Duan."
After An Yiran left, Xiao Yun took the opportunity to look around the living room. There were several ancient paintings hanging on the walls that looked quite old, and each painting was worth a fortune.
At that moment, one particular painting caught Xiao Yun's eye. It was titled "Yanshan Fengshui Map." Strangely enough, there was no signature at the bottom indicating who had created it.
The painting depicted overlapping peaks and flying springs, misty clouds with trees and bamboo—all rendered in exquisite detail. The scene of cold forests, water villages with bamboo houses, broken swallows soaring above herons amidst distant smoky mountains exuded a strange allure that seemed to invite one into the painting.
More importantly, the Spiritual Energy emanating from this painting could actually merge with the energy within him.
As he gazed at it, Xiao Yun became entranced; his mind felt foggy as if wrapped in layers of mist.
How could this be?
Xiao Yun rubbed his eyes and focused again. Oh no! The surroundings were completely shrouded in fog; everything was a blank white—he couldn't see the sky or the ground.
Turning around, he found himself suspended in an endless mist.
In this fog, his expression seemed to lose its clarity.
"Little Bell, do you know what's going on?" Xiao Yun asked anxiously, turning to the Spirit Bird for help.
Little Bell shook its head, puzzled. "I don't know either. I find it strange too; why is there mist everywhere?"
As soon as it finished speaking, a gust of wind blew through, dispersing the fog that surrounded him like layers of light gauze. Before him appeared green mountains and lush bamboo, with a small bridge over flowing water...
"Oh," Little Bell exclaimed in surprise, "it seems we've entered a painting..."
The words awakened the dreamer. Xiao Yun looked around and realized that the cascading peaks and flying springs depicted in the painting were exactly what lay before him.
What astonished him even more was that the area around the mountain was filled with abundant Spiritual Energy. Could there be some treasure hidden within this mountain?
Not far from him was a small bridge, with a stream babbling beneath it. Just as he was about to stroll over, he suddenly heard someone calling out, "Mr. Xiao, where... where are you?"
Xiao Yun turned towards the voice, his heart racing. He discovered that he truly was inside the painting; the person calling for him was An Yiran, but she couldn't see him within the artwork.
It dawned on him that only he could enter this painting. The Pinnacle of Elegance has been updated.
