Chapter 26: Familiarity
In the taxi, Duan Qingxue fell into deep thought.
Although she had been classmates with Fang Xiaolu for several years and their relationship was exceptionally close, almost without secrets, today at her house, it was the first time she learned that Fang Xiaolu's father was actually a member of the Ancient Martial Arts Sect.
Duan Qingxue knew nothing about the Ancient Martial Arts Sect; she only felt a storm of emotions rising within her after hearing Zhu Wanyu's account. She never expected that Fang Xiaolu's father had died due to the practice of Ancient Martial Arts.
It seemed that she still knew too little about this world.
Duan Qingxue smiled at Xiao Yun and said, "Xiao Yun, I didn't expect you to be so generous, offering eighty thousand right off the bat!"
Xiao Yun replied with a smile, "Sister Qingxue, there are some things you don't understand yet. Getting something like this is a huge profit for me!"
"Oh, can you tell me what these two items are actually useful for?" Duan Qingxue asked.
Xiao Yun winked at her and whispered, "I'll tell you when I have time another day!"
Seeing his mysterious demeanor, Duan Qingxue understood that he was constrained by being a taxi driver and there were some things he couldn't discuss in front of others.
A wave of warmth surged in her heart; from his tone, it was clear he regarded her as someone very close to him.
Since it was inconvenient for him to speak, she decided not to ask any further questions.
The taxi first took Duan Qingxue to her residence before heading to the door of the Fragrant Flower Shop.
Xiao Yun entered the room and immediately took out the brocade box from his bag, opening it eagerly. He wanted to test the energy of the Storage Ring first.
He put the ring on the middle finger of his left hand and then tossed the Writing Tools and Miniature Oven from his bag into the ring. To his surprise, he found that the space inside was quite large; even if he stored two or three meals' worth of items, it wouldn't be a problem.
This made Xiao Yun feel a mix of excitement and joy. He thought to himself that in the future, if he wanted to bring some items when going out, he wouldn't need to carry a bag at all; this was incredibly convenient.
Xiao Yun then took out the Spirit Awareness Pill and unhesitatingly placed it in his mouth. The pill melted instantly upon entry, and immediately, a surge of energy rose from his Dantian, rolling like a heat wave, surging throughout his body and impacting his internal organs and various Meridians.
He dared not be negligent and quickly sat cross-legged, closed his eyes, regulated his breath, and slowly refined the effects of the Spirit Awareness Pill, entering a state of cultivation.
According to what he had seen in the copy of The Thirty-Six Techniques of Bone Painting during his cultivation, the Old Man's seven-colored Heart Pearl already included the function of Spiritual Sense. However, this could only gradually manifest through continuous cultivation in the future. As for when Spiritual Sense would reveal itself, it remained an unknown for him.
Moreover, just like practitioners of Ancient Martial Arts, he needed other things to assist him as well. Now that Xiao Yun had this Spirit Awareness Pill, it was like taking a shortcut; he could successfully activate the Spiritual Sense function without taking so many detours. More importantly, this Spirit Awareness Pill could also effectively enhance his other energies.
Xiao Yun soon completed a full cycle of True Qi circulation and twelve minor cycles before gently exhaling and opening his eyes.
However, when he looked into the distance, he couldn't suppress the wild beating of his heart; he was almost excited enough to jump up. This Spirit Awareness Pill was truly amazing.
Xiao Yun discovered that his gaze penetrated through the walls of the flower shop and surprisingly saw things several miles away. Although it was nearly ten o'clock at night, there were still crowds on the street with people coming and going. He saw a young woman holding a small child walking out of a large shopping mall; he saw a couple holding hands entering a hotel, presumably to book a room; then he saw—uh, what was going on here?
He noticed in a secluded area that several rough-looking young men were forcing a small car into an alley. One of them pulled out a small knife while opening the car door and dragged out a middle-aged woman from inside…
That guy waved the knife in his hand while saying something to the middle-aged woman. As for what exactly was being said, Xiao Yun couldn't hear it.
A robbery?
Xiao Yun estimated that the small alley was on the north side of Top Scholar Road, not too far from the Fragrant Flower Shop at the Jincheng South Road Intersection. As long as she took a shortcut, she could get there quickly...
In the small alley on the north side of Top Scholar Road, a middle-aged woman was holding a large bag with both hands, her face filled with terror as she stared at several young men closing in on her. "What... what do you want?" she asked.
The young man holding a knife had a diagonal scar on his left cheek. The others around him called him Scarface, indicating he was the leader among them.
Scarface wore a fierce expression and sneered, "We're a bit short on cash lately. How much money do you have? Hand it all over. Also, that gold necklace around your neck must be worth something; take it off and give it to me!"
"I'll give... I'll give you everything..." The middle-aged woman quickly took off the gold necklace from her neck and threw it, along with her money and other valuables, at Scarface's feet.
Scarface added, "Now hand over that bag you're holding!"
The middle-aged woman resolutely replied, "No! This... this bag contains gifts I bought for my son. I'm going to see him tomorrow; I can't give you these things..."
"Damn it, how dare you refuse!" A monkey-like man jumped up beside her and slapped the middle-aged woman while reaching for the bag.
However, the middle-aged woman clung tightly to the bag, pleading desperately, "Please don't take my bag! Have some compassion for a mother’s heart. I would rather die than let you take away the gifts I bought for my son!"
As she spoke, the middle-aged woman suddenly knelt on the ground, tears streaming down her face as she begged them.
She was wearing a qipao, with her dark hair styled up at the back of her head. Although her hair appeared somewhat disheveled and her face showed fear, it couldn't hide her beautiful features and charming demeanor.
Scarface waved his knife and looked at the woman with a strange gaze that turned lewd. He laughed, "Hehe, although you're a bit older now, you still have charm. Not bad at all. Can you take off your clothes for me to enjoy?" As he spoke, he gulped several times.
Several people nearby burst into unrestrained laughter.
"Beasts, are you not all born of a mother?" Suddenly, a cold voice rang out from the side.
The group turned to look, and they were surprised to see a young man had appeared behind them without making a sound, like a leaf drifting down from the wind that suddenly landed here.
This young man was none other than Xiao Yun.
When he arrived, he overheard the middle-aged woman pleading desperately to those people, which made his heart ache. He had never seen what his own mother looked like growing up, and the woman's words struck a chord deep within him...
Scarface's words instantly ignited his fury.
Before Scarface could react, Xiao Yun charged forward and slapped him hard. The force of the slap sent Scarface flying into the air, flipping over before crashing to the ground. With a loud crack, it sounded as if his skull had shattered, and he fell unconscious on the spot.
The expressions of the other people were one of shock; they had never seen such a ruthless individual before—one slap was enough to leave someone lying on the ground unable to speak.
"W-What are you?" they stammered in fear as they stepped back.
Xiao Yun glared at Monkey and beckoned with his index finger, "Come here!"
Monkey nervously shuffled in front of him. "Big brother, you..."
Xiao Yun coldly asked, "Which hand did you use to hit this lady?"
The monkey instinctively glanced at its right hand, trembling and too afraid to make a sound.
Xiao Yun grabbed his right hand and gently squeezed it. "Ah—" With a scream, the hand was crushed.
The hearts of the nearby onlookers sank, cold sweat breaking out on their backs. They regretted not consulting a fortune teller before this robbery; today seemed like an inauspicious day for committing evil deeds.
Xiao Yun maintained a stern expression and ignored them. He walked over and suddenly kicked several of them to the ground, leaving them bleeding from their mouths and noses, only able to groan.
He bent down to pick up the middle-aged woman's gold necklace, along with some money and other items, handing them back to her with a smile. "It's all right now, you can go!"
The middle-aged woman was still in shock, wiping her tears as she repeatedly said, "Thank you, young brother. Thank you for saving me. Oh, what is your name? Where do you live? I must come to thank you properly another day!"
"No need!" Xiao Yun replied lightly, a faint smile on his face.
"Young brother..." The middle-aged woman didn't know how to express her gratitude.
Xiao Yun smiled again. "Don't say anything more. Just take care of the gift you bought for your son and head home!"
He escorted the middle-aged woman to her car and then turned to leave.
However, after taking a few steps, he suddenly stopped, feeling something was off. Why did that woman look so familiar? It was as if he had seen her in a dream before.
Who was she? Xiao Yun turned back to look, only to find the woman leaning against the car, gazing at him with a dazed expression...
