Mengxi felt a lump in his throat, and his eyes stung.
He took a deep breath and hoarsely asked, "Where is she?"
Cheng Sheng looked at him coldly, "What do you want?"
Mengxi shouted angrily, "Where is she?"
Cheng Sheng closed his eyes and replied in a deep voice, "I don't know."
Mengxi gritted his teeth and said, "How could she have a miscarriage?"
Cheng Sheng looked at him and explained, "Her health was poor; she couldn't eat anything, and the child was malnourished, so she miscarried."
Mengxi clenched his hands into fists at his sides.
He took a deep breath and looked at Cheng Sheng, "I want to see her."
Cheng Sheng replied coldly, "She won't see you."
Mengxi said firmly, "I must see her."
Cheng Sheng looked at him, "What exactly do you want?"
Mengxi's eyes turned red, "I want to see her!"
Cheng Sheng closed his eyes again, "I told you, I don't know where she is. She left without telling me where she was going; I have no idea where she is."
Mengxi turned and walked away.
He had to find Xie Yan.
Mengxi arrived in Philadelphia.
He found out Cheng Sheng's address.
He rushed over as heavy rain poured down.
The rain was torrential.
Mengxi got out of the car and strode forward.
The front door was tightly shut.
He knocked hard on the door, but no one answered.
The rain fell heavily, drenching him completely.
Ignoring everything, he continued to knock on the door.
Finally, the door opened.
Cheng Sheng stood at the entrance, looking at him indifferently.
Mengxi's breath caught in his throat.
He looked inside but did not see Xie Yan.
Cheng Sheng said coldly, "What are you going crazy about?"
Mengxi opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but he didn't know what to say.
Cheng Sheng looked at him and asked, "What are you here for?"
Mengxi's voice trembled, "Is she... not here?"
Cheng Sheng replied coldly, "She left."
Mengxi was taken aback, "Where did she go?"
Cheng Sheng looked at him and said, "I don't know."
Mengxi's gaze darkened, "How could you not know?"
Cheng Sheng looked at him and explained, "She didn't want me to know, so she didn't tell me."
Mengxi's breath hitched.
He stared blankly at Cheng Sheng, as if frozen in place.
Cheng Sheng said to him, "You should go back. Mengxi doesn't know where she is; perhaps she will never see you again in this lifetime."
Mengxi opened his mouth again, wanting to say something but found himself unable to speak.
He couldn't understand why Xie Yan had left without a word.
Even Cheng Sheng hadn't told him.
Where had she gone?
Why was she so heartless?
Mengxi returned to the hotel and fell seriously ill.
He had a high fever that wouldn't subside, lying in bed in a daze, constantly dreaming.
In his dreams, it was all Xie Yan.
She cried in his arms while he urged her not to cry.
She smiled and told him that she loved him.
She said she was willing to go with him.
She said she wanted nothing but him.
She said that as long as he wanted her, she would never leave.
Mengxi suddenly woke up.
He gasped for air, looking at the dark hospital room as his gaze gradually deepened.
He remembered.
He remembered everything. Three years ago, Xie Yan had asked him if he wanted to take her away. But he told her, "I can't give you anything." He recalled how heartbroken Xie Yan had been. She was very sad, yet she smiled and said, "It's okay, I'll wait for you." She had also said, "I won't leave. As long as you come to find me, I will go with you."
Mengxi closed his eyes, tears streaming down his cheeks. He had destroyed their relationship with his own hands. It was he who ruined their love. It was he who didn't want Xie Yan. Now, Xie Yan didn't want him anymore. Yet he was going crazy thinking about her. How ridiculous.
Mengxi cried out in pain. He missed Xie Yan. He really wanted her. He wanted to see her. He wanted to hold her. He wanted to kiss her. He wanted to be with her in bed. He wanted her. He wanted her!
Mengxi couldn't find Xie Yan. He couldn't locate her anymore. She had truly vanished. She would never come back.
Three years later. Cheng Sheng's birthday. Mengxi went to celebrate his birthday. The door to the private room opened, and everyone cheered.
Mengxi raised his gaze, landing on Xie Yan's face, pausing slightly.
Xie Yan also saw him.
Her expression was calm, a smile gracing her lips.
Mengxi looked at her, his throat tightening.
She had lost weight and changed.
She was no longer that timid little girl.
She had become mature and charming.
She had become someone else's beloved.
Mengxi lowered his eyelids, hiding the pain in his eyes.
Cheng Sheng walked over and handed him a glass of wine, saying, "Congratulations."
Mengxi took the wine and downed it in one gulp.
Cheng Sheng glanced at him but said nothing.
Mengxi continued to drink, one glass after another.
He became completely drunk.
He could hear Xie Yan's voice in his ears.
She cried, begging him not to leave.
She laughed as she threw herself into his arms.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and sweetly asked him, " Xi, do you really like me?"
Mengxi closed his eyes, tears sliding down the corners of his eyes.
He understood now.
He understood it all.
He had destroyed a love with his own hands.
Now, he could never take it back.
He deserved it.
He truly deserved it.
