Returning home, Andy had not yet arrived. The house felt empty. She found an old travel suitcase and her passport. Feeling a bit hungry, she stepped out of the bedroom, intending to head to the kitchen on the first floor for something to eat. However, her gaze caught the locked attic door, and her footsteps hesitated. For some reason, she found herself fixated on it, unable to move.
The heavy lock and door seemed to hold an unspeakable secret.
What could it be? She had never seen Andy open this door, and curiosity inexplicably urged Anna to step closer.
"What are you doing?"
Andy’s voice suddenly came from behind her. Startled, Anna turned around quickly, looking at him in confusion.
"Nothing... nothing," Anna shook her head.
She expected Andy to be angry, but instead, he simply smiled calmly and said, "It's just some junk in there; there's no need to be curious."
"Oh, I was just... when did you get back?" Anna stammered.
Andy chuckled lightly and turned to go downstairs. "I just got back; you were so focused that you didn't see me."
Anna followed him down, feeling a lingering awkwardness in the air.
"Andy, I'm going to Thailand in a couple of days," Anna said.
"Why are you going there? Are you going on vacation with Brother Kwangsoo?" Andy joked.
"What nonsense are you talking about?! We're going to record a show."
"You two have been together day and night during this time, and you've known each other since childhood. Haven't you sparked anything?" Anna said with a mischievous smile.
"Hey, what childhood friends? It's been so many years since we last met. Besides, you know how he is; he lights up at the sight of any woman with a bit of charm."
Andy thought for a moment and said, "That's true. But that was when we were kids; he should have changed a bit by now."
"Yeah, his change now is that he likes IU today and Girls' Generation tomorrow. I've watched him grow up since we were little! How could I not know what he's like?" Anna said.
Andy chuckled and said, "Miss Anna, please don't talk as if you're Brother Kwangsoo's mother."
Anna couldn't argue back with Andy and fell silent.
"By the way, how long are you going for?" Andy asked.
"Thailand, China, Japan—about ten days or so."
"Is there anything you need? I can have someone buy it for you," Andy offered.
"No need," Anna replied, still not used to having others do everything for her. "I'll buy what I need myself."
"Okay." Saying this, he walked into his study, took out a watch, and handed it to Anna.
"A watch? What do you want me to do with this? A farewell gift for me?" Anna was puzzled.
"When you're about to die, just pull out the blue button that adjusts the minutes, and that's it," Andy said.
Anna understood why Andy was doing this. After the last incident, no one wanted it to happen again, but Andy never brought it up. Silently, Anna put the watch on her wrist, smiled slightly, and said, "Got it."
What a complete assurance this was, more solid than any words of advice. Her sister had truly been incompetent; from childhood to now, it had always been Andy protecting her. Suddenly, she realized why, even though they hadn't been together for two years, Andy always seemed to know what she was doing. They lacked parental love, but God had given Anna Andy, who was more precious than anyone else.
"What are you doing? Lost in thought?" Andy teased as he looked at the dazed Anna.
"Nothing," Anna replied with a smile. "If I fall into the sea, will this watch be able to find me?" She shook her wrist.
"Yeah," Andy answered helplessly. "I guarantee that even if you're swallowed by a shark, at least I can collect your remains for a funeral or something."
"Hey, why are you cursing your sister like that!"
