Li Li glared at the bed, then at Liu Wenyi. Liu Wenyi instinctively curled her toes under the blanket, thinking about how she would escape if he charged at her. After a while, Li Li mumbled something and walked over to the blanket on the floor, lying down beside it and curling up with it.
Liu Wenyi let out a long sigh of relief, took off her high heels, and crawled into bed. She reached out to close the door but hesitated when she touched the switch, deciding against it. This place made her feel so unsafe that she didn't even take off her clothes; she lay down fully dressed, wrapping herself tightly in the blanket and pressing its edges beneath her. This way, if Li Li had any ill intentions after she fell asleep, he would have to tear the blanket to get to her, and she would notice.
Li Cheng was sleeping in the west room, which gave her some sense of security. She snuggled deeper into the blankets, turned her head away, and gradually drifted off to sleep.
She didn't know what time it was when Liu Wenyi felt an unbearable heat all over her body and found it hard to breathe. Uncomfortable, she tried to move but realized she couldn't; her hands and feet were restrained. Her neck felt hot, and her body was heavy.
Suddenly jolted awake, she opened her eyes to see a white-painted ceiling above her. As her gaze shifted downward, she found a man looming over her. He was breathing heavily in her ear, and the blanket had been pushed aside. She clearly saw that her top had been stripped away, exposing herself completely; her fitted skirt had been lifted to her hips, leaving only a thin line of underwear as protection. The man's bare legs were wedged between hers as he forcefully tried to pry them apart.
"Ah—" Liu Wenyi screamed in terror.
The man lost in lust suddenly snapped back to reality, shuddering violently as he straightened up. An aged face came into view—Li Weimin! Li Cheng's father!
Before she could scream again, Li Weimin covered her mouth and nose. At that moment, Liu Wenyi heard laughter; turning her head to the right, she saw Li Li sitting cross-legged on the pile of blankets like a dumpling, clapping his hands and making joyful sounds as if watching a show.
"Help... help me..."
Li Li tilted his head, staring blankly at Liu Wenyi's predicament. Suddenly, he jumped up and called out in a childish voice to the flustered Li Weimin, "Daddy! Daddy!"
Seeing him react made Liu Wenyi fight back even harder in desperation.
"Daddy! Daddy!" Li Li stomped his feet anxiously but didn't dare move closer.
Li Weimin was irritated by his calls and snapped back angrily, "Shut up!"
At once, Li Li fell silent as if given a command; he pressed his lips tightly together and even crossed his hands over his mouth as he timidly backed away until he exited the room.
Liu Wenyi felt hopeless.
Outside, Li Li bounced around in the yard for a moment before stopping abruptly. He blinked his bright eyes and puffed out his cheeks as if deep in thought. Then he jumped into the main hall; on the left was the East Room where Wang Surong and Li Weimin stayed, and on the right was the west room where Li Cheng slept. He stood in the middle of the hall, neither advancing nor retreating, shouting loudly towards the East Room, "Mommy! Mommy! Daddy is fighting with his wife! Mommy! The wife is crying! They're fighting! Mommy..."
Wang Surong quickly opened the door and stepped out. She was dressed neatly with hair cascading like dry leaves behind her. Her eyes sparkled as she approached the dazed Li Li and asked softly, "What happened?"
Li Li pointed outside. "Daddy is fighting with his wife! I'm scared! Mommy hurry!"
Wang Surong nodded and hurried past him to knock heavily on the door of the west room. "Chengzi! Wake up! Something's happening in your brother's room!"
"What happened now? Let me dad check," came Li Cheng's muffled voice from inside.
"It's your dad who's causing trouble! You need to see what's going on! Your dad is scaring Wenyi; put on some clothes and come look."
"Alright, I'm coming." There was a sound of someone getting out of bed.
Before long, Li Cheng emerged wearing only a short-sleeved shirt on top and loose boxers below, rubbing his hair sleepily as he asked, "What exactly is going on?"
"You go take a look," Wang Surong said as she pulled him by the sleeve of his arm, leading him outside.
Li Li quietly followed behind them, walking towards his low room. Just before stepping over the threshold, he heard Li Cheng yelling from inside, "Dad! What are you doing!"
Li Li seemed startled by Li Cheng's sudden loud voice, shivering as he hid behind the door and stretched his neck to peek at the bed.
Li Weimin was fumbling to put on his clothes, jumping out of bed in a panic. Liu Wenyi, after being rescued, curled up in the blanket, staring wide-eyed at Li Cheng, her teeth biting down on her lower lip, feeling both angry and somewhat wronged.
"Dad, you really..." Li Cheng sent a comforting glance to Liu Wenyi and then looked at Li Weimin with a complicated expression. "What are you doing in the middle of the night?"
Li Weimin, embarrassed, raised his head and caught sight of Wang Surong. Angrily jumping up high, he shouted, "What are you looking at, old woman? Go back!"
Wang Surong flinched, shrinking her head down and timidly turning to walk outside. As she passed by Li Li, she tugged at his clothing corner, but he shook her off and stood still like a child.
Wang Surong glanced at him, lowered her eyelids, and silently walked toward the main room.
Inside the room, Li Weimin lost face and stubbornly argued, "What a good daughter-in-law! That fool Ali doesn't know how to play; what's wrong with me helping him out? Who does it doesn't matter; why be so pretentious?" He ended with a glare at Liu Wenyi.
Liu Wenyi buried herself deeper into the blanket as if twitching.
"Dad! You can't do that! She's your daughter-in-law; no matter what..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Liu Wenyi interrupted angrily, "Li Cheng, who are you protecting at this time!"
Li Cheng hesitated for a moment. Under Liu Wenyi's piercing gaze urging him on, he sighed and said, "Dad, she's my girlfriend."
Li Weimin was taken aback. "What? What girlfriend? You're already married; where did this girlfriend come from?"
"Dad, sit down first," Li Cheng pulled out a chair and placed it under Li Weimin. After helping him sit down and glancing at Liu Wenyi, he slowly said, "Dad, do you remember when I was in my senior year of high school and our homeroom teacher called you to say I was dating early? You even hit me for that; remember? Wenyi is that girl. We were together for more than a year in high school. It was because you interfered that we broke up; otherwise we would have been married for many years by now."
Li Weimin squinted his eyes and recalled for a long time. "Oh—I remember now; that girl is her! So she's not that fool's elementary school classmate?"
"Not at all. A while ago I happened to run into Wenyi at a party. The moment I saw her, I realized I hadn't forgotten her all these years. So we quickly got back together; now she's my girlfriend. Dad, you can't mess this up."
"What about Sun Bai? Are you getting a divorce?"
Who said anything about divorce? Li Cheng instinctively wanted to say that but with Liu Wenyi present, he irritably waved his hand. "Dad, just don't worry about this; I have my own plans. Just don't touch her again or mention this to Sun Bai, okay?"
Hey, not bad! My son has two girls taking care of him; Li Weimin felt quite proud and nodded appreciatively. "Alright, I'll keep it a secret for you."
"Then you..."
