Chapter Four Hundred and One:
A thunderous roar suddenly erupted in the air.
With a loud crack, the Three-Headed Bone Dragon and the Shadowy Figure above it were instantly swatted away like flies.
A massive cloud of black smoke rolled back along with them.
The Three-Headed Bone Dragon crashed violently against the wall of the Dark Gorge, and the sound of shattering bones echoed as fragments slid down the cliff.
However, the figure shrouded in darkness floated beside the wall like a ghost, wisps of black smoke continuously swirling around it.
Its expression was unusually dazed as it stared at the enormous hand in the sky.
The Fair Hand nearly filled the entire sky, with the patterns on its palm clearly visible.
"What is this thing??"
In its soul's eye, that hand seemed to burn with a scorching Green Flame, a manifestation of the qualitative change brought about by a massive soul.
Suddenly, it seemed to recall something, and its dazed expression transformed into one of fervor.
"A soul this powerful... If I obtain this soul, then the entire world—no! Not just this world, but other worlds as well—will belong to me!! I will be the sovereign of countless worlds, the master of death!!!"
He controlled his body to slowly fly away from the mountain wall, extending his trembling, withered fingers that shook with excitement, pointing at the enormous hand in the sky that could block out the sun.
"My servants!! Cut that hand off for me!!!"
Upon receiving his command, numerous Bone Dragons that had been entangled with Gorge suddenly took to the air.
These high-level Undead, devoid of brains and only knowing to follow orders, flew toward the giant hand as if committing suicide.
Without the support of the Bone Dragons, the Human Warriors in Gorge harvested these fragile skeletons at a frenzied pace.
Standing still, Freya watched the spectacular sight of the large number of Bone Dragons taking flight with an indifferent expression. She slightly turned her Staff, and her entire body began to transform into specks of white light, flying toward the palm.
Amidst the dense swarm of white flying Undead, she faintly saw a Shadowy Figure mixed among them.
Freya coldly gazed at the figure. "You don't Understand at all; stop this."
"Is that so?!" The figure clearly heard Freya's whisper. He suddenly threw back his hood, revealing a human skull seemingly engulfed in blue flames, speaking in a frenzied tone. "I may not know the gap between us right now. But! After I feast on this delicious meal!! I will know!! Hahaha."
Regarding this already desperate laughter, Freya shook her head.
"Has the power of death decayed your mind to this extent, ignorant one?"
Meanwhile, high above in the sky, the enormous hand seemed to sense something and gently closed its open fingers. As it revealed its index finger, a strand of green light slowly gathered at its tip.
'Puff!!'
Without any warning, a pillar of green light resembling a Tower shot down from between its fingers, instantly enveloping countless Bone Dragons.
Immediately, large amounts of white bones disintegrated in mid-air. The black smoke behind them was also dispersed.
Immediately, a beam of light projected onto the vast Skeleton Bone Sea.
"Wow—"
Countless blue flames of souls rose up and then vanished completely.
In the Dark Gorge, the cold air suddenly froze, and then countless green plants rapidly grew in the frozen soil.
Tall trees sprang up from the ground, and clusters of tender flowers and grasses emerged from the land filled with bones.
For a moment, all the living people looked at this phenomenon with a dazed expression.
"This... this is life."
"Clang."
A warrior suddenly dropped his longsword, knelt on the ground, and held a yellow flower in his hands, tears streaming down his face.
"We actually won?"
"The Holy War that lasted for two hundred years has finally come to an end??"
The first warrior who charged to the front stared blankly at the giant hand in the sky and the Green Pillar of Light that continued to shine at its fingertips.
"This is the aura of The Great Sage. Could it be that there really are gods in this world? The Great Sage?"
Just as humanity celebrated their victory in battle, a large cloud of black mist suddenly erupted from within the beam of light.
A fierce skull head menacingly emerged from the light.
"Ha ha ha, power!! This is power!! The essence of life!!"
The skeleton slightly opened its withered hands, as if to embrace the entire beam of light in its arms. The ethereal blue flame of the soul within its skull had unknowingly turned purple, seemingly absorbing the power of the light beam continuously.
"I can feel it, my power is increasing!! Oh, yes!! Death and life are originally one entity!!"
Suddenly, two bursts of Purple Flame shot out from its dark eye sockets, fixating on the point of White Light beside it, Freya.
"You foolishly gave up the chance to merge with me; I am so disappointed in you, Freya!! Although I don't know how you summoned this Giant Hand, congratulations! You will witness my rebirth!! I am a god!!"
Hiss.
The Purple Flame enveloped its entire body with a whoosh, and strands of bloody flesh began to emerge from the gaps in its bones, followed by muscle patterns. Blood vessels rapidly sprouted, and then flesh, organs, and hair were all birthed one by one.
Before long, a man with jet-black hair and a handsome face appeared in Freya's line of sight.
"This is the feeling of flesh and blood," the man marveled at his entire body, tears of joy filling his face. "I am alive again! Two thousand three hundred fifty-four years and one hundred twenty-three days! I—"
Ignoring the newly formed flesh-and-blood skeleton's incessant rambling, Freya's previously indifferent expression suddenly became animated. She raised an eyebrow.
"Oh? You've actually learned energy transformation? That's quite impressive for this Lower World. But how about this?"
As she murmured softly, the Giant Hand that had been projecting the Green Pillar of Light paused slightly, and then the green beam abruptly transformed into crimson.
The breath of life vanished, replaced by The Power of Chaos and Destruction, instantly spreading across the entire sky.
Boom!!!
The man who had just been reveling in the joy of rebirth suddenly ignited in a blaze of blood-red flames.
The Crimson Flame seemed to carry an exceptionally strong corrosive contamination characteristic. His fair skin began to be covered in layers of black scales, and his limbs grew thick and large. The nails on his palms started to grow wildly.
"No! What's happening!?" As he looked at the changes in his body, he opened his mouth to speak, only to spew forth flames with a strong sulfuric smell. "My power!! Why is my power weakening! Damn it! What have you done!?"
He opened the newly formed claws, his face filled with disbelief. But Freya showed a slight smile in response.
"This is a little gift I just brought from the Abyss World. You wouldn't understand; anyway, I don't know you."
Seeing the smile on Freya's face, the figure was momentarily taken aback, then spoke with a terrified expression.
"You are not Freya! The Freya I know has never smiled! Who are you?!"
"Hmm?" Seemingly caught off guard by this reaction, Freya instinctively touched the Green Mark on her forehead. Realizing something, she said, "Is it because this body feels a bit strange due to the resonance with the power of the Tree of Life?"
After a pause, she suddenly thrust her hand toward her forehead.
'Sizzle!'
Her Fair Hand immediately sank into her brain, her palm moving as if searching for something. After a while, a green key-shaped object was pulled out from her forehead.
The key was engraved with intricate patterns, and at its end was a Woman's Face with closed eyes.
As she extracted the key from her head, the green leaf mark on Freya's forehead also dissipated.
Sensing the change in the environment, the Woman's Face at the end of the key suddenly displayed a look of pain, and its closed eyes slightly opened.
"What is this place? Who am I? Ah! It hurts!"
Looking at the key that had been pulled from her head, Freya recalled the memories of her avatar and suddenly understood.
"This world actually had gods? It's truly unbelievable. However, the gods of the Lower World still haven't touched the deeper aspects of the World Rule. In terms of a wizard's power, they are at most at the level of a Fourth-Level Dawn Wizard. Alright, I'll take this key. What about you, undead being that 'governs death' in this world?"
Freya looked at the figure that had been completely demonized by the power of the Abyss.
Through her memories, she understood that this person seemed to have once belonged to this world as a 'god.' However, due to the unexpected fall of the Goddess of Life, he had thrown the originally balanced world into chaos.
And because of the low-level nature of this world, the weak World Power was unable to quickly give birth to a new Goddess of Life to restore balance. Instead, it was indirectly utilized by Freya, who possessed a powerful presence and also bore the aura of the Tree of Life, becoming half a Goddess of Life.
After some thought, Freya returned the key to her waist and calmly said, "Since I have taken the Key of Life from this world, according to the wizard's rule of Equivalent Exchange, you shall quietly return to your 'death.'"
"Wizards?"
Before the figure could react to this term, his entire demonic body began to rapidly disintegrate.
The extraction of World Power caused his flesh and blood to instantly wither. The sulfuric lava buried within him quickly turned the remaining bones and flesh into charred remains.
Freya took one last look at what had become a forest in the Dark Gorge, without any lingering feelings, and transformed into countless white lights that merged into the Giant Hand.
...
Within the Silver Temporal Portal.
Freya withdrew her hand from the Light Blue World Rift.
At her fingertips was an additional green key. The woman at the end of the key seemed to have completely frozen due to being detached from the world, as if she had entirely died.
She gently caressed the key, feeling the life force contained within it.
"Although it is similar to the Tree of Life, it is merely a resemblance; the two are fundamentally different substances. The mistakes made by the Lower World have inadvertently benefited me."
Even though this key seemed to have completely lost its function, with Freya's deepening understanding of World Rule, she would always find a way to reactivate it.
After all, simply absorbing the vast energy within was too wasteful compared to creating Magic Weapons or conducting other life-related experiments.
At this point, after absorbing the two avatars, Freya felt an overwhelming surge of power, and her Second Form increasingly resembled a true King Cobra.
Moreover, Freya had a peculiar feeling that the King Cobra she ultimately became might differ significantly from any King Cobra that had appeared in history.
In her inherited memories, no King Cobra had traveled the same path as she did.
The evolution of a King Cobra is a choice made by World Power; it is a natural phenomenon. Each King Cobra undergoes a long growth period from birth to evolution until reaching its final form.
Even the inheritors among Ancient Wizards could only shorten this time frame slightly.
Freya, however, managed to accelerate this slow process through various methods and even the powers of other worlds in less than a century, which was truly unprecedented.
For instance, her act of entering the Time-Space Portal.
The chaotic forces of time and space tearing at each other and the mixed World Power within the portal could overwhelm even equally powerful wizards.
Traveling through time and space without taking various precautions and having extensive temporal positioning is simply impossible.
A moment's inattention could lead one to be swept into the chaotic currents of time and space, landing fortuitously in an unknown world or, unfortunately, being devoured by the Higher World to become the most primitive nutrients for that world.
Freya vaguely sensed that her unique situation might be closely related to the Purple Big Eye she encountered back at the World Tower.
The World Tower, which could safely lead to countless worlds, was merely a legend in the current history of wizards. Why did it happen to be encountered by her?
Freya did not know; perhaps it was related to her identity as a traveler, or maybe it was just luck.
However, these questions, like tangled balls of yarn, would eventually be answered as her strength grew and she drew closer to the truth.
"After all, everything has a reason. There is no question without an answer, unless the question posed by the parties involved is completely illogical."
Freya's gaze swept over the floating silver Thin Lines, where countless lights, both bright and dim, traversed through these Thin Lines, seemingly lost in an unknown space.
It resembled the infinite starry sky she had once seen on Earth.
"Rise up; the wizards can already invade across worlds, but why have they not yet come into contact with knowledge about planets?"
This question also had no answer.
Even though Freya had once flown to the highest point in Crimson Forest Trace and looked down upon the semi-circular land, she could not completely break free from the constraints of the atmosphere due to certain reasons. (To be continued.)
