Chapter 367:
The giant's head, covered in spikes, slightly turned.
At this moment, Freya noticed that the giant's strange eyes were obscured by a layer of black ash-colored rag, seemingly lacking vision.
"Huh."
It slightly opened its mouth, which was unshielded by lips, and a stream of yellow air flowed out from the interlocking fangs.
A terrifying and powerful wave spread from its body, pressing down on Freya as if it were a tangible force.
"This kind of aura..." Freya's expression suddenly changed. She pushed off the ground with force, her body retreating close to the floor.
'Swoosh!' 'Bang!!'
A massive cleaver came crashing down from above, striking the ground where she had just stood.
The cleaver sank deeply into the floor, leaving a deep gash behind.
The stone slab overhead trembled from the impact, causing fine white dust to fall. The entire hall seemed to shake.
Freya, having retreated to a safe distance, found her forehead unexpectedly covered in cold sweat.
"What terrifying power."
She estimated that even all her defensive measures would probably not withstand much of this force.
Freya quickly glanced at the remaining pillars. One of the translucent pillars seemed to have been shaken by the residual force of the earlier attack, starting to shed transparent fragments.
A chilling and terrifying aura slowly seeped out from the gaps in the pillar.
"Swish!"
The machete sliced through the air, splitting the space in two, and swiftly cut towards her again.
"Do you think I have no ability to fight back!?"
With a determined heart, Freya spread her arms and simply triggered a spell, causing a Golden Eyeball-shaped rune to appear directly in front of her.
As soon as the eyeball emerged, its pupil shot out a Blazing White beam of light.
"Boom!!"
Suddenly, a violent shockwave erupted between the two.
Amidst the intense gust of wind, Freya's face turned pale, but she quickly reached out to grasp the Golden Runes and pointed fiercely in the direction of the explosion.
A more concentrated beam of light shot out immediately.
"Zing!"
The beam moved horizontally, followed by a 'thud' sound as if something had fallen to the ground.
Freya's lips slightly bled as she squinted her eyes towards the smoke-filled area.
That terrifying giant was cut in half at the waist by Freya's powerful attack, despite exhausting its mental energy and depleting the fundamental Rune Array.
Lowering her head to wipe away the blood at the corner of her mouth, Freya looked at the giant with a lingering sense of fear.
"How could I overdraw the Rune Array even if you are a Dawn Level being? This should..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Freya suddenly froze.
The ground, which had been cut into two segments, began to emit a Crimson mist, and within seconds, each segment grew back its missing body parts.
Seeing this, Freya immediately turned to run.
However, just as she was about to escape through the exit, she realized that the original Face relief door had vanished.
Only a smooth stone wall remained.
"Damn it!"
She cursed under her breath when two powerful gusts of wind and a dangerous aura rushed toward her from behind.
There was no time to dodge; Freya's emerald green eyes suddenly brightened.
In an instant, the massive figure of the King Cobra lunged directly at the two giants.
With a loud crash!
As it pounced, thick black chains quickly wrapped around the King Cobra's body, making a creaking sound as they scraped against its scales.
A blade then plunged fiercely into the center of the King Cobra's body.
With a hiss!
Emerald blood erupted forth.
"Roar!!!"
The intense pain caused King Cobra to bite at the nearest giant with his Big Mouth.
'Snap.'
Half of the giant's body disappeared instantly, and the splattering Crimson mist quickly filled the entire area.
"Roar!!"
King Cobra flipped his body, and the transparent membranes around him suddenly spread wide open. A surge of rising power mixed with chaotic, humid air lifted King Cobra's massive form into the air.
'Crack!'
With a body nearly the size of half a hall thrashing wildly, another giant was reduced to a pile of flesh and blood mist, sticking to the ground.
King Cobra, with blood covering his mouth, gasped for breath as his emerald snake eyes scanned the surroundings deeply.
Four or five pillars were cracked extensively from random strikes, and large amounts of Black Liquid flowed out through these fissures.
In the air, amidst the overwhelming stench of blood, there was also a faint hint of a peculiar decaying odor.
The pile of flesh on the ground quickly rose into countless blood mists.
However, King Cobra's tail soon lashed out.
'Splat!'
The flesh on the ground was once again splattered everywhere, but the blood mist became even denser.
A faint yet intense sense of danger stimulated the King Cobra, causing its fine scales to slightly bristle.
Creak.
A sudden sound echoed from the back of the hall.
The King Cobra's massive head immediately turned toward the source.
Not far away, a smooth stone wall unexpectedly revealed a stone door that swung open.
Behind the stone door were translucent tendrils of black ash color, emerging like arms, beckoning her to enter.
The King Cobra silently gazed at the stone door.
Crack!
A pillar suddenly split apart. Countless long, pale arms slowly grasped the edges of the fissure, as if something within was about to emerge.
An aura more terrifying than that of the previous giant instantly spread out.
She glanced at the multitude of pale arms, paused for a moment, then let out a low roar and flew toward the stone door.
Her massive body rapidly shrank, and by the time she reached the stone door, the King Cobra had transformed into a size comparable to an ordinary python. Countless gray clouds enveloped her, and then she plunged into the stone door.
As soon as she entered, she heard a loud bang as the stone door closed behind her.
In the thick, lush green mist, Freya's figure slowly emerged from the dark clouds.
She looked grimly at a wound on her waist, where strands of green blood mixed with faint black smoke were flowing out.
The black smoke occasionally burst forth, preventing the wound from healing, and a sense of decay and coldness was infecting her body.
"Another wave of corrupting power, and it's even stronger than that Hell's Eye from before. Luckily, I was prepared."
She glanced at the dark passage ahead and took out a slender Test Tube from her waist pouch.
The Test Tube contained a swirling green liquid that emitted a faint glow, casting a hazy light on Freya's face.
Without hesitation, she removed the stopper and directed the liquid toward her wound.
'Sizzle'
It sounded like a hot iron being plunged into water, and Freya let out a muffled groan as her already pale face turned even whiter.
The intense pain made her body tremble slightly, and beads of cold sweat trickled down her temples.
Under the strong life force, strands of black smoke were immediately stripped away.
After a while, she placed the Test Tube back into her waist pouch and looked down at the wound, which had completely healed.
Shaking her head lightly, Freya extended her hand and snapped her fingers. A ball of flame instantly appeared between her fingers and then floated away.
This was a passageway, with old torches stuck on both sides.
The ground was covered in thick white ash, and the air was filled with an unpleasant scent of resentment.
Freya scanned the unfamiliar place, and when she turned around, she found that the closed door had completely sealed shut, transforming into a stone wall.
In the bright yellow flames, Freya's eyes flickered slightly.
"What does this guy really want?"
He had lured her into that tomb to obtain Bloodline Power, and then helped her escape in a moment of crisis.
Although various signs indicated that the Spirit temporarily held goodwill towards her, who could say if this was all a trap?
After thinking for a moment, Freya reached out to touch the cold stone wall behind her. She pressed her palm against it with slight force, but the wall remained motionless.
"Although I'm not a wizard specialized in physical magic, I should be able to break through this ordinary stone wall," she scoffed.
Clearly, the Spirit did not want her to return to that hall or the exit she had come through.
This manner of acting as if everything followed some will made Freya feel resistant and repulsed.
However, given the current situation, there seemed to be no better option.
Even if she could return to that hall, those powerful monsters sealed within the pillars would likely demand a heavy price for her to leave, even if she reached her first form.
Moreover, there was a possibility that she could end up trapped there.
After a long silence, Freya slowly turned around and walked toward the passage with a face reflecting uncertainty.
"I want to see what you brought me here for."
With chaotic thoughts swirling in her mind, she soon reached the end of the passage.
At the end stood a half-open stone door. By the light of the fire, Freya could clearly see that there were still footprints remaining in the gap of the stone door.
They were similar to those of Yamato's Spirit from before.
Looking at the footprints on the ground, Freya paused for a moment before stepping into the stone door.
A strong cold wind swept through her hair as Freya stood behind the door. She saw that beneath her feet was a spiral staircase leading down, with gusts of cold air blowing up from the passage below the Stone Steps.
Each Stone Step had a clear footprint, as if someone had just walked down them right before Freya entered.
After standing at the top of the passage for a while, she directly stepped onto the Stone Steps and descended.
In the entire passage, only the sound of Freya's footsteps echoed, creating an eerie atmosphere.
The Stone Steps leading downward were long; she felt as though she had walked for an hour before finally encountering a wooden door.
The wooden door appeared very decayed, with numerous small holes throughout its wooden panels, looking as if it would crumble at a touch.
Gathering her courage, Freya pushed open the wooden door and stepped inside, finding herself in another passage.
However, this passage was much wider than the previous one.
On either side of the passage were dark stone doors, each adorned with various intricate carvings.
Curious, Freya walked up to one of the stone doors and easily pushed it open.
Behind the door was a small stone chamber, within which stood a tall stone statue of a figure riding a warhorse.
The statue was clad in heavy armor, holding what resembled a knight's lance, with a cape billowing slightly behind it. Its face was obscured in shadow, giving it an imposing appearance as if ready to charge into battle.
She reached out to touch the mane behind the warhorse's neck, and her expression suddenly changed as she quickly withdrew her hand.
"Is it warm?"
With a puzzled look at the statue, Freya quietly exited the stone chamber and silently closed the stone door.
Then, she opened several more stone doors and found different statues behind each one.
Faintly, Freya seemed to understand what this strange place really was.
"This is a massive tomb, and judging by the circumstances, it belongs to some powerful intelligent being from the Hell World."
She had collaborated with Klyent multiple times before and understood some knowledge about tombs.
However, those were all from the Wizarding World, and she wasn't sure if the same applied here.
Continuing along the corridor filled with statues, she walked on.
Half an hour later, another massive stone door appeared before her, and the footprints that had been extending on the ground only reached this point.
The stone door was covered in face reliefs, just like the one she had entered through earlier.
The difference was that a narrow hole appeared in the center of this stone door.
This hole was located in the mouth of a stern male face, seemingly a keyhole.
Seeing that keyhole, Freya's heart stirred as she took out the Black Key she had obtained from the Black Armored Woman.
"Is this it?"
After a moment of contemplation, she tried to insert the key into the stone door, gently turning it, and a faint glimmer of black light flashed.
"Click."
The key automatically entered the hole, and the massive stone door slowly began to open.
Freya stood quietly in place, not rushing to enter, simply waiting for the door to fully open.
Inside was a vast hall, with a high platform in the center that held a red chair.
A delicate humanoid skeleton leaned on a black longsword while sitting in the chair.
Behind the skeleton were limbs resembling bone wings, reminiscent of Freya's past transcendence.
Suddenly, the fragile skeleton shattered with a loud crash, leaving only the black longsword standing there.
Freya narrowed her eyes slightly. After a long pause, she spoke in Hell Universal Language.
"Your purpose has been achieved; shouldn't you let me leave now?"
As if responding to Freya's words, ripples suddenly appeared beside the longsword, and a blurry figure gradually materialized.
The figure was surrounded by countless twisted black tendrils, and their intense grievance made Freya furrow her brow.
"From Otherworldly Traveler," a hoarse and strange voice emerged from the figure. "Thank you; as a reward, this is for you."
As soon as the voice fell, a translucent ring abruptly appeared before her.
The ring was nothing special, just like an ordinary band.
Freya did not take the ring immediately and frowned slightly. "What is this?"
"This is something that can show you the true source of the world of death."
Silence ensued as Freya stood in place for a long time before she slowly spoke again.
"I don't want this. I just want to go outside."
"Oh?" (To be continued.)
