Chapter 303:
"I heard about this from Lord Klyent. I didn't expect you to have already reached the embryonic stage; that's impressive."
Shirley looked at Freya with a peculiar gaze.
For a wizard who hasn't studied biology systematically, creating a pet with consciousness is not an easy task.
From her words, Shirley could sense Freya's understanding of biology.
As if she didn't notice Shirley's gaze, Freya smiled modestly and said, "It's nothing special. It's just a successful case of an experimental subject. I'm not sure if it can actually be synthesized."
"That's still quite good," Shirley nodded. "However, the Colbera King Snake was considered a royal-level creature in ancient times. If you want to base it on the King Cobra's bloodline, the failure rate will be very high."
"I know that. I'm just giving it a try; who knows, it might succeed," Freya replied, her eyes lighting up when she heard Shirley mention information about the King Cobra. She feigned curiosity and asked, "By the way, what was that royal-level creature you mentioned earlier?"
Shirley had no intention of hiding her thoughts regarding Freya's interest. She organized her words and explained, "You know, in ancient times, there were powerful creatures everywhere on Earth. Mutations and aberrations could happen almost anytime. The classification of their levels back then wasn't as clear as it is in our era. However, when a creature's strength grows to the point where it can disrupt the ecological balance and most enemies are ineffective against it, that signifies it has become a king. Royal-level creatures usually have their own purpose for existence—either to protect a piece of land or to continue their species. Essentially, every action taken by such beings can bring about new life or death."
Listening quietly to Shirley's narrative, Freya pondered for a moment before asking, "That kind of creature sounds like the Storm Behemoth from Sky City. Is it also a royal-level creature?"
"When it comes to the Sky Leviathan," hearing Freya mention it, Shirley's expression became somewhat strange.
She let out a slight sigh, her tone mixed with a hint of regret.
"It is a king, but it is a king that has lost its meaning of existence."
Noticing Shirley's somewhat downcast mood, Freya raised an eyebrow and changed the subject.
"Let's talk about the Colbera King Snake instead. I'm more interested in that."
"Alright. Since you want to know." Shirley eased her emotions and paused before continuing.
"The Colbera King Snake is one of the few beings that surpassed the king level in Ancient Times. Its territory includes not only the primordial swamps but also boundless oceans. Its massive size allows it to completely disregard all threats. In essence, a mature Colbera King Snake cannot be harmed by anything."
Hearing this, Freya frowned slightly. However, she did not interrupt with questions directly; she simply continued to listen to Shirley's account.
"In all the information I have gathered, there have only been traces of three King Cobras appearing in the world. And if you think about it carefully, you can imagine how low the chances are of obtaining such a rare Bloodline."
"Three?" Freya pondered for a moment before looking up at Shirley and asking, "Wasn't Klyent saying that there were traces of King Cobra in the ruins here? What’s going on with that?"
"It was just detected that there was a trace of Bloodline," Shirley replied calmly. "As far as I know, Hester and King Cobra had a brief trading period during Ancient Times, but that time was too short, and there is very little recorded information on this aspect. Instead of searching for the extremely rare Bloodline, you might as well look into the rare knowledge of Ancient Wizards; it would be very beneficial for you."
"Okay, I understand. I will consider it."
Shirley's kind reminder only made Freya nod, but a thoughtful expression appeared on her face.
Seeing Freya lost in thought, Shirley did not disturb her; she simply continued to drive the carriage forward in silence.
Freya was seriously considering the feasibility of this expedition to the ruins.
According to Shirley, the rarity of the King Cobra reflected the strength of this creature. It certainly was not a product of natural generation but had reached such heights through its own mutations or evolution.
However, the Bloodline of such creatures generally carried a strong element of uncertainty. If Freya were to find the Bloodline and implant it in her body, the original King Cobra Bloodline might regress to its most primitive form, the Mud Python Bloodline, which would be a significant loss.
Freya did not know how the wizard who once obtained the King Cobra Legacy dealt with such changes.
Nevertheless, this did not prevent her from collecting the Royal Serpent Bloodline.
"Even without the Bloodline, I might still gather some useful information about the King Cobra. Then this Ruins Exploration wouldn't be a waste," she calmly analyzed in her mind based on the information she had extracted from Shirley.
The carriage traveled at a steady pace, moving toward an unnamed area in the distant Black Mountains after passing through two cities.
Three hours later.
In the Azure Sky, there were lead-colored clouds.
These thick clouds carried a hint of moisture, creating a strange sense of incongruity with the unusually clear sky.
Below, on a winding yellowish-brown road, two carriages sped along.
Udi stood atop the front carriage, squinting his eyes as he gazed at the distant Black Mountains.
Beside him was Senterman, who had already healed from his injuries. He looked up at the sky and spoke in a calm tone.
"It seems that a thunderstorm will come over soon. You won't be affected, right?"
Udi smiled and took out the golden hollow Sphere from his chest to take a look.
"This little rain won't bother me."
"That's good. I don't want to knock you out in the rain like last time; it was quite a hassle," Senterman said casually.
"Hehe."
Without responding further, Udi stood on the roof of the car for a while before returning inside.
Inside the car, Freya and Klyent were meditating. Upon noticing his entrance, both opened their eyes simultaneously.
Klyent moved his somewhat stiff neck and said in a low voice, "Have we arrived?"
"We're almost there. We still have about half an hour to go," Udi replied with a smile.
"Alright, same as usual." Klyent nodded and suddenly shouted towards the outside of the car, "Shirley, check if there are any other wizards nearby and also contact our team."
Soon, Shirley's voice came back.
"Okay, sir!"
Freya, who had been silent, suddenly felt the carriage shake, accompanied by a clattering sound from outside.
She opened the window and saw a dense flock of red birds soaring into the sky, flying in all directions at incredible speed.
Looking at these reconnaissance creatures she had nurtured, Freya displayed an envious expression.
"What a useful ability."
Although her flying seeds were also a type of aerial reconnaissance magic, their quantity and speed could not compare to Shirley's flock of birds; the difference was too great.
After about five minutes, the birds began to return one by one.
Before long, Shirley called out from outside the carriage.
"Master. There are currently no signs of any wizards. The second team has arrived at the entrance and is analyzing the spatial entrance. The third and first teams are also on their way."
"Great!" Upon hearing Shirley's words, Klyent stood up. "Then we shouldn't dawdle any longer. Let's pick up the pace."
"Understood." Udi nodded and lightly tossed the golden sphere in his hand.
With a 'whoosh,' a circle of transparent air bubbles spread out from him.
The carriage that Freya was sitting in suddenly jolted, and the scenery beside them that had been slowly retreating flashed by as their speed increased to its maximum.
This made her instinctively grab onto something stable beside her.
Suddenly, a loud banging sound came from the roof of the carriage, followed by Senterman's curses echoing down.
"Damn it, Udi! You jerk!!!"
Udi, who had caused trouble for his friend, remained unfazed. He glanced at Freya, whose expression was calm but still somewhat unusual.
"Heh, that guy can find our location even if he falls off. No need to worry; he'll just arrive a bit later."
Klyent turned away in silence, clearly used to this and not bothered by it.
The enchanted carriage, which would normally take half an hour to travel, arrived in just ten minutes.
As soon as the carriage stopped, everyone hurriedly jumped out.
Freya scanned the surroundings and realized that they had reached the foot of the Black Mountains.
Not far away, about ten wizards dressed in white animal skins were fiddling with some instruments, seemingly detecting something as transparent ripples continuously emanated from them.
Seeing Klyent emerge, a wizard who appeared to be the leader quickly approached.
Looking at the ripples being released around them, Klyent casually asked, "How's it going? Have we found the entrance since the last time we opened it?"
"Report, sir. We have some leads. It should take no more than ten minutes to open the Ruins Gate," the man replied respectfully with a bow.
"Mm." Klyent nodded and then instructed, "Once the first and third teams arrive, get everything ready. This ruins is more dangerous than the last one; everyone needs to be cautious."
"Yes, my lord."
After giving the orders, he turned to Freya and the others.
"Alright, let's wait for a moment."
Without saying a word, everyone nodded in agreement.
Before long, two teams of wizards drove their carriages from different directions of the mountains.
The carriages seemed heavy, leaving deep tracks in the ground beneath their wooden wheels.
After reporting to Klyent, the group of wizards quickly unloaded several Silver Boxes from the carriages.
Upon opening them, they revealed various components inside.
From Freya's perspective, she could only identify a few of them as Energy Circuits and other types of Rune Modules.
Soon, the wizards assembled these modules into a massive pyramid-shaped object, emitting an exceptionally strong wave of energy.
In no time, the second team that had been testing suddenly felt a tremor around them.
From the originally transparent ripples, circles of black waves slowly spread apart like thin gauze, revealing a gigantic stone door shrouded in darkness.
The captain who had just reported came running over.
"My lord, the entrance has been fully analyzed and is now accessible."
Klyent squinted at the massive stone door and said calmly, "Then let's activate the secondary teleportation array and prepare to enter."
"Yes, my lord."
Freya stood nearby, staring blankly at the pyramid structure.
She hadn't expected that every time Klyent entered a ruin, it would be under such circumstances; no wonder he always had gains.
Thinking back, the secret realms or ruins she had explored before were always done alone, making them far more dangerous.
The others showed no signs of concern as they checked their equipment.
After her moment of reflection, Freya also carefully examined her belongings to avoid forgetting or overlooking anything.
As everyone was checking their gear, a bright white light suddenly illuminated the top of the pyramid.
Immediately after, this beam of light shot straight toward the massive stone door.
'Bang!'
The light struck the stone door as if it were melting it away.
A dark hole slowly revealed itself and gradually expanded.
However, the opening only grew large enough for one person and then remained still, as if restricted by something.
This made Klyent frown slightly. He waved to a nearby wizard.
"What's wrong? What's the situation?"
The wizard called by him replied respectfully.
"Sir, it seems that there are spatial isolation restrictions at the entrance. Our teleportation array can only allow seven people to enter. If there are too many, the entrance will automatically collapse and trigger the traps inside."
"Oh?"
Looking at the secondary teleportation portal that was constantly shrinking and expanding, Klyent thought for a moment before turning to the few people behind him.
"You all heard that, right? So, shall we go in directly this time?"
"I don't mind," Senterman said expressionlessly.
"Same here," Udi added.
Shirley had no opinion, while Freya looked at him with the same gaze.
"Alright," Klyent said. "Then have Jester and Orf prepare. We'll go in together as seven, and the others should guard outside."
"Yes, sir." The person quickly retreated.
Five minutes later, the seven prepared individuals stood at the now stabilized entrance.
Klyent expressionlessly gazed into the dark Passageway inside and lightly stepped on the ground.
A layer of white, bone-like substance automatically spread over him, quickly transforming into a suit of armor that adorned his body.
He took a deep breath and stepped boldly through the entrance.
"Let's go."
The others followed him in one after another.
Freya, as the protected one, walked in the middle.
As soon as she stepped into the ruins, a faint chill mixed with a decayed scent suddenly wafted from deep within.
This made Freya narrow her eyes slightly.
"Is there a Spirit present here?"
She glanced at the others, only to find that apart from her, no one else seemed to react; it appeared that she was the only one able to sense this chill.
Tightening her Robe, she quietly twisted a ring on her finger, and immediately a special Force Field quietly enveloped her entire body. (To be continued...)
