Chapter 301:
The violent turbulence of energy around her made her stomach feel nauseous.
Even her body, which had been reinforced multiple times, felt extremely uncomfortable.
In contrast, the strong wizard across from her showed no signs of distress; he simply paused for a moment before taking out a black whistle and placing it in his mouth.
A silent whistle sounded from his lips.
Still recovering, Freya felt her body suddenly shake, and then the clouds around her rapidly retreated, revealing a thin layer of transparent Force Field protecting her.
"Is this the Lark?"
Freya looked down at her feet, where the ground was covered with overlapping brown giant feathers.
A strong Bloodline Aura emanated from beneath her, and she distinctly felt as if she were standing on the back of a massive brown bird, though its size made it hard to see clearly.
"Transcendence, the wingspan of the Lark can reach a kilometer. It possesses the Ancient Bloodline of the Cloud-Scattering Eagle and is one of the most potent creatures among the existing Ancient Beasts' Bloodlines. Truly incredible."
Hearing Freya's musings, the wizard who had finished blowing the whistle turned his head and smiled.
"Yes, I didn't expect Lady Freya to have knowledge of Ancient Creatures. This is Lord Klyent's Lark; its name is Heisa. It was hatched from an egg found in an ancient ruin."
"Another ancient ruin?"
At his words, Freya smiled lightly, a glimmer of something enigmatic flashing in her eyes.
The Lark was large, but its food requirements were proportionate. To raise and control such a massive flying pet, Freya had already begun to suspect Klyent's identity or organization.
Located in the northern snow mountains of the City of Illusions, the Barbarian Fortress ranked fifth within the Wizard Organization.
The members of that organization are basically wizards with various degrees of barbarian bloodlines. Although they rank high, they are relatively mysterious due to their remote location.
Freya did not know much about that organization, but combining what she knew about Klyent and his subordinates, along with the large bird beneath her, she could almost confirm it.
After thinking for a moment, Freya spoke up.
"By the way, do you know if anyone besides Klyent's group is interested in that ruin?"
"I'm not too sure about that either. However, from what Lord Shirley implied, it seems that group consists of wizards from the Shadow Realm."
"Shadow Realm? What is that?" Freya frowned; it seemed there was no Wizard Organization by that name in Cloud City.
"Those are wizards from the underground, not part of the local Wizard Organization in Cloud City." He scratched his head and revealed his white teeth. "I don't know the specifics. You know how it is; Surface Sorcerers and Underworld Sorcerers generally don't get along."
"Is that so? I understand." Freya nodded.
The relationship between Underworld Sorcerers and Surface Sorcerers is somewhat akin to the conflicts with the Sea Tribe. In some regions, wizards from both sides have been engaged in years of warfare.
In other areas, however, the two sides coexist peacefully and harmoniously.
Ultimately, it all boils down to conflicts over ideology or resources.
Having been a wizard for so long, Freya had encountered very few Underworld Sorcerers aside from Rand's Evil Crow Clan, so she didn't know much about them.
She hadn't expected to encounter them this time.
If they were like Rand's type of Underworld Sorcerer, this expedition to the ruins might not go smoothly.
No, Freya wasn't particularly afraid of this; first, she trusted the strength of Klyent and his group. Second, she had prepared thoroughly for this adventure.
She had brought along all her defensive runes and Cursed Items.
This is the result of over a year of accumulation.
Without the immense wealth brought by Klyent, she would not have such rich equipment.
Since there is no need to worry about external forces, the only concern left is the ancient ruins themselves.
Freya was quietly contemplating her own matters, while the Wizard was not one to talk much.
In their silence, Lark's massive form sped through the air.
Although they were in the sky and could not gauge the exact speed with any object, Freya could still feel how terrifying her current speed was.
If it weren't for the Force Field automatically generated by Lark for protection, it wouldn't be surprising if they were blown off and fell.
Lark's stamina seemed limitless as she continued to fly.
Meanwhile, the two of them rested and ate on the bird's back.
Two hours later.
In the Crimson Tower area, near Medea Mountains, in Medea City.
A Tall Shadow draped in gray beast skin drove a carriage slowly into the city.
After wandering around for half an hour, the carriage finally stopped in front of a tea shop.
Feeling the carriage come to a halt, Freya jumped down from it.
After adjusting her Robe, she walked into the shop.
At this moment, the large tea shop was exceptionally quiet, with no one in sight on the rows of brown leather sofas.
Freya looked down the corridor of the shop towards the last row, where four figures cloaked in Robes were already seated.
One particularly strong-looking man noticed Freya and waved at her.
Without any response, she quickly walked over and took a seat that had already been prepared for her.
The sofa was very soft, and Freya leaned back against it. In front of her was a glass of green drink, emitting a faint chill and smelling fragrant.
She picked it up and took a light sip, wrinkling her nose before setting it down again.
Klyent, sitting next to her, noticed Freya's reaction and grinned, laughing out loud.
"Ha ha, Lizard bitter tea; most people can't taste the sweetness in it."
Ignoring his teasing, Freya scanned the other three individuals.
They were two Wizards and a Witch, all dressed in Robes, looking quite young and exceptionally handsome.
These three were members of Klyent's expedition team, whom Freya had seen a few times but wasn't particularly familiar with.
After nodding to the three of them, Freya turned to Klyent and said,
"Alright, I'm here. It’s been so long; there shouldn't be anyone else now. So what are your plans moving forward?"
Hearing her words, Klyent glanced at the crystal clock hanging on the wall before returning his gaze and speaking in a low voice.
"Yes, it's about time. I've already mentioned the information regarding the ruins."
He looked at the Witch and continued,
"I previously sent Shirley to conduct tests. This is an ancient Wizard Organization ruin related to Hester. Moreover, it belongs to an initial excavation phase. No one has entered yet; we are the first ones. Besides numerous dangerous traps, there are also abundant resources. Tests indicate that this ruin not only contains well-preserved ancient materials and knowledge but may also harbor ancient Biological Bloodlines. What are your thoughts?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the Wizard sitting across from him, with short chestnut hair and a cold expression, directly stated,
"I have no interest in the Bloodline of Ancient Beasts. However, I need to share ancient knowledge; as for resources, I want thirty percent."
Freya remembered that this Wizard was named Senterman, a Second-Level Wizard specializing in the Necromancy Department. He had a cold personality and was ruthless in his dealings.
According to what Klyent had previously revealed, he seemed to be a wanted criminal from some large Wizarding Organization, possessing considerable strength.
Since no Wizard Organization would take him in, he had teamed up with Klyent to form an exploration team to acquire Promotion Resources.
"That’s certainly not a problem," Klyent replied readily, then turned his gaze to another Wizard.
"What about you, Udi? I remember that your project is in the final stages; do you need more resources this time?"
The Wizard he was speaking to was somewhat gentler compared to the cold Senterman. He smiled and nodded.
"Yes, since Lysanth is not here this time, give me thirty percent as well. If there’s any Biological Bloodline, I’d like a share of that too."
"Alright, sounds good."
Klyent did not ask the witch because Shirley was already one of Klyent's subordinates.
He directly turned to Freya and gestured for her to speak.
"Don't look at me; I'm just a Liquid Wizard here to assist you all. If there’s a Bloodline of King Cobra, I can waive my share of the resources, but I also want to share in the knowledge."
"Heh, you're not just a Liquid Wizard," Klyent chuckled upon hearing Freya's self-description. "Among those present, if we consider knowledge reserves, none of them have even half of yours. Besides, this time the ruins are Hester; all the various rune analyses will rely on you."
Once he said this, the other three showed no intention of refuting him; it seemed they had experienced Freya's super intellect before.
Without saying anything further, Freya simply nodded calmly.
Her understanding of modern and ancient runes indeed gives her an advantage.
Now that the matters regarding the ruins are settled, Klyent paused and continued.
"Alright, let's talk about those people from the Shadow Realm. According to my subordinates' tracking, there are a total of four of them, with levels ranging from Second Level to Level Three. They seem to have a good understanding of the ruins and have already located the entrance three times. I suspect they have a map. My suggestion is to subdue these four outside and extract the secrets of the ruins from them."
Senterman thought for a moment and spoke up.
"If they have a map, then this time dealing with the ruins will be much easier. However, have you tested their strength, or should I probe them first?"
"No," Klyent shook his head. "Your dead insect disguise is too obvious. If you probe them, it would be easy for someone with ill intentions to guess it's you."
"Then let me handle it this time," Udi said with a smile. "I'm not a wanted criminal, so it should be fine."
"Alright, take Shirley with you for safety," Klyent gestured towards Shirley. "Also, prepare a bit more this time."
Freya, sitting quietly to the side, listened to their discussion. Aside from her earlier comments, she had remained silent.
The combined strength of the group was above hers; although she was also a Second-Level Wizard, in the eyes of others, aside from her expertise in runes and crafting Cursed Items, she was indeed seen as a weak target for protection.
Soon, the four finished their discussion.
They stood up from their seats, with Senterman and the other two heading out first to prepare some supplies.
Klyent stayed behind and took out a cleverly crafted skull resembling that of a rodent from his waist, handing it to Freya.
"You should go rest at the inn. If anything unexpected happens, crush this. If we are nearby, we will come to help you directly."
Freya took the beast bone and nodded.
"Okay, I understand."
"Alright, then you should rest. Try not to come out tonight."
After giving instructions to Freya, Klyent strode away.
This operation was scheduled for midnight, primarily to lure the four from the Shadow Realm together, and then Klyent and all his subordinates would eliminate them in one fell swoop.
However, this had nothing to do with Freya.
After all, her current identity was merely that of a weak Erudite.
Retrieving the beast bone, Freya glanced at the four people quickly leaving outside before stepping out of the tea shop.
Soon, as time passed, the sky gradually darkened, and night fell.
Several bright stars twinkled in the dim sky.
Freya stood by the window of the inn, quietly observing the unusually silent street below.
The blue streetlights cast a cold glow on the cobblestones of the road.
Suddenly, not far down the street, a golden light surged upward, accompanied by an exceptionally strong wave of energy emanating from that direction.
"Is it starting already?"
She slightly squinted her eyes.
Although she couldn't sense the specific magical fluctuations from such a distance, judging by the sound and light effects coming from that area, the battle seemed to be quite intense.
Medea City could be considered a city of both ordinary people and wizards; for a battle of this magnitude, it wasn't long before a swarm of crimson shadows appeared in the sky, flying toward the location of the fight with an exceptionally dangerous aura.
Shortly after that group of Crimson Shadows flew past, a massive white silver wolf suddenly appeared amidst the tall buildings.
The green wolf's eyes gleamed with a cruel light, its fur standing on end as it let out a provocative roar.
In no time, its massive body swept the street clean.
A chilling white mist emanated from the giant wolf, creating an icy aura that made the air feel as frigid as winter.
"Is that the aura of Klyent's sorcery?" The giant wolf's power had already allowed Freya, who was far away, to catch a whiff of a familiar scent. "It seems the battle is about to end."
Klyent's strength was at the pinnacle of Third Rank, just one step away from advancing to Dawn Wizard.
Moreover, due to his inherent Barbarian Bloodline, he was also the strongest in actual combat.
Not long after Freya had finished, the silver wolf let out an angry howl, its enormous jaws suddenly opening wide as a powerful aura gathered within.
'Shoo!'
A white pillar of snow shot out, quickly enveloping the surrounding streets in a layer of translucent hard ice.
In that moment, all the large Crimson Shadow that had pounced forward were instantly sent flying back toward their original direction.
From Freya's position, it was clear to see that those Crimson Shadow were wizards dressed in Red Robe, their faces pale and their robes covered in white ice crystals, looking extremely disheveled. (To be continued...)
