Chapter 285:
Just as she was about to take a break, a sharp alarm sounded from the Flying Death, which had been flying steadily. Outside the cabin, there were increasingly loud sounds of running and shouting.
This made Freya, who had not had a proper rest for a while, furrow her brows.
She walked to the round window of the cabin and saw more than a dozen apprentices dressed in Gray Robe quickly running onto the deck, each holding a black staff taller than themselves, murmuring incantations as they cast spells around them.
At that moment, a swarm of bizarre red Bees surged around the Airship.
Each of these Bees was the size of a fist, but their stingers were twice the length of their bodies, reflecting a metallic sheen like daggers.
They relentlessly attacked the ship's hull and the hot air balloon above.
"Are those Stinging Bees?"
Seeing those creatures, Freya narrowed her eyes slightly.
As far as she knew, these creatures were not merely energy-polluted Demonized Creatures, but insects that had survived since ancient times for some reason.
In All Things Studies, there are quite a few low-level Ancient Beasts that have survived, and they are still subjects of research for organizations seeking to revive Ancient Wizards.
In terms of strength, from Freya's perspective, one of these Ancient Beasts had power and speed comparable to that of a Knight Level among ordinary humans.
However, these creatures had strong reproductive capabilities; although their intelligence was similar to that of ordinary insects, they appeared in large swarms. If it weren't for the intervention of an Official Wizard, they could be quite troublesome.
This group of Gray Robed Apprentices seems to be the defenders of the Airship. The spells they cast are not offensive but rather special magic to reinforce material defenses, likely waiting for the main person in charge of the Airship.
Sure enough, after a short while, the Black-Robed Wizard Nopay, whom I had seen when boarding, strode out of the cabin.
He held a black staff in his hand, his expression solemn. His tall and strong body seemed to swell even more at this moment. Fine black hairs slowly began to sprout from his body.
The black robe could barely contain his increasingly inflated physique.
He simply reached out and tore it off with a rip, exposing his unusually darkened body.
He raised his staff and began chanting a spell that sounded like a furious roar.
Soon, strands of purple lightning appeared around him, gradually gathering at the tip of his staff.
Then he pointed his staff sharply at the densely packed Stinging Bees.
Bang!!
With a loud explosion, a web-like form of purple lightning surged toward the swarm of Stinging Bees.
In an instant, the covered Stinging Bees turned into charred remains and fell onto the deck, dropping like dumplings in boiling water.
"Is that the Purple Net Technique? Not bad."
If there were no special circumstances, this spell alone might not eliminate the swarm of Stinging Bees, but it would certainly make them aware that this Airship was not something they could provoke.
Knowing that the outcome was already determined, Freya turned her head.
However, she suddenly seemed to think of something and turned around to glance at the large number of Stinging Bees still falling outside.
After pondering for a moment, she walked to the door, pulled it open, and stepped outside.
On the deck outside, apart from Nopay and a few others who were still clearing away the remaining Stinging Bees, there was no one else.
A faint scent of Black Ash mixed with a burnt odor permeated the air.
Seeing Freya walk out of the cabin, Nopay, who was directing the others, was slightly taken aback but quickly approached her.
"Lady Freya, is there something you need?"
He still held great respect for the few witches aboard this Airship.
Glancing at his gradually returning to a normal human form, Freya smiled and said, "Hehe, it's nothing much. I'm just a bit curious about these ancient surviving creatures called Stinging Bees, so I came to take a look."
"Is that so? Then please feel free."
Nopay turned away and did not ask further.
Freya directly brushed past him and walked over to a Stinging Bee that had not been electrocuted and was lying on the deck through the gaps in the electric net.
This Stinging Bee had only its wings and limbs scorched; its body was relatively intact and was struggling on the deck. Its stinger struck against the surface with a crackling sound.
As Freya crouched down and was about to reach out her hand, suddenly, the stinger at the end of the Stinging Bee vanished.
A faint sound suddenly echoed in front of Freya.
"Ding!"
The missing stinger quietly floated before her, firmly trapped by a stream of azure wind.
Freya glanced at the stinger and lightly snapped her fingers.
With a 'sizzle,' a thin blue line flashed between its head and body. The Stinging Bee, which had been struggling, became completely still.
After doing this, she reached out to pick up the remaining body of the Stinging Bee.
On the deck, such stragglers were not many, but there were still some.
Once she collected them all, there were ten in total, which she put into a sack and carried back to her room.
After tidying up the table, she placed the processed Stinging Bees on top.
Looking at the bodies of the Stinging Bees that nearly occupied half the table, Freya reached out to pick one up and hold it before her eyes.
"These are all Ancient Beasts. After studying them for so long, it's time to test their absorption capacity."
Holding the body of the Stinging Bee in her hand, she lightly tapped on the Rune Array that had already been engraved on the table.
With a 'sizzle,' numerous runes around the Rune Array lit up with white light. Freya pressed one hand on the Rune Array while holding the Stinging Bee with the other.
After a moment, her eyes suddenly flashed with green light, and her round pupils vaguely transformed into slit pupils, appearing somewhat eerie.
She did not use the direct method of sucking with her mouth as she did last time, but instead used her right hand as a medium for absorption.
A mass of green illusion slowly spread out from the green point at the center of Freya's right hand, curling around the Stinging Bee in her grasp like a slender green snake.
With a faint sound, the body of the Stinging Bee gradually began to shrivel, as if some substance inside was being drawn out.
Freya deliberately slowed her absorption speed and looked down at the Rune Array being touched by her other hand.
The Rune Array, which originally emitted a white halo, began to show a thin red line, about the thickness of a hair, as she absorbed. Over time, it continued to grow.
Freya focused on the changes of this Thin Line.
After a long while, with a 'pop' sound, the body of the Stinging Bee seemed to dry up like windblown dust, turning into fine ash that flowed down her palm.
Scattering the ashes from her hand, Freya observed the final transformation of the Thin Line and nodded in satisfaction.
"It seems to be similar to what I deduced earlier. The absorption ability of the King Cobra is enhanced according to the strength standard of its Bloodline. Although the Bloodline of the Stinging Bee belongs to Ancient Beasts, its strength is comparable to an ordinary human Knight Level. Based on this, the spiritual power provided by one Stinging Bee is roughly equivalent to half of a First-Class Apprentice's total spiritual power. Its physical quality is also similar; at my current level, according to this calculation, I would need at least eighty thousand Stinging Bees to reach the peak of Liquefaction, and that's considering the Bloodline aspect of the Stinging Bee."
Carefully analyzing various indicators of absorption ability in her mind and conducting several experiments repeatedly, she reached a conclusion. This snake-like digestive absorption ability could actually achieve a utilization rate of fifty percent, which is rarely attainable in existing witchcraft.
"However, this ability only applies in a stationary state. In combat situations, unless there is further modification to the body or obtaining the Bloodline of the King Cobra, it remains quite terrifying."
Freya faintly sensed that this special ability could completely push her body to its limits.
However, this limit is only in terms of spiritual power. She does not know if her physical limits will continue to increase with further development.
Ten minutes later.
In the boundless black forest, towering dark mountains lay like slumbering beasts.
On the other side of the mountains was a deep ocean, where waves crashed against the rocks, creating a loud roar.
East of the Dis Mountain Range.
In the silent forest, suddenly, with a 'crack,' a black leather boot crushed a black bug hidden beneath the decaying leaves.
Freya, carrying a suitcase, slowly emerged from the depths of the forest. In her hand, she held a black leopard, with faint traces of blood and brain matter flowing from its forehead, indicating it had just died.
She casually discarded the demonized creature that had ambushed her.
She glanced around at the quiet forest. After briefly determining her direction, she disappeared back into the woods.
Two minutes later.
In an ordinary town not far from Elgreen Academy.
Freya, now wearing her black cloak again, entered a beverage shop and ordered a cup of green tea, sipping it lightly.
Aside from her, there was a couple that seemed to be in love and a young man dressed in noble attire in the shop.
After glancing at the solitary young man, Freya turned her head back and closed her eyes in silence.
After an unknown amount of time, just after the couple had left, another person entered the empty shop.
It was a tall, slender girl dressed in a gray robe, with short silver hair. She carried a black longbow and a quiver on her back, and the sides of her robe bulged slightly, suggesting she was equipped with other weapons as well.
Her features were ordinary, but her ears were pointed and unusually delicate, resembling those of a transcendent elf.
The girl scanned the shop and quickly spotted Freya in the corner.
She walked briskly to Freya and respectfully asked, "Excuse me, are you Lady Freya?"
"Yes, that's me," Freya replied, opening her eyes to look at the girl. She could faintly smell blood on her.
"That's wonderful! I am a student of Master Rand. My name is Tali," the girl said joyfully. "He originally asked me to come pick you up this morning, but I encountered some issues along the way."
"It's alright," Freya interrupted, waving her hand as she stood up and picked up a leather suitcase beside her. "Let's go. On the way, tell me about Rand's recent situation. It seems that things haven't been optimistic for you at Elgreen Academy these past few years."
"Sure," the apprentice named Tali replied.
The two of them exited the shop, called for a carriage, and hurriedly left the town.
Three hours later.
In a secluded path within a dark forest, Freya and Tali walked quietly together.
As they walked, Tali occasionally stopped to recite a spell before continuing on.
Freya, who quietly followed behind, did not show any signs of impatience; she merely observed her surroundings lightly.
After a while, the two arrived in front of what appeared to be an abandoned Stone House.
Tali took out a black feather from behind and gently pressed it against the Stone House. A subtle ripple passed through, and the door of the Stone House opened automatically, revealing a dark passage inside.
"This is our temporary hideout; it's a bit rudimentary," Tali said with a slight tug at her mouth, revealing an awkward smile.
"Mm." Freya nodded, her expression unreadable.
Once Tali stepped inside, she followed suit.
Torches burned along both sides of the passage, illuminating the path ahead.
Freya, who had been silent all along, frowned as she looked at the stone walls on either side of the passage. They were covered in obvious green moss and emitted a faint smell of decay.
Suddenly, she spoke up.
"Aside from Rand choosing to stay behind, are there any other members of his family here? Has Elgreen Academy sent out any assassination teams recently?"
"Aside from the teacher, Lord Lani and two other adults chose to stay. As for the assassination team, it is led by Leander, the former Necromancy Instructor from Elgreen Academy," Tali replied as she walked ahead.
"Oh? It's Leander?"
Freya vaguely recalled that she had once spent some time under Leander's tutelage as a research assistant, during which she learned quite a bit about anatomy.
She never expected that so many things would happen at Elgreen Academy in just a few years since she left.
First, the betrayal of the Nis Family among the academy's higher-ups led to the breakdown of the mutual restraint among several major families. Then, there was the malicious incident involving the leak of biological specimens from the Necromancy Department, followed by a slanderous conspiracy against the Rand Family led by the Quictor Family.
Ultimately, this resulted in the Bennifen Evil Crow clan retreating unscathed at the cost of sacrificing Rand's father, Elder Finiel.
As a result, what was once a prestigious Elgreen Academy began to decline rapidly within a short period.
In such an environment, Freya could easily imagine the impact that these events had on Rand, who had originally wanted to accomplish certain things.
She sighed lightly and, under Tali's guidance, soon passed through several old rooms and arrived at a wooden door.
Tali stepped aside and said, "The teacher is inside. I'll be leaving now."
"Okay."
Freya nodded. After Tali left, she reached out and gently knocked on the wooden door.
Knock, knock, knock.
"The door is unlocked; come in," came Rand's familiar voice from behind the door.
Freya opened the door and walked in.
The room was dimly lit, with only a white candle on the table providing illumination.
A dark figure floated above the table, writing something, the quill making a faint scratching sound.
Freya stood at the door, watching the somewhat unfamiliar silhouette, unsure of what to think.
After a while, it seemed he had finished writing and set down the quill, standing up straight.
In the dim light, he smiled and said, "Freya, you’ve come."
"Yes, it’s been a while," Freya replied with a smile. "I hope you don’t mind if I brighten this place up a bit?"
