Although the Ice Spike appeared to move slowly, Freya could genuinely sense a hint of threat from it.
Clearly, this Ice Spike was not just a simple projectile spell.
She furrowed her brow slightly and glanced at the white figure rushing toward her, then murmured an incantation before slamming her hand against the ground.
A flash of emerald light flickered rapidly in her palm.
Creeeak, creeeak.
A mass of dark brown vines extended rapidly from the Black Soil like eerie tentacles, directly sweeping toward the approaching Abyssal Creature.
The Zero-Level Catalyst Spell she obtained from Saradin had been continuously improved by her. While its power might not match that of a First-Level Spell, it was nearly on par, and it was particularly suitable for the current environment.
The dense mass of brown vines had little room to evade in this forest, forcing it to use its poorly suited Stiletto to block. However, the Ice Flame continuously burning on the Blade quickly froze the vines, keeping pace with the ever-growing tendrils.
Glancing at the Abyssal Creature temporarily blocked by the vines, she swiftly drew a Black Dagger from her waist and suddenly hurled it toward the Ice Spike.
Clang!
The dagger struck precisely at the tip of the Ice Spike, but instead of being deflected, the Ice Spike split in two with a crack and shot back toward Freya.
It was evident that there was a special guiding spell on it.
As the two Ice Spikes were about to hit her, Freya swung her sword back and slashed at them.
Crack!
The crimson blade of the sword sliced through two Ice Spikes, but they quickly reformed and this time multiplied into four.
This sudden change forced Freya to temporarily retreat, a serious expression appearing on her face.
"Elemental Splitting?"
As she swiftly backed away, she glanced in Mersais's direction and noticed that a faint mist of ice had enveloped the area without her realizing it.
A subtle chill spread from there, clearly a life-saving Spell.
The previous few Zero-Level Spells, combined with the First-Level Spell used against Freya, had already drained a significant amount of mental energy from this Newly Advanced Wizard.
A gentle Azure Wind Flow enveloped her, further enhancing her already swift speed.
Ignoring the four Ice Spikes behind her, she flicked her hand, sending four Purple Flames rapidly towards the mist.
The four Ashfires quickly vanished into the ice mist. Then Freya clenched her palm tightly.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!!
The four bursts of Purple Flame exploded violently. The intense heat generated forcefully dispersed the recently formed mist, revealing the figure hidden within.
Mersais lay on the ground in a somewhat disheveled state.
A layer of white ice covered his back, but he had not sustained much damage.
In the forest, Freya spotted Mersais appearing as she swiftly darted through the trees. With a quick turn of her body, she ran directly towards him.
A layer of white energy spread from her, slowly forming two long silver tassels that attached to her back.
In an instant, Freya's speed reached its peak.
In the forest, only a flash of white phantom could be seen.
"Wind."
A gentle whisper echoed in Mersais's ear. Just as he was about to rise, he suddenly felt a tremendous force behind him.
The next moment, he was sent flying backward, and the white ice layer that formed behind him displayed large, dense cracks resembling a spiderweb.
In shock, he suddenly saw a crimson spear piercing toward him, engulfed in fierce flames. Behind the spear was Freya's unusually cold face.
"Final Chapter - Explosive Blade!"
With a 'thud! crack!', the ice layer that had held for so long finally shattered completely, and the dark Cross Sword pierced through his chest, exposing itself from his back.
'Bang!'
Mersais, still alive but lying on the ground, coughed up blood in large amounts. His gaze was filled with intense disbelief.
Freya stood nearby, watching the young wizard, who was probably not yet eighteen, with an expressionless face.
The signs of life slowly faded from his eyes.
As he completely died, without the continuous support of spiritual power, the Abyssal Creature and Ice Spike that were still battling the vines in the distance also gradually dissipated.
Once his breathing ceased entirely, Freya swiftly drew the Cross Sword from his chest with a soft sound.
With a gentle snap of her fingers, a wisp of Purple Flame quickly engulfed the body.
...
On a high slope on the other side of the forest, Countess and Felix looked on with deep awe at the thick smoke rising and the violent sounds of explosions.
After a long while, when the noise and smoke finally cleared, they turned back completely.
"Is this the true power of a wizard?" Felix murmured softly as he sheathed his two tightly gripped Scimitars.
He had sensed that power when Freya first arrived, but compared to her restraint then, her exposed strength now made him acutely aware of the pressure it exerted.
This kind of power no longer cared about worldly authority or armies.
Hearing Felix's murmurs, Countess remained silent, only tightening her fists with a hint of inexplicable regret in her eyes.
As they pondered over which wizard would prevail, from the shadows of the forest, Freya, clad in a White Robe, slowly emerged.
Just as before, there was no change, except that there was an additional item in hand, the head of Mersais.
Seeing the head in hand, the two took a light breath.
It should be noted that not long ago, the owner of this head had directly used witchcraft twice, causing most of the Cavalry to meet their demise. Now, this terrifying existence actually...
The Countess pursed her lips and quickly stepped forward respectfully.
"Lady Freya."
Ignoring her, Freya tossed the head toward the Countess.
Once the Countess instinctively caught it, Freya spoke.
"Alright, our exchange is now complete. Have you gathered what I instructed you to?"
"Of course, of course." Glancing at the familiar face of the head in her hand, the Countess nodded and quickly pulled out a bottle from her chest to hand to Freya.
"Mm." Nodding lightly.
Freya took the bottle, confirmed its contents, and then said, "I still have some matters to attend to. You all can leave first; there's no need to wait for me."
"Yes, my lady." After bowing respectfully again, the Countess waved her hand to signal everyone to withdraw.
Now that the only witch of the Teltia Family was dead, it was time to settle accounts.
Standing in place, Freya watched as the Countess and the others slowly retreated from the forest. She then turned and walked in another direction.
Thirty minutes later.
In the lush green forest, on a winding yellow path, Freya was walking slowly.
She held a crooked map in her hand, which marked special locations nearby. At one specific spot, there was a red mark, accompanied by a line of letters.
"Relte Ruins."
This was the ruins that Rand had mentioned, abandoned for many years.
According to the information, this ruin had long been excavated, but due to its unique environment, it might still harbor some special resources within.
In this barren place, an injured wizard seeking to heal their severe wounds would surely think of this location.
After some probing, Freya finally confirmed that the Necromancer had similar intentions.
From her investigations and combining them with the map purchased from the Mercenary Guild, she noted that not far from these ruins was a base of the Blackwing Wind Mercenaries.
Usually, Franksthanbi, who went by the alias Belster, could often be found at this base.
Putting away the map, Freya took out a vial she received from the Countess.
Inside was not anything else but some brown hair strands. Clearly, the owner of this hair was the person Freya was looking for.
Gently removing the cork, she pinched out a strand of hair and sniffed it at her nose.
A peculiar scent made Freya frown slightly.
After thinking for a moment, she took out a line of golden powder from her pouch and sprinkled it on.
With a hiss, the hair seemed to meet flames, rapidly twisting, darkening, and evaporating under the effect of the golden powder.
"Indeed, it is a puppet of Necromancy."
Now that she thought about that strange battle back then, Belster's appearance seemed normal at first glance, but there was always something odd about his movements.
Moreover, his exterior did not match at all with what he displayed.
In hindsight, if it involved Necromancy or another type of possession spell, then everything made sense.
Taking down a Newly Advanced Wizard was not a significant drain on Freya at this point.
Even though she had used several spells, it did not feel like a loss compared to her mental capacity.
Although the battle between the two was intense, it was merely an appearance.
Aside from Mersais' decent Defensive Spell, the other two First-Level Spells had not been improved at all, resulting in significant mental energy consumption and insufficient power.
For Freya, a melee speed-type wizard, aside from the previous Abyssal Creature that could affect her somewhat, there was not much difference with the rest.
Without those three First-Level Spells, Mersais was at most just a slightly stronger Third-Rank Apprentice.
For an apprentice, Freya had several ways to easily slay him.
Using swordsmanship to resolve the situation was merely a way to reduce mental energy consumption and shorten the duration of the battle.
After confirming the properties of the hair in her hand, she pulled out all the hair inside and then glanced toward the trees by the roadside.
After a while, she suddenly reached out and grabbed a spot in a thicket, and a faint blue transparent ripple flashed from there.
Then a Gray Long-Eared Rabbit was pulled out from behind the bushes by a transparent blue hand.
Controlling the Wizard's Hand to bring the rabbit closer, she pinched its mouth and then stuffed all the remaining hair into it. (To be continued)
