Freya's mind momentarily blanked out at the sound.
"Ugh..."
Instinctively covering her head, she hazily saw that the entire large stone room was filled with identical girls.
They reached out with pale hands, trying to grab her.
A strong, cold aura pressed in from all directions, like black, icy tentacles caressing her body.
"Damn it!!"
Freya, holding her head, suddenly swung her hand.
An invisible, twisting force field erupted from her!
'Sizzle!'
A faint sound swept through. The strange girls melted away like summer snow.
In no time, the entire Stone House returned to silence, as if nothing had happened.
Freya slowly lowered her hand from her head. Her gaze was somewhat cold.
The air still felt distorted from the lingering mental field that had not completely dissipated.
"Wait, a normal spirit wouldn't have this kind of ability; something must be interfering with it!"
To affect the mind of an official wizard is already close to the level of a wraith.
She did not withdraw her hand.
Freya's complex gaze followed the pair of feet upward.
It was a girl dressed in a Noble Style Princess Dress, her face pale without a trace of color, her wide eyes completely black, barefoot and smiling at her, seemingly filled with hope.
If it weren't for the unusually cold and eerie feeling, this girl appeared to be no different from an ordinary living person.
Moreover, her expression seemed different from that of a typical unconscious Spirit.
After thinking for a moment, Freya suddenly smiled. "Hey there, what's your name? Tell your sister so she can play with you."
"Name?" Upon hearing Freya's question, the girl paused slightly, then surprisingly showed a thoughtful expression.
'It seems she might have the ability to think.' Seeing the girl's reaction, Freya felt she had guessed correctly.
If she hadn't advanced to become a wizard, she might have been wary of such an ordinary Spirit, but now she was not.
The powerful Mental Field surrounding the Official Wizard inherently had a strong corrosive effect on Spirits, and Positive Energy Spells could directly harm them as well.
After all, Spirits are merely the essence of a person's spirit after death, and they come in various types.
The one in front of her seemed to be the most ordinary type of Spirit, not one with strong malevolence like a Wraith.
Watching the Spirit standing on the bookshelf trying hard to think, Freya was not in a hurry and continued to open the previous Data Box.
However, just as she was about to open it, another pair of delicate white feet suddenly appeared in front of her out of nowhere.
"Sister, can you play with me?"
The same voice, the same tone.
This made Freya pause slightly. She looked up towards the source of the voice and found that it was still that girl.
The same outfit and face, along with hopeful eyes.
On the other side, the Spirit girl was still wearing a cute expression as she pondered hard.
"What is this..." she frowned slightly, feeling that something was off.
A gentle cool breeze blew through the Wind Element passage, causing the Purple Flame above her head to flicker slightly.
A chill slowly enveloped her heart.
"Sister, can you play with me?"
Suddenly, another identical voice came from behind her.
Freya slowly turned around to find two more identical girls, their hopeful gazes fixed on her.
This made Freya instinctively take two steps back, frowning at this bizarre situation.
'There are no malicious intentions; they are indeed just ordinary, but... could it be because of me?'
As she pondered, the same voice suddenly erupted again, but this time it was a chorus. It sounded like many childish voices overlapping.
"Sister, can you play with me~"
The clear children's voices grew longer and longer until they merged into a piercingly strange laughter, filled with giggles.
"Snap."
After the crisp sound, six clusters of Purple Flame were split apart. Instantly, the Stone House became bright.
With the light brought by the purple hue, Freya scanned her surroundings. A faint Azure Rune flickered in her eyes.
The Force Field generated by the Empowerment Spell explored throughout the entire Stone House.
It wasn't long before Freya paused. Then she walked straight towards the last bookshelf.
She reached out and gently brushed her hand over the bookshelf, and a green light flashed.
The wooden bookshelf slowly moved aside, revealing what lay beneath.
It was a patch of grayish-white marks, different from the surrounding bluestone slabs, as if it had been added later.
Seeing this, Freya's eyes brightened slightly.
In her view, a distinct black Tentacle-like aura of malevolence emanated from around this mark.
"Sure enough, there's something!"
Thinking this, she slowly placed her hand over the mark.
A fine buzzing sound gradually emitted from her hand, and then Freya suddenly exerted force.
"Crack!"
With a crisp sound, the mark suddenly cracked open with a dense web of fissures that quickly spread.
Before long, a pitch-black void appeared.
A faint, decaying odor mixed with black smoke wafted out from the void.
Freya squinted her eyes, allowing the Negative Energy to brush against her cheeks.
Inside that void, suddenly, there lay a skeletal figure.
From its height and tattered clothing, it looked almost identical to the girl she had seen earlier.
The skeleton was lying on its back, with its hands crossed, and its head and spine twisted unnaturally, clearly indicating an unnatural death.
What caught Freya's attention was that a Black Slim Key was placed between the skeleton's hands.
Faintly visible runes could be seen in the middle of the key, emanating a subtle aura of Negative Energy and malevolence.
"This must be what changes the nature of an ordinary Spirit," she murmured softly.
However, just as Freya attempted to pull out the key, her wrist suddenly felt cold, as if an invisible hand had grasped it.
"Are you trying to protect this?" Freya's gaze fixed on her wrist as she frowned slightly. Her voice turned icy. "This thing is not for you to touch; I am freeing you!"
With a hiss, Freya forcefully broke free from the chill and yanked the key out from the skeletal arm.
As she pulled out the key, a faint voice echoed from within the bones.
"Sister. No..."
This is the voice of that girl, but it gradually fades away until it completely disappears.
Not paying attention to this faint sound, Freya held the Black Key in her hand, lost in thought.
"Besides being able to change the nature of a Spirit, does it also have the power to condense Spirits?"
The black key felt unusually cold, and a sense of malevolence twisted around it like worms, giving the impression of being alive in her grasp.
She speculated about the origins of this strange key in her mind.
Suddenly, she seemed to sense something and abruptly raised her head.
Her mind felt a bit hazy, similar to earlier, but much lighter this time.
In her line of sight, she suddenly noticed that the girl she had seen before was crouching in front of her.
However, she was gradually becoming translucent, as if she were about to vanish.
"I... can look directly at Spirits now?" She blinked in shock.
Although she had always been able to sense the location of Spirits and attract their attention due to her own constitution, she had never seen them so clearly before.
As if she understood something, she lowered her gaze to the key in her hand and then gently released her grip.
The girl in front of her vanished into thin air, and when she grasped the key again, the girl reappeared.
This magical scene piqued her curiosity immensely.
And the source of this newfound ability to see clearly was the key in her hand.
However, just as Freya was conducting her third experiment, the translucent girl completely vanished, being just an ordinary Spirit. It was only because of the condensation of this key that she could exist for so long; otherwise, she would have likely disappeared upon death.
Calmly gazing at the spot where the girl had disappeared, she then placed the key into her Robe.
Half an hour later.
Freya walked out of the Passageway alone.
Squinting at the light outside, she saw a tall soldier in Silver Armor standing at the entrance of the basement.
Upon seeing Freya emerge, he quickly approached and respectfully said, "Lady Freya. I am Jace, the guard assigned by the Lord of the City to protect you. If you have any requests, feel free to tell me."
"Oh, is that so?" She glanced at the soldier and nodded lightly. "Thank you for your service. Please take me to the Lord of the City."
"Of course, milady." Jace bowed and then walked ahead to lead the way.
The castle of Raymond City was large and magnificent, with a certain historical background, belonging to the Angelia Family passed down through generations.
It was said that the Countess's family once belonged to the Elk Wizard Family, but due to declining Bloodline relations, they chose to develop in this resource-poor ordinary city.
As they walked along, all the attendants and servants they encountered greeted Jace respectfully, indicating his high status here.
However, they cast curious glances at Freya behind him.
But Freya did not mind.
To ordinary people, as long as it did not involve higher realms, she would not care.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have suddenly arrived here.
No matter how powerful the mortal forces are, they won't have much influence on wizards.
In some darker Wizarding Areas, ordinary city dwellers work tirelessly to serve the wizards, and they have no freedom at all.
In this regard, Freya can be considered relatively merciful.
'Now that I have a general direction, I can slowly investigate one by one. If nothing unexpected happens, that guy shouldn't be too far from this city. However, this key...'
She faintly sensed that this item might be able to resolve her own physical issues. Moreover, what intrigued her more was that the appearance of the key clearly indicated that it was not just one.
'Perhaps I can learn something from that Countess.'
After all, the Countess was once an Apprentice Wizard.
Fifteen minutes later.
In the luxurious living room, the Countess sat elegantly on the sofa in her noblewoman's attire, with exquisite snacks and strong tea laid out on the table.
However, the tea seemed to have cooled considerably, indicating that she had been waiting for quite some time. (To be continued)
