"Clang!!!"
The Fangs of Face and the great sword erupted with a tremendous metallic clash.
The Great Knight, having activated all his energy, suddenly let out a low growl. This time, the burning great sword easily cleaved through the old Face.
However, at the moment he struck, the Face suddenly disintegrated, transforming into a cloud of Black Smoke that enveloped the Great Knight's face.
"Hisssss"
The nauseating sound of corrosion immediately followed, and in no time, the Great Knight's face had completely turned into a blood skeleton, with even some of the bones corroded by the smoke.
"Bang"
He fell backward.
James and the apprentice who had cast the spell both turned pale upon seeing one of the Great Knights taken down. Clearly, the consumption of this powerful Spell was not trivial.
With one of the main three defenders suddenly gone, Thomas and the other apprentices from their organization immediately intensified their harassment.
Meanwhile, Freya, hiding in the bushes, noticed that the battle was nearing its end but her expression gradually became calm.
Just now, what James and his companion unleashed was a Necromancy Spell that seemed powerful; however, as long as one understood some basic principles of the Necromancy Department, they wouldn't recklessly charge in with swords drawn.
It is important to know that the power of a Spell is proportional to the consumption of mental energy. If it drags on for two or three minutes, that Spell would disintegrate on its own and would not unleash its intended power.
Thus, the Great Knight fell victim to his own lack of understanding.
"Crack!"
Another Intermediate Knight was caught by Thomas in his Giant Hand. With a firm squeeze and smash, he was utterly eliminated.
Now, the Newly Advanced Wizard was left with only him and another person clad in heavy armor, the Great Knight.
However, James was also in a poor state, having been severely injured by the Newly Advanced Wizard's earlier outburst, lying behind everyone with a pale face, looking half-dead.
As he watched the remaining three Apprentice Wizards slowly approach, the Newly Advanced Wizard surveyed the bloody scene around him. Despite having the Empowerment Spell and the mental strength of an Official Wizard, the situation was heavily laced with conspiracy. He had no idea what he might encounter if he managed to break through.
He cast a deep glance at the nearby Great Knight, his face suddenly revealing a hint of determination.
"Wait, don't you want the resources inside this carriage? I can disable the defenses on it. Just let her go, how about it?"
"Oh? Her?" James, who was secretly preparing to cast a spell, paused slightly. He turned to look at the Great Knight, who resembled a silver tin can, tilting his head slightly.
He was aware of the Force Field defense on the carriage and had originally planned to take down the Newly Advanced Wizard before disabling it. He didn't expect the other party to offer a condition outright.
Perhaps noticing James's response, the Newly Advanced Wizard directly tempted him.
"That's right! How about it? Just let her go! You will gain a full cart of resources. Although there is no blood from a Walker Giant, there are materials for advancing to Official Wizard. You are still a Third-Rank Apprentice, so I imagine you are in need of these!"
"No! Andy, you can't do this!" The Great Knight, who had been fighting silently beside him, suddenly lifted her helmet, revealing a beautiful face filled with anxiety.
"If they let me go, what will you do? Weren't we good before? Am I not supposed to be your knight for life!? Have you forgotten!? Besides, my brother was just killed by them. Do you think if I leave now, I won't come back for revenge?"
Ignoring the knight's words, he fixed his gaze on James, waiting for a response.
After thinking for a moment, James lowered his hands slightly and smiled. "Alright. Since you've put it that way, I can let her go. But first, you need to give me control of the defense's Controller. What do you say?"
"Deal!" The Newly Advanced Wizard replied without hesitation. "However, I need to confirm that she leaves completely, and you must swear in your family's name!"
"Okay! I swear in the name of my Campbell Family!!" James said solemnly, then signaled for Thomas and the other two to also make their oaths.
Freya looked speechlessly at the performance of the three.
Although vows in this world sometimes hold true, if the vow is inherently false, then it is another matter.
Watching the three solemnly swear, the Newly Advanced Wizard let out a gentle sigh, turned to look at his tearful companion, and reached out to lightly touch the Great Knight's cheek, revealing a hint of a tender smile.
"Let's go, Soyana. Don't seek revenge for me, don't cry. Find someone and live well."
James and the others instinctively made way.
Understanding the determination of Andy, the Newly Advanced Wizard, Soyana nodded vigorously, wiped her tears from her face, and said earnestly, "I won't look for anyone else. I am your wife now and will be your widow in the future!"
Hearing Soyana's words, Andy took out a clever doll-faced talisman from his waist and smiled lightly.
"Go on, take this to my father and tell him that his son is alive and pursuing truth far away."
"Okay!"
After putting her helmet back on, Soyana grasped the talisman tightly, gave Andy a deep look, and then walked straight down the path that had been cleared.
Watching her companion walk further away, Andy faithfully tossed a black stick-like object to James.
With a snap, James caught it and examined the item in his hand, revealing a slight smile.
"Hehe, it's indeed a Controller. Then Thomas!"
Suddenly, he turned and shouted loudly at Thomas beside him.
As he shouted, the tall Thomas suddenly plunged his hand into the ground with a fierce expression.
"Boom!!"
In the distance, a faint rumble echoed, accompanied by a barely audible female scream.
"You guys!!!!"
Hearing the familiar voice, Andy's eyes turned red as he pointed a finger at James.
"Thud."
The black stick in James's hand immediately erupted with a mass of thick black substance, rapidly covering his arm at an astonishing speed.
"What!?"
As the viscous substance enveloped his arm, it ignited into black flames. This sudden change stunned James, followed by endless agony.
"Swish!"
Two silver flashes passed by as Thomas swiftly drew a dagger from behind and cut off the affected arm, then applied a layer of green ointment to the severed stump.
The severed arm fell to the ground and soon turned to ashes.
"Hiss."
White smoke rose from James's severed arm, but thanks to the powerful hemostatic ointment, no blood flowed out. However, his face turned pale and twisted for a while before settling into an extremely grimace.
"You actually deceived me!!"
He stared fiercely at the red-eyed Andy, both of them exuding a strong killing intent.
"That woman of yours is not dead! Even if she were, I would find a way to lock her soul away! Because I will dedicate my entire life to taking care of her!"
The venomous tone prompted Andy to swing the black sand in his hand, shattering a slender Test Tube.
The black sand twisted in the air, transforming into a pitch-black short gun aimed at the disarmed James, but it was promptly blocked by a thick wall made of earth that Thomas had conjured.
However, the liquid from the Test Tube slowly evaporated in the air, forming a humanoid creature with a black bird's head, holding two elongated Stilettos made of smoke.
"This level of Elemental Creature..." Seeing the Strange Creature appear, James displayed a serious expression.
The humanoid creature did not give him time to think and charged directly at the relatively weaker Third-Rank Apprentice from another organization.
The black smoke seemed weightless, reaching the apprentice in an instant, with the two Stilettos thrusting out at an angle.
'Clink clink'
Two crisp sounds rang out in front of the apprentice as if something defensive had been pierced.
Although he was unharmed, the apprentice turned pale with fright and immediately shouted towards James and the others.
"Don't forget our agreement, James! If I die here, my mentor will take revenge for me! And your family won't let you off either!"
Hearing the plea for help, James shot him a dark glance and used his remaining arm to pull out a fist-sized red eyeball from his waist. After chanting a few words, he threw it directly.
The eyeball expanded with a bang in mid-air, transforming into a massive entity that lunged at the Elemental Creature.
Countless black tentacles covered in slime extended from around the pupil of the eyeball, dripping liquid onto the ground and immediately emitting a hissing corrosive sound.
Two summoned creatures were entangled with each other, also freeing the apprentice who had just fallen into danger.
"Krol, don't forget what you promised me before! And the thing I fear the least is the threats from others!"
Glancing at the apprentice, James showed a hint of disdain in his eyes. If it weren't for his mentor and family connections, he wouldn't even bother competing for resources with this useless person.
In his view, these guys were even weaker than a few he had recruited at the academy.
Hearing James's subtle sarcasm, the apprentice named Krol remained silent and quickly ran behind them.
Not interested in dealing with this guy, James turned to Thomas.
"Thomas, are you ready? We need to use that to resolve this in one go; the longer we drag it out, the worse it will be for us!"
"Absolutely! Everything is set," Thomas nodded lightly.
He quickly moved in front of the two and pushed his hands together, causing a thick wall to rise rapidly.
On the opposite side, Andy saw their actions and raised his hands as well, simultaneously chanting long spells.
A strange atmosphere slowly began to rise between both sides. (To be continued)
