"Get lost! You lunatic!"
Another voice accompanied by a strong scent of burning came through.
Boom!
The rapidly surging red heat in the distance made Freya's expression change slightly. Without a second thought, she jumped up to a large tree.
There was no time to cast a spell; she could only simply suppress her presence.
Just as Freya concealed herself, two figures came rushing from afar, one chasing and the other fleeing.
The one running wore a red robe, with a red arrow emblem on the front, while the one pursuing was dressed in black, without any insignia to indicate their identity.
"Useless! We've fought for so long, and you think I don't know your tricks? Come on, it's been long enough; let's make it fair now, one-on-one to the death! What do you say?"
The figure in black shouted loudly from behind, but their speed always lagged behind that of the red-robed figure.
"One-on-one fair? You think you're being fair with that thing in your hand?!"
Seemingly enraged by the words of the figure in black, the red-robed individual turned around and swung their hand to unleash a giant fireball.
The fireball quickly expanded in the air and soon transformed into a giant made of flames without facial features, fiercely crashing down towards the figure in black!
Bang!
Sparks flew as the seemingly powerful Flame Giant was shattered by a bolt of Blue Lightning, failing to even break through the defense of the figure in the black robe.
At this moment, Freya perched in the tree vaguely saw that the pursuing figure in the black robe was holding a Silver Short Staff. The staff flickered with countless Blue Lightning bolts, and it seemed to be slowly gathering energy, with a lightning-shaped rune gradually forming at its tip.
Before long, a streak of blue lightning shot out but was blocked by the Red Robe. However, compared to the ease with which the black robe handled it, the Red Robe appeared to exert much more effort.
Both individuals seemed to have enhanced their speed with some kind of Spell; even from her high vantage point, Freya could feel the turbulence of Energy Particles in the air, a phenomenon caused by powerful Spells.
As the two sped past the large tree where Freya was hiding, she instinctively held her breath. The two Spells they had casually unleashed could have severely injured her. If discovered, the consequences would be dire.
Perhaps both were too focused on each other to notice Freya hiding; they swiftly passed by without realizing her presence.
After a long while, as Freya sensed their formidable auras fading into the distance, she slowly descended from the tree.
She looked around; everywhere were traces of rampant electricity and flames, which were extremely frightening.
"Neither of those two is part of our caravan, and that emblem on the chest of the Red Robe is the mark of Felret's Arrow. I didn't expect information about this caravan to reach there," Freya thought deeply as she gazed in the direction they had left.
Felret's Arrow is located in Elgreen Academy in the South, a Medium Wizard Organization separated from them by a large kingdom. It was surprising that people from Hurricane Fortress had managed to relay information there. Moreover, Freya recognized that the Red Robe was indeed the one who had crushed her Reconnaissance Seed.
However, while she recognized the identity of that Red-Robed Wizard, she knew nothing about the figure in black who bore no insignia.
Of course, from their conversation, it was clear that these two were acquainted and possibly old rivals. It was also possible that the black robe had come specifically targeting the Red Robe.
"According to James, information dissemination does not exceed three parties. Now that we know one Red Robe has been entangled, it is likely that at least one other force is aware of Hurricane Fortress's resource caravan information."
Freya glanced at the lonely white carriage in the distance, and after a moment of thought, she decided to approach it.
Her grip on the Cross Sword tightened. When she was about ten meters away from the carriage, Freya stopped. She reached for her waist and pulled out a Black Dagger.
At the same time, she began to chant an incantation, and a faint purple flame quickly enveloped the dagger.
Whoosh!
The Black Dagger shot out.
However, just as the dagger was about to hit the carriage, a pitch-black translucent Barrier suddenly appeared, easily blocking the dagger.
It seemed that Freya, standing at a distance, had already anticipated this; her right hand suddenly opened wide.
Boom!!
The Purple Flame erupted within the Barrier!
Yet, that Ashfire, capable of melting steel, had no effect on the Barrier other than instantly incinerating the surrounding grass.
This made Freya narrow her eyes.
“Indeed, it’s not that simple. This defensive Force Field is constructed rather than inscribed; it feels like Cursed Items. Someone must be controlling this thing.”
Immediately, Freya recalled the arrogant young man she had seen earlier with the Reconnaissance Seed. From the energy fluctuations emanating from him, he must be the Lamb destined for slaughter this time.
She just didn't know where that person was now.
Although guarding the carriage seemed good, it could attract more troublemakers, and it was very likely she would encounter the Red-Robed Wizard.
After thinking for a moment, Freya plunged a Black Dagger into a nearby tree and then turned to run in the opposite direction from those two.
There were three carriages; she didn't need to put herself in danger for just one of them.
From the direction where the two had fought, it was clear that this carriage had already been targeted by the previous Red-Robed Wizard.
Even if the Black-Robed Wizard killed the Red Robe, it was unlikely that she would be involved.
Moreover, there was that impenetrable dark Force Field.
So, the best course of action was to make a mark first. If something unexpected happened, she could rush over in time.
In the seemingly tranquil forest, sounds of fierce fighting occasionally broke the silence.
The heavy scent of blood filled the air, which posed a strong danger to the beasts in the forest, making them avoid it at all costs.
Freya's gray figure darted through the trees, and her Cross Sword had already been stained with a bit of red blood.
That was from an Intermediate Knight who had inadvertently crossed her path while fleeing to protect resources.
From the mouth of that knight, who was now a corpse, she obtained clues about another carriage and was now hurrying toward it.
"Boom!"
A loud sound erupted from the bushes on one side, followed by the clashing of metal.
This caused Freya, who had been running at full speed, to immediately slow down.
"Don't let him escape! Stop him! Don't forget our previous agreement!"
Suddenly, a familiar voice reached her ears, causing Freya to pause slightly, as she recognized the owner of that voice and remembered their earlier conversation.
Quietly lurking in the bushes, Freya pushed aside the obstructing weeds.
Two Great Knights and two Intermediate Knights were protecting a young man in a red Noble Attire as they attempted to break through.
Surrounding them were five Apprentice Wizards dressed in Gray Robes. One ordinary-looking apprentice was pulling out a pouch of Black Powder from his waist and scattering it into the air. In an instant, he summoned a swarm of Black Wasps, directing them to attack the young man in the Noble Attire.
However, as soon as the wasps approached, the young man spread his fingers and chanted an intricate spell. A wave of black flames quickly consumed the wasps entirely.
At that moment, a tall Apprentice Wizard with dark skin let out a fierce roar.
The soil and decaying leaves on the ground rapidly covered his right hand, and before long, a Giant Earth Arm formed, nearly matching his own height, and then it slammed down towards one of the Intermediate Knights on the side.
"Bang!"
The violent clash of the Sharp Blade sent dirt flying everywhere.
During the tense standoff between the two parties, a Great Knight seized the opportunity to draw his sword and strike.
The massive arm made of earth collapsed directly.
Hiding in the bushes, Freya quietly watched the ruthless attacks from both sides, narrowing her eyes slightly.
"Sure enough, it's James and Thomas. They even managed to connect with other apprentices from the Wizard Organization."
According to what James had said earlier, whoever first spotted the carriage was supposed to notify the others immediately. But now it seemed that both of them intended to act alone, which indicated that their thoughts were similar to hers.
Although the six of them were apprentices from the same academy, each had their own agenda.
What Freya didn't expect was that besides connecting with each other, James and Thomas had also reached out to others outside.
"Heh heh, no wonder they are Apprentice Wizards; not a single fool among them. Although this means fewer resources will be shared, their safety has significantly increased."
Concealed in the grass, Freya was confident that with her abilities, no one could detect her as long as she didn't reveal herself.
Now she was just waiting quietly for the outcome of the battle.
Although Thomas's group was equal in number to that of the Newly Advanced Wizard, in terms of strength, Thomas's side was somewhat stronger.
After all, no matter how impressive that young man was, he had only recently advanced to wizard status. His accumulation of spells and tricks as an Official Wizard was still too limited. At this moment, aside from the two Great Knights being somewhat useful, the remaining two Intermediate Knights were hardly a match.
Taking advantage of the distraction caused by Thomas and James drawing most of the attention, two other apprentices from the Wizard Organization suddenly pointed at the ground in unison. Two energy-formed Black Serpents vanished into the grass.
"Hiss"
A snake, as thick as two fingers, suddenly bit the leg of an Intermediate Knight who was blocking an attack.
The corrosive effect of Negative Energy caused him to kneel instantly, his leg turning pitch black, and then he was smashed into a bloody pulp by Thomas using a reformed Giant Hand made of earth.
The breach in defense caused some panic among the Newly Advanced Wizard and others. Thomas and another unfamiliar apprentice quickly began chanting spells.
A faint stench began to spread as a massive old Face formed from black smoke slowly emerged.
As soon as this old Face appeared, it immediately opened its Big Mouth, filled with Fangs, and lunged at the back of one Great Knight.
Perhaps sensing the danger behind him, the Great Knight's heightened instincts became frenzied, and he swung his great sword backward as if it were ablaze. (To be continued)
