After the raging sandstorm, Freya held Saradin tightly, frowning slightly as she glanced at her arm. The outer layer of her clothing had been completely corroded, revealing the red bracers underneath, though the faint red glow on them was slowly dimming. Fortunately, her skin remained unharmed.
Aside from her clothing, a massive pit appeared where Saradin had been standing, along with half of a metallic longsword.
'If I hadn't prudently worn the Raging Mountain Bear soft armor with better Spell resistance this time, my arm would have been useless!'
Freya took a deep look at the pit. Regardless of the hidden enemy, she immediately erupted with energy and sprinted back in the direction she had come from.
The last person's invisibility Spell not only allowed them to hide but also evade most of her presence. Additionally, there were those annoying Cursed Items. Normally, she could have looked for an opportunity to eliminate them, but now was not the time for her to linger!
The longer she delayed, the greater the danger! Although the trap had been neutralized, Saradin had completely lost consciousness. Now, all she could do was leave quickly and find a safe place to hide or wait for Saradin to wake up.
As she ran, strong gusts of wind kicked up large clouds of sand behind her. Despite carrying another person, Freya's current physical condition allowed her to manage for a short time without much issue; however, prolonged exertion would start to take its toll.
Moreover, Freya was confident that with her speed, that Third-Rank Wizard Apprentice wouldn't be able to catch up without some special means.
As time passed while running, Freya began to feel a gradual ache in her arms, especially in the one struck by that acidic orb.
However, in the distance, she could already faintly see signs of green; she was nearing the edge of this area.
“No!!! You can’t escape!!!”
Just as she was about to leave, a deep voice suddenly erupted from the edge of the yellow sands!
The swirling yellow sand rose up as if manipulated by an invisible hand, coalescing into a massive bald yellow figure.
The figure's upper body was bare while its lower half was composed of a vast expanse of yellow sand.
“Is it a wizard's avatar?!” Seeing the enormous figure made of yellow sand, Freya flipped Saradin onto her back with one hand and immediately shot several Black Daggers from her other hand.
'Thud' 'Thud' 'Thud'
The purple light of the Black Daggers flashed and completely vanished into the yellow sand; however, the purple flames only produced a few muffled sounds before falling silent.
The mental power was repelled by the Magic Circle trap, causing not only the consumption of each spell to double but also strongly inhibiting the recovery of mental power.
"If it weren't for this Magic Circle, I could completely use that to restore my state..." A resolute look appeared in Saradin's eyes, but deep down, she felt an immense regret.
At her age, she no longer valued life in the same way. After holding out in the base for decades, it was merely for the promise she made when she was young. Now, with the shadow of death looming over her, her only concern was what would happen to the children in the base if she died.
She had permanently lost her qualifications as a mother, but she did not want those children she had raised to be eradicated by the Blue Eagle Nest because of her absence.
A faint green halo gradually enveloped her body, and a strong sense of danger emanated from her, causing the three who had been using Cursed Items together to feel a slight chill.
"What should we do? Should we retreat first?" The man on the far left asked as he watched the green halo rise steadily.
"No! This is our only chance to completely kill this woman. The teacher has been watching us from behind, and even if she can use powerful spells, with her current mental power, she poses no threat to us! Jessica, have you forgotten how she killed your younger brother?" The questioning tone made the man on the far left lower his head deeply.
"That's right, Lysent is correct." Seeing his companion's hesitation, the man on the far right continued. "Moreover, with what the teacher has given us, we can definitely blow open her shell before she uses any witchcraft! She still has a guardian spirit left; she won't be able to withstand even one round of our attacks!"
At this point, all three knew they were in the final stage. They had exhausted a significant amount of personnel and military resources to force Saradin into this position. If they gave up now, they probably wouldn't be able to forgive themselves.
"Alright." The man on the left nodded heavily. "Since that's the case, let's go!"
Without further reply, the other two also nodded firmly.
The Black Crow circling in the air let out an unpleasant cawing sound. Suddenly, as if receiving some kind of command, the flock changed direction mid-flight and dove straight toward Saradin's position.
The chaotic flapping of wings gradually became synchronized as a large mass of black crows slowly formed into a gigantic crow shape.
In its crimson eyes spun a Hexagram Magic Circle, radiating an astonishing energy aura.
As darkness enveloped the sky, Saradin felt an unexpected calmness. Her body, which had been drained of energy, slowly stood up. The glowing green Energy Particles surrounding her were her last resort and also her final dignity as a witch.
She gazed steadily at the three Apprentice Wizards not far away. Just as she was about to extend her hands to release something...
"Swish!"
A faint sound suddenly rang out.
In the invisible air, a distortion occurred, and three black beams of light appeared behind the three individuals like cannonballs.
"Boom!!!!"
A tremendous roar mixed with scorching purple flames surged upward!
"Crackle"
The massive black crow disintegrated without any mental guidance, turning into a cloud of black smoke right in front of Saradin.
Yellow dust was stirred up by the intense force.
Under this wind pressure, Saradin's green robe rustled, while she stared in confusion at the three dazzling flames and the red figure behind them.
Freya, wielding dual swords, slowly approached from a distance. Her steps were slow but cautious.
As she shot out three daggers, the thin energy force field around her trembled slightly. An angry emotion mixed with mental power directed itself entirely at her.
"It seems to be the trap set by the Official Wizard!"
However, according to Freya's senses, the owner of this emotion was far away. Aside from using weakened long-range magic against her, their main body couldn't arrive in a short time.
"You've come..." Seeing Freya's figure fully revealed, Saradin felt an indescribable sensation; her previously strained body suddenly softened, and she sat down on the ground.
Without responding to Saradin's words, Freya gently nodded at her but focused her gaze on the fading Purple Flame.
There, a strong smell of burning wafted through the air, yet there was still a hint of life lingering.
As the flames gradually dissipated, two charred corpses lay there. The wind blew past, sweeping away some of the black ash.
"Only two people. And one rat!" Her gaze swept around continuously as she tightened her grip on her dual swords.
Earlier, from a distance, she had vaguely gauged the strength of the three individuals during the ambush; they were essentially on par with her, all being at the peak of Third Rank Apprentices.
However, even though they were all Third Rank Apprentices, without having become Official Wizards and possessing their own Defensive Spells, their inherent vulnerability was comparable to that of an ordinary Knight Level.
For Freya, this was hardly a concern. Of course, she never expected that one of the three would actually evade her attack.
"The melting point of Ashfire is very high; even ordinary armor and shields can be easily melted. Moreover, I had deliberately compressed and optimized it. It seems that person has some defensive Cursed Items on them."
As she analyzed this, she cautiously moved closer to Saradin's position.
At this moment, the only Green Sprite on Saradin was flickering in and out of visibility, close to collapsing. Saradin herself was nearly in a state of unconsciousness due to severe mental exhaustion. If this were an ordinary person, they could have become a fool from such strain. Now, Saradin had held on for so long; besides her inherent wizard constitution, there must have been some belief sustaining her.
Although Freya could not see the survivor in her line of sight, she could clearly sense that he was still within this area, waiting for an opportunity.
Suddenly, behind her, a row of clear footprints appeared in the sand, slowly advancing toward her.
In the intangible air, a transparent figure faintly emerged, yet Freya seemed oblivious as she continued to face away from him.
"Swish."
As the distance closed, a slight sound accompanied a long Black Spike that suddenly lunged toward Freya's back.
"Clang!!"
Just as the spike was about to make contact, a Cross Sword abruptly appeared in front of it, easily blocking the attack without her turning around. Freya's gaze turned cold as she swiftly thrust another Cross Sword backward.
"How is this possible!"
"Thud."
A small crimson mark appeared at the Sword Tip. In that moment of shock from the individual, Freya suddenly kicked out with one leg.
"Bang!"
A distortion appeared in the air, and a figure dressed in a Gray Robe suddenly emerged, flying backward before crashing into the sandy ground.
However, in an instant, he quickly got back up as if nothing had happened, uttering a single word. He pressed his hand against his chest, and the entire person vanished completely.
"What a troublesome fellow," Freya frowned slightly, her figure that was about to rush over came to a halt.
This ability to quickly become invisible was not due to Cursed Items but rather optimized sorcery.
Moreover, the Cursed Items he possessed had considerable defensive power; even with Freya's current strength, she could not penetrate through him but only managed to graze him, which was telling enough.
‘Bang’
The last Green Sprite surrounding Saradin let out a mournful cry before vanishing completely. Saradin's body was now fully exposed to danger, and she seemed to have lost consciousness entirely.
‘Ding…’
As Saradin's Empowerment Spell dissipated, Freya suddenly felt the entire area contract sharply, and the sand beneath her feet began to flow slowly.
‘Is this… the Magic Circle being broken?’
Feeling the changes in the area, Freya's expression turned slightly cold; the trap set for Saradin had been completely broken. This meant that the wizard from Blue Eagle Nest was daring to approach her.
An Official Wizard, even the weakest one, was not someone she could compare to.
While she was pondering this, a brown jelly-like sphere suddenly appeared above Saradin's head and quickly hurtled toward her.
"Get away!!"
Seeing Saradin in danger, Freya unleashed her energy and dashed forward without hesitation.
‘Hiss hiss hiss’
The sound of corrosion echoed.
Seeing that her attacks had no effect, Freya immediately ran to the left without a second thought.
With this level of power, even the sand clone was beyond her ability to destroy. If the real body showed up, unless Saradin woke up, there would be no way to escape this calamity.
Although an Official Wizard theoretically only had slightly better defensive capabilities than a Third-Rank Apprentice due to the Empowerment Spell, that only applied to a newly promoted Official Wizard. For some seasoned wizards, their strength was something she could not withstand.
And a wizard capable of transforming into a sand clone was undoubtedly one of those Old Wizards.
However, just as she changed direction, the massive Bald Figure behind her suddenly exploded.
A gigantic hand made of yellow sand formed and shot towards her at an incredible speed.
The intense sense of danger from behind left her no time to think; she could only choose to sprint faster.
Suddenly, a Black Veil enveloped her head.
The enormous hand of sand came crashing down with astonishing speed.
Like a thick sandstorm, Freya felt her breath catch suddenly, and then something heavy pressed down from above.
Boom!!
"Damn it!!!"
At the moment the hand came down, sharp wind blades swept around Freya, followed by Ice Blue Light!
Screech!!
As the Sand Palm descended, under the dark veil, a Crimson Firebird surged upward, its piercing cries intertwining like countless Sharp Blades.
Bang!!!!
The collision between the hand and the Firebird produced a violent roar.
In the depths of Azure Light, two massive silver Tassels had already extended behind Freya.
The enhancement from the Ice Blue Earrings put her in peak condition!
With a whoosh!
The raging flames pierced through the thick Sand Palm!
"You cannot escape my grasp, Saradin!!!"
That muffled voice grew weaker and eventually disappeared completely.
Before Freya's enormous palm, she coldly gazed at the sand that had crystallized from her strongest attack, paused for a moment, then continued running towards the edge of the yellow sand without looking back.
The destruction of her clone only inflicted some backlash on the wizard; it did not harm him fundamentally. However, since she could now condense a clone, it indicated that the wizard was not far from Freya and her companion.
'We must! We must leave this place first!' (To be continued)
