Along the way, the Red Eagle Bandits seemed to be fixated on Bert's whereabouts, persistently sending people to harass the two until Freya was provoked enough to use a Spell to locate one of their hideouts and wipe out everyone inside, finally bringing some peace.
Although it turned out that there were indeed other Wizard Organizations involved behind the Red Eagle, Freya saw no need to pursue the matter further.
However, from this, she gained a clearer understanding of the situation faced by the wizards stationed in Katia.
Three hours later.
The city gates of Katia finally came into view for Freya and her companion.
After walking for about half an hour inside the city, the carriage stopped in front of a magnificent villa estate.
As soon as the carriage halted, Bert hurriedly got out and ran towards the villa.
Standing outside the villa, Freya looked around and noticed a row of large trees with red leaves surrounding the estate, emanating a faint energy aura.
These were clearly Magical Plants cultivated by wizards for some specific purpose.
She also saw a recruitment sign next to the villa door.
The courses listed were mainly basic general knowledge and did not pertain to wizardry.
It seemed that this place served not only as a base for Elgreen Academy but also had the identity of a private academy.
Before Freya could finish reading the information on the sign, Bert rushed out with two individuals dressed as apprentices.
"Freya, I have already notified Teacher Sara. Are you going to meet her now?"
"That would be appropriate," Freya nodded and got off the carriage.
Her gaze casually swept over the two unfamiliar apprentices; their energy aura was also at the strength level of First-Class Apprentices, similar to Bert.
The carriage was taken away by the two apprentices, while Freya followed Bert into the villa.
The large villa seemed to be divided into many areas. As they passed one of the rooms, she noticed several young people dressed in luxurious attire studying inside, and at the front of these students stood a middle-aged man in a Gray Robe giving a lecture.
From the sound, it seemed he was discussing historical topics.
"Those people are students sent here by nobles who want to affiliate with the academy. If any of them have wizard potential, they will be accepted as disciples by the teacher. I was discovered by the teacher in the same way," Bert explained carefully, noticing Freya's gaze.
"Oh?" Listening to Bert's explanation, Freya curiously looked at the boy in front of her. "So, none of the apprentices here come from the headquarters?"
"Not entirely. Those who teach here are former students from the academy. As for us chosen by the teacher, we can't all be considered apprentices of Elgreen. But we are true disciples of Teacher Sara."
"I see..." Freya nodded.
Soon, after passing through two such rooms and turning down a corridor, they finally arrived at a door.
"This is Teacher Sara's room. Due to the side effects of her experiments, she can only meet one person at a time. So I won't go in," Bert said as he stood beside the door.
"Okay." Seeing Bert standing still, Freya paused for a moment before reaching out to gently knock on the door.
"I am Freya Green from Elgreen Academy, reporting to Master Sara."
"Come in; the door is unlocked," a hoarse voice immediately came from inside.
With permission granted, Freya turned the handle and slowly pushed the door open to enter.
As soon as she stepped inside, a fresh and natural scent greeted her. Looking around, she was surprised to find that the small room was filled with various exotic plants.
One green plant that resembled a bell immediately produced a crisp, rhythmic sound like a nursery rhyme from a music box when Freya entered.
A woman dressed in a green robe and wearing a black veil was at the window using a trowel to plant a black seed in a pot filled with maggots.
Upon seeing Freya enter, the only visible eye of Master Sara suddenly brightened slightly.
"I didn't expect it to be three years already. The academy has finally sent another apprentice. It seems the academy hasn't completely given up on this place. I'm so happy, truly happy."
Her hoarse voice was somewhat grating, like a cat scratching glass, which immediately gave Freya goosebumps.
However, Freya could only endure it and slightly bowed respectfully.
"I'm very pleased to meet you, Master Sara."
"I'm so happy, truly happy. I'm so happy, truly happy..." It seemed as if she hadn't heard Freya's greeting; Saradin's expression appeared somewhat frenzied as she stared at Freya, repeating the last phrase.
"Master Sara... what's wrong with you?" Freya asked, frowning at the woman in front of her who was wearing a veil and repeating the same words.
Her harsh voice combined with the incessant sound of nursery rhyme music from the plants made Freya feel waves of intense nausea, and her vision began to blur.
In her daze, she seemed to see dark, twisted tentacles appearing behind Saradin, slowly crawling towards her.
A tingling sensation filled her mind.
"What is this..." Freya thought of something, and her eyes immediately filled with terror.
Gradually, the repeated words were elongated by the hoarse voice, sounding like a mix of countless people's screams.
Just when she felt she was about to collapse, a strange, clear voice suddenly appeared in her mind.
"Freya? Freya Green? What's wrong with you?"
Her hazy vision gradually became clearer with this voice. She blinked and looked somewhat bewildered at the young woman in front of her, feeling as if her body was floating.
The room was not filled with plants but was an ordinary study instead, with warm yellow sunlight streaming in through the window.
"Freya? Are you feeling better?" Seeing that Freya's gaze finally focused, the woman let out a gentle sigh and handed her a glass of green mint-flavored drink.
Instinctively taking the offered item, Freya looked at the unfamiliar woman in front of her.
"May I ask who you are..."
"I am Saradin, the only wizard stationed at Elgreen Academy in Katia."
"Master Sara!?" Upon hearing the woman's introduction, Freya immediately came to her senses, somewhat incredulous.
That woman with the veil when she entered earlier...?
Noticing Freya's astonished expression, Saradin was not surprised; instead, she smiled wryly.
"I could tell from your expression when you walked in that you had seen her, right?"
"What?" Listening to Saradin's words, it seemed she had already anticipated what Freya had just experienced. (To be continued)
