Crouching quietly in the grass, Freya watched the three approaching figures, her wrist holding the Cross Sword slightly raised.
As they entered her attack range, a silvery flash of sword light suddenly erupted.
'Puchi'
'Puchi'
The sharp blade, combined with incredible speed, easily sliced through the heads of two of them, while the last one was pierced through the throat by the short sword in her left hand, collapsing to the ground without a sound.
"What happened! Harry, Ryan, what's wrong with you?" The sudden fall of the three alerted one of their companions.
Suddenly, a silver short sword shot towards him, piercing through his eye socket and exiting from the back of his head.
"Five!" Counting calmly, Freya pulled the short sword from the man's head, red and white brain matter splattering on the Blade, causing her to frown slightly. She flicked it off and then concealed herself once more.
"Captain! Colt is dead!" A man wielding an axe discovered the first man killed by Freya.
"What?" The Bearded Man's eyes narrowed slightly as he quickly walked towards him.
The corpse lay quietly there, with only two wounds on its body and no other signs of struggle.
"It was a quick kill..." The Bearded Man suddenly shouted to those around him: "Stop searching! Gather up! Hurry and regroup! We've encountered something tough."
The pursuers in the forest were indeed drawn to the sounds she created.
Wiping the wet mud off her face, Freya watched as the group she had deliberately slowed down came rushing toward her, their speed suddenly increasing from that of ordinary people.
Most of these individuals were just regular soldiers, their physical abilities nowhere near matching Freya, who possessed half of a Knight Level. After she accelerated, she almost instantly vanished from their sight.
"What? What happened?" The sudden disappearance of their target caused some to stop in confusion.
"Keep chasing! Those two women have seen our faces; we cannot let them live! They must be hiding somewhere. Split up and search!" shouted the Bearded Man, who appeared to be the leader.
"Yes!" A synchronized response echoed through the woods.
Watching as everyone scattered, the Bearded Man squinted slightly. He had seen the figure vanish just moments ago. Although he suspected it was hiding, that kind of speed felt off to him.
"It seems like Knight Level skills," the Bearded Man murmured to himself. However, he quickly shook his head; the two women they were hunting looked quite young.
"Maybe I was mistaken," he reassured himself before joining in on the search.
Behind a large tree, Freya, who had originally disappeared, quietly observed the Saladin Soldiers searching in all directions. She had overheard their organized chatter, which confirmed her suspicions.
She had already drawn two swords, their silver blades reflecting her cold yet dirty face.
Due to the obstruction of trees and bushes, they had become separated. With her back turned against a large tree, Freya did her best to keep her body concealed while the footsteps grew closer and closer.
Taking a deep breath, she tensed all her muscles, ready to explode into action at a moment's notice, her gaze fixed on the shadow beneath her feet.
The footsteps grew closer.
Freya tightened her grip on the sword, slowly crouching down.
Suddenly, the footsteps came to an abrupt halt.
Freya narrowed her eyes and sprang out from behind the tree, thrusting the Cross Sword upward with her right hand while simultaneously stabbing with her short sword in her left.
Sizzle!!
Thud.
A soft sensation transmitted through the sword to Freya's hand; there was no resistance as a clear line of blood extended from the man's chest to his forehead. The short sword pierced his throat before he could make a sound, and the man wielding the machete slowly collapsed in confusion, never understanding what had happened.
Deliberately avoiding the blood that sprayed out, Freya quickly sheathed both swords and searched the man, finding a silver medal on him.
A brief glance revealed that the medal bore the image of a lion on its front, with some text below that seemed to indicate the owner's name.
Without examining it closely, Freya tucked it into her pocket and swiftly concealed herself using her Agility.
In an instant, one less person meant it was impossible for those scattered around to notice. Freya lightly navigated through the forest, using her Agility to evade most people's line of sight.
Killing someone did not burden her psychologically. Ever since experiencing the incident with Olyssis, Freya had lost her fear of combat; death gradually became insignificant in her eyes. After all, this world was meant to be like this.
Hearing the command, everyone quickly gathered together.
After glancing at the number of people present, the Bearded Man frowned; there were actually five people missing. Including himself, there were only fourteen left.
"To think that in such a short time... I misjudged. This kind of power is indeed Knight Level." After a moment of thought, the Bearded Man decided not to pursue.
With the level of these ordinary soldiers, it was impossible to withstand such an opponent. Moreover, judging by the enemy's combat style, it was clearly an Agility-type Knight Level. If it had been a strength-based opponent, it would have undoubtedly been a one-sided massacre.
Of course, if the enemy had foolishly charged out, perhaps they could have resisted for a while or even managed to surround and kill them by sheer numbers. But it was clear that the enemy was no fool and knew how to hide.
"We're leaving!"
At the command, the soldiers remained silent. They had also realized the terror of their opponents. The group slowly retreated towards their original direction, almost pressed closely together in nervousness, disregarding even the bodies of their fallen comrades.
Freya crouched on a branch of a large tree, quietly observing the scene below. The broad and dense leaves concealed her figure; if one did not pay attention, they would not notice that someone was hiding there.
Having killed five people in such a short time finally intimidated that group. Although she wished to keep them all behind, it was merely a thought. She knew her limits; she was confident in taking down five or six opponents without sustaining any injuries, but if it were fourteen or fifteen, that would be another matter entirely.
Through this battle, she also understood the gap between herself and those ordinary soldiers. If she truly advanced to Knight Level, then even over thirty ordinary soldiers would be insufficient.
She touched her chest, which was gradually warming up from the quick movements; that energy seemed to become more active during the fight.
It wasn't until that group completely disappeared that Freya climbed down from the tree and followed her memory back to where the maid had hidden.
Casually brushing aside the weeds, the maid named Eli had already fallen asleep from tension and exhaustion, her breathing steady.
Gently patting her face, I woke her up.
Once she was awake, I immediately pulled her deeper into the forest.
There was no way to return to the main road; soldiers of Saladin had been spotted there, and surely more would be waiting. As for the carriage, that was out of the question. In this area of Green Territory, there was less than half the distance left. Although it would take longer on foot than by carriage, we might still make it back before dark.
"This matter must be reported to Father!" Freya said with a slight frown as we walked. The sight of foreign soldiers entering our territory only brought one word to her mind: invasion.
The forest was overgrown with weeds, making it nearly impossible to see far ahead. A regular person alone here might easily lose their way.
However, this environment was not too difficult for Freya. Having studied maps and armed with knowledge from her past life about wilderness survival, she could easily determine the direction. Although she might still be off from the exact destination, her general direction was correct.
The short sword was hidden behind her back while Freya wielded the Cross Sword to clear obstacles as she ran with Eli.
In this world, unlike Earth where wildlife was nearly extinct, some ferocious beasts lurked in the dense forest, some even more terrifying than humans.
