In the ancient tomb, Li Ye and Zhiruo lived a secluded life, relying on each other and enjoying carefree days. Li Ye practiced the Nine Nether Spirit Control Technique, gradually strengthening his body by absorbing the Spiritual Energy of heaven and earth, and his magical abilities improved over time. From initially being able to control only one rat corpse, he could now manipulate two Wolf Corpses. He even managed to solve their living problems by using beast meat, while Zhiruo would take the meat to the village in exchange for necessary supplies.
Zhiruo hoped to return to the village with Li Ye to live an ordinary life, but Li Ye was well aware of the dangers of practicing secret techniques. The Nine Nether Spirit Control Technique was crucial for their survival but could also attract unwanted attention from those with ulterior motives. He feared that if their secret techniques were exposed, it would not only invite jealousy and greed but could also put them in danger, jeopardizing their foundation for cultivation and safety.
Li Ye understood that controlling corpses was considered unacceptable in the eyes of the world and viewed as heretical sorcery. Their hidden life in the ancient tomb continued precisely because of this misunderstood and unaccepted power.
Although Zhiruo longed for an ordinary life, Li Ye chose to remain in the tomb to cultivate. He did not want to put Zhiruo in danger or expose his secret techniques to others. Their life was difficult, but within the tranquility of the ancient tomb, they found a way to survive and a precious sense of peace.
When Zhiruo returned to the village to exchange for supplies, a sharp-eyed villager noticed a shocking scar on the beast meat she brought back. This scar was clearly not caused by a human, raising suspicion in the villager's mind, who decided to secretly follow Zhiruo. After some tracking, he discovered Li Ye and the Wolf Corpses he controlled. Shocked and terrified, he hesitated to act immediately and instead quietly spread rumors back in the village.
The villagers circulated malicious rumors about Zhiruo: "Zhiruo has colluded with evil spirits and obtained this cursed beast meat. Anyone who eats this meat will be cursed and face misfortune." This claim quickly incited panic and hostility within the village, causing villagers to turn against Zhiruo. Even some who had been cared for by Zhiruo's grandfather began to doubt her out of fear and ignorance.
The next time Zhiruo returned to the village, she clearly felt the villagers' strange gazes and cold attitudes. She tried to explain herself, but no one was willing to listen. Just as she was about to leave, several strong men suddenly rushed out and forcibly imprisoned her. Zhiruo looked at these once-familiar faces in terror, unable to understand why things had escalated this way.
Locked away, Zhiruo was filled with despair and helplessness; she did not know if Li Ye would discover her disappearance or how he might rescue her. Meanwhile, Li Ye was cultivating in the ancient tomb when he sensed that Zhiruo had not returned for an extended period and felt an uneasy premonition.
At the same time, the villagers' panic escalated as they began discussing how to deal with Zhiruo. Some suggested driving her out of the village, while others advocated burning her alive as a sacrifice for peace in the village. Even though a few rational villagers tried to intervene, it was futile; people only believed what they wanted to believe.
After waiting for a long time without seeing Zhiruo return, Li Ye realized that his fears had come true. He decided to go into the village to search for her; however, upon arriving at the village entrance, he saw villagers on high alert. He attempted to sneak into the village but found that things were not as simple as he had imagined.
Under the guidance of the villager who had followed Zhiruo, other villagers had set up a vigilant blockade around the village, preventing outsiders from entering! He had no choice but to carefully look for opportunities.
As night fell and most villagers succumbed to sleepiness, he took advantage of the darkness to slip into the village.
Li Ye finally found Zhiruo imprisoned. When she saw him appear, a glimmer of hope flashed in her eyes but was quickly overshadowed by worry: "Brother Ye, what should we do? I don't understand why they are treating me like this."
"There’s no time for philosophical discussions; let’s get out of here first," Li Ye said cautiously as he scanned their surroundings while calmly thinking of how to rescue Zhiruo.
Li Ye decided to create chaos using his abilities as a distraction to rescue Zhiruo. He quietly summoned two Wolf Corpses and commanded them to make noise on the other side of the village. The villagers were indeed drawn away by the commotion; taking advantage of this opportunity, Li Ye broke open Zhiruo's cell door. Zhiruo timidly followed behind him, thinking 'He saved me once again!'
After escaping from the village, they returned to the ancient tomb. Li Ye comforted a still-shaken Zhiruo: "We must be more careful now; they have already begun to suspect us. Next, we need to find a safer place or completely eliminate these threats."
Zhiruo nodded; she knew their lives were no longer peaceful. The unpredictability of human nature made her realize that it seemed there was no one else in this world worthy of her trust besides Li Ye—after all, he had saved her twice now—while villagers who had benefited from her grandfather's kindness treated her so maliciously.
Just as Li Ye and Zhiruo were nervously discussing their next steps, a low rumbling sound suddenly echoed through the ancient tomb. They both turned their heads simultaneously and saw that the coffin lid lying quietly in the center of the chamber was slowly moving. Zhiruo's heart raced while Li Ye clenched his fists tightly, staring intently at that mysterious coffin.
The coffin lid slowly and heavily slid open, releasing a wave of chill. Accompanied by a cold wind, an eerie low moan emanated from within the coffin. Li Ye and Zhiruo held their breath, the sight before them sending shivers down their spines.
Inside the coffin lay an ancient bell, entwined with black talismans that emitted a faint blue glow. Li Ye hesitated for a moment, but as if hypnotized, he was drawn to the bell and reached out to take it. Instantly, he felt a powerful force surge into his body, as if all the blood within him was boiling.
"What is this...?" Zhiruo asked in terror.
A flicker of unease crossed Li Ye's eyes, but it was overshadowed by the allure of that power: "I don't know, but I can feel it has immense strength, yet... it also seems very evil?"
As the bell was removed, the two Wolf Corpses controlled by Li Ye underwent a terrifying transformation. Their eyes turned crimson, their bodies swelled, becoming even more ferocious and terrifying. Li Ye's eyes gradually turned red as well, an uncontrollable rage igniting within him, fueling his desire for slaughter and bloodshed.
"I want to go back to the village and make them pay for what they did to Zhiruo!" Li Ye's voice was low and filled with murderous intent.
"Brother Ye, calm down! You seem off!" Zhiruo tried to dissuade him, but Li Ye was already under the control of the evil power and could not hear her.
Li Ye charged back to the village with the mutated Wolf Corpses, leaving destruction in his wake. The villagers were terrified and fled in panic. However, Li Ye's strength and the ferocity of the Wolf Corpses left them with nowhere to escape. Li Ye brandished the bell, his eyes filled with hatred, ready to exact ruthless revenge on the villagers.
Just as he was about to kill the first villager, Zhiruo suddenly rushed forward and embraced him: "Brother Ye, no! You're not like this!"
Zhiruo's tears and voice awakened the goodness deep within Li Ye. His crimson eyes gradually returned to normal. Looking at the trembling villagers around him, he realized he had almost been controlled by the evil power.
"Listen up!" Li Ye said coldly, "If you dare harm Zhiruo again, you will face consequences you cannot bear!"
The villagers nodded tremulously, not daring to voice any dissent. Li Ye left the village with Zhiruo and the mutated Wolf Corpses, returning to the ancient tomb.
Zhiruo urged Li Ye to discard the bell, but he was reluctant to give up its power. He realized that although there was a force within the bell that he could not currently control, if he found a way to harness this evil power, he could quickly avenge his village and loved ones.
"Power itself is neither good nor evil; it is only those who wield it that determine its morality," Li Ye said seriously as he looked at Zhiruo.
In the days that followed, Li Ye continuously attempted to communicate with the bell while strengthening his cultivation in hopes of mastering this power without being controlled by it. Zhiruo remained by his side as always, helping him stay awake and rational by gathering herbs that invigorated his mind. Their bond deepened during this challenging time.
One dark night, Li Ye entered a state of cultivation once more. The bell was placed before him, its blue glow flickering in the ancient tomb. Sitting quietly on the ground, he focused his mind as his Spiritual Energy clashed with the evil force within the bell; cold sweat beaded on his forehead.
However, just as Li Ye concentrated fully on battling the malevolent spirit within him, the Black Curse entwined around the bell began to tremble slightly and emitted faint whispers. The sound gradually became clearer, as if chanting some ancient and evil incantation. Unbeknownst to Li Ye, he failed to notice this subtle change; his attention was entirely consumed by the internal struggle.
Suddenly, a stream of black mist surged out of the bell, quickly coalescing in the air into a vague humanoid shape. This figure was cold and eerie, with flickering crimson light in its eyes, as if it were watching Li Ye. It slowly approached, extending its withered fingers to gently touch Li Ye's forehead.
Meanwhile, Zhiruo was resting on the other side when she suddenly felt a strong sense of unease. She got up and walked towards Li Ye's cultivation area, discovering that the blue light emitted by the bell was intensifying, while Li Ye's expression was one of pain and distortion. She hurried forward, trying to awaken Li Ye, but the black mist pushed her away.
Surrounded by the black mist, Li Ye's mind was violently shaken. He felt an invisible force attempting to invade his soul and seize his body. The evil whispering grew clearer, filled with mockery and disdain.
At that moment, the bell suddenly let out a sharp ringing sound, causing the entire ancient tomb to tremble. The humanoid figure in the black mist gradually became clearer; its face was grotesque and terrifying, as if it were a malevolent spirit crawling out from the depths of hell. Li Ye's consciousness began to blur, as if he were about to be completely consumed.
"Li Ye! Wake up!" Zhiruo shouted loudly, her voice piercing through the black mist like a beam of light.
A glimmer of clarity flashed in Li Ye's eyes as he exerted himself forcefully to break free from the black mist's grasp. However, just as he regained control of his consciousness, the evil spirit vanished into thin air, as if it had never existed.
Gasping for breath, Li Ye opened his eyes and looked at Zhiruo, filled with complex emotions: "Zhiruo, I almost... lost myself."
Zhiruo tightly grasped Li Ye's hand and said firmly, "We will find a way to never let this evil force control you."
The two exchanged smiles, determined to face future challenges together. However, they did not notice that on the side, the bell's talisman was gradually dimming, and a faint crack had quietly appeared. From within the crack, black mist swirled like a ghostly presence, as if brewing a greater conspiracy.
In the shadows of the ancient tomb, whispers echoed once more, filled with chilling laughter: "The price of power will eventually reveal itself..."
With this terrifying omen, the atmosphere within the ancient tomb grew even more sinister. Li Ye and Zhiruo were unaware that the true crisis had only just begun. The evil spirit within the bell lurked in the shadows, waiting for its next opportunity to possess. The horrific conclusion remained undisclosed, while a dark future quietly approached…
