Lingfeng followed Gangzi's pointing direction with confusion, but the moonlight was blocked by the buildings, making it pitch dark and impossible to see anything.
"What's wrong? There's nothing!" Gangzi said anxiously, perhaps having mistaken something.
Gangzi was so anxious that he started stamping his feet, making faces at Lingfeng as if he were constipated.
Lingfeng, feeling baffled by Gangzi's behavior, muttered in dissatisfaction, "Could it be that you saw a ghost?"
Upon hearing this, Gangzi seemed to grasp at a lifeline and quickly nodded.
Suddenly, a gust of cold wind blew through, carrying a foul odor in the air.
"What is that smell?" Lingfeng sniffed and noticed that Gangzi's pants were already wet in one spot.
Gangzi was still shaken, but at that moment he became somewhat clear-headed. Hearing Lingfeng's question made him blush and lower his head.
It turned out that Gangzi had been so frightened that he had wet himself!
Seeing Gangzi's expression, Lingfeng had already guessed what happened and said no more. He took out a Paper Talisman to illuminate the area and recited an Incantation. The Paper Talisman seemed to fill with power, glowing brightly as it flew toward the spot where Gangzi had soiled himself.
The area was small and dimly lit, but with the illumination from the Paper Talisman, it suddenly became as bright as day.
Both Lingfeng and Gangzi looked over, only to find that aside from a pile of feces, there was nothing else there.
Gangzi was astonished. Looking at Lingfeng's helpless expression, he explained blankly, "There was clearly a shadow there just now!"
Lingfeng remained silent and took out a wooden piece, saying, "Let's clean this up first!"
Gangzi took the wooden piece but didn't walk far; he stood in place to clean it up. Lingfeng then used the Water Control Technique to clean the urine off Gangzi's pants.
Seeing Lingfeng's spell, Gangzi was astonished and asked while adjusting his pants, "Lingfeng, what kind of spell is this? It's amazing!"
"Urine Control Technique!" Lingfeng replied without thinking.
Although it was the Water Control Technique, Lingfeng had used this spell to administer medicine to Ziren before, and now he was using it to help Gangzi with his pants, demonstrating the wide application and great effect of the Water Control Technique.
Lingfeng looked around and sighed lightly, saying, "When do ghosts usually appear?"
"According to logic, they should have appeared by now, but why is there not a single sound today?" Gangzi said, puzzled. Then he smiled and added, "They must know you're coming, so they're too scared to show up!"
Gangzi's horse trotted comfortably, making Lingfeng nod and smile.
"Where do they usually appear?" Lingfeng asked again.
Gangzi thought for a moment and said, "Some people say they appear in the middle of the village!"
"The middle?" At this point, Lingfeng and Gangzi were at the edge of the village, still some distance from the center.
"Could it be that a formation has been set up in the middle of the village?" Lingfeng murmured, then led Gangzi to the center of the village.
Lingfeng focused his gaze and noticed that the center of the village had a circular shape, with arc-shaped houses on both sides. This kind of terrain is generally referred to as Tai Chi Terrain; if a formation were laid out here, it would turn into an extreme Yang place during the day and an extreme Yin place at night.
Having analyzed the terrain, Lingfeng had a clue. It seemed that these ghosts indeed appeared from here.
However, despite the unique terrain, Lingfeng felt no trace of Spiritual Energy indicating a formation had been set up. In such a situation, Lingfeng could only deduce two possibilities. The first was that this place happened to be at the center of the Ghost Gate, combined with its special terrain, which opened the Ghost Gate. The second possibility was that whoever set up the formation here had powers far beyond Lingfeng's.
"This terrain is quite strange; I'm not entirely confident I can seal off the Ghost Gate here, but we can give it a try!" Lingfeng said uncertainly.
"How do we seal it?" At this point, Gangzi was too anxious to be scared; he just hoped to finish quickly and return for a good feast.
"Wait a moment, I will push down the houses on both sides, but this alone won't completely break the formation. You need to find what that woman buried!" Lingfeng said.
Gangzi nodded and then turned to leave.
Lingfeng let out a long breath; it seemed that even a coward, when forced, could become a hero.
Most of the houses were thatched huts, built from a mixture of mud and straw. This was not a challenge for Lingfeng; as long as he used the Earth Control Technique, he could easily push down those houses.
Without time to think further, Lingfeng quietly began to chant the Incantation. However, just as he had completed half of it, a sudden evil wind swept through, darkening the surroundings and stirring up dust and debris. The thatch on the roofs was blown everywhere.
Gangzi, who was searching for what the Madwoman had buried, saw this scene and cried out in fear. He quickly took a Paper Talisman in his left hand and an Ivory Bone Knife in his right, hiding in the shadows.
At this point, it was clearly impossible to push down the houses. Lingfeng hurriedly retreated to one side, keeping a vigilant eye on the center of the formation.
The evil wind only lasted for a moment. Once Lingfeng withdrew from the formation, it gradually calmed down. However, light began to appear in the center of the formation. The light, along with the houses on both sides, formed a Bagua pattern, though only half of it was visible.
Lingfeng took a deep breath and shouted loudly to Gangzi behind him, "Protect yourself and don't forget to chant the Incantation!"
Gangzi remained silent; he was actually terrified.
Lingfeng smiled wryly; it seemed that Gangzi was all show and no substance—he couldn't even speak after seeing a ghost.
However, Lingfeng felt weak and knew that relying solely on his own strength to send those spirits back to the Underworld would be quite taxing. But since he was already here, he naturally wouldn't back down.
Moments later, the Bagua began to levitate, forming a crescent shape—the yin side of the Bagua.
Now Gangzi seemed quite curious as he suppressed his fear and walked over to Lingfeng's side, exclaiming in surprise, "Lingfeng, have you broken this formation?"
Lingfeng shook his head solemnly, observing the changes quietly.
"Strange!" Gangzi murmured, "But in the past, when ghosts appeared, it wasn't this grand!"
Lingfeng looked at Gangzi in confusion, not understanding what he meant.
Just as Gangzi finished speaking, the half Bagua had already risen to a height of over a person, and within it, a large door faintly appeared. The door was filled with a sinister aura, and on top of it was a human head with horns.
Seeing such a scene, Gangzi exclaimed and sat down on the ground, unable to stand up again.
Lingfeng was astonished, his mouth agape, murmuring, "Could this be the Ghost Gate? True Qi Sect!"
He then pulled Gangzi aside and took out some talismans, waiting for the ghosts to appear so he could throw the talismans inside.
As the sinister aura on the Ghost Gate gradually dissipated, the Ghost Gate slowly opened, revealing some black misty shadows inside.
Lingfeng was very excited, thinking that after learning so many skills, he finally had a chance to use them. He gathered Spiritual Energy onto the talismans and then projected them towards the Ghost Gate.
The ghosts did not know how to disperse; they crowded together, all wanting to rush out. Little did they know that there was a nemesis waiting for them outside. The ghosts at the front were even more miserable; just as they were about to escape the Ghost Gate, a beam of spiritual light suddenly shot towards them. At that moment, they couldn't retreat or charge forward; they could only let out a miserable scream before turning into a wisp of smoke and vanishing.
"I thought they would be formidable ghosts; turns out they're just lowly creatures that can only scare people!" Seeing initial success boosted Lingfeng's confidence. He casually threw many talismans inside, causing several ghosts to disappear without a trace.
Realizing Lingfeng's power, the remaining ghosts hurriedly turned back and ran into the Ghost Gate. Lingfeng would not let them go; he rolled up his pants and charged into the Ghost Gate, which then creaked shut behind him!
The next morning, sunlight broke through, and a chill filled the air.
Gangzi was chilled by a gust of wind and felt much more alert. Remembering what had happened last night made him feel quite alarmed. Recalling Lingfeng entering the Ghost Gate, he feared that Lingfeng's life had come to an end and he had been taken away. He returned to the valley crying.
Many villagers had been waiting outside early in the morning, setting up a lavish banquet to welcome Lingfeng back. However, what they received was Gangzi returning in tears.
"Where is Ling Shao Xia? Why hasn't he come back?" Uncle Liu asked as he saw Gangzi return alone, feeling somewhat puzzled.
Gangzi saw Uncle Liu but couldn't speak, sitting on the ground with tears streaming from his eyes like a spring.
"Ah, what kind of man cries like this? Where has Ling Shao Xia gone?" Uncle Liu asked anxiously.
"Gangzi... Ling Shao Xia... he..." Gangzi stammered, losing all semblance of masculinity.
Aunt Liu, seeing Gangzi's silence, was also sweating with anxiety, but she advised Uncle Liu, "Oh, don't rush him. Let him calm down before we ask again."
The valley fell silent, even the birds stopped chirping, and only the sound of Gangzi's sobbing could be heard.
After a while, Gangzi finally stopped crying, wiped his tears, and choked out the events of last night.
Upon hearing Gangzi's words, everyone could only sigh in sorrow for the young death of Lingfeng.
After a moment of silence, Uncle Liu let out a heavy sigh and said to everyone with a sad expression, "Villagers, Ling Shao Xia died for our village. I promised him I would create a golden statue for him, but our village is poor and lacks sufficient funds. I think we should temporarily make one out of clay and then dye it gold with paint. When our village prospers in the future, we can replace it with a real golden statue!" With that, Uncle Liu sighed again and said, "Ling Shao Xia, it's not that I broke my promise; you know the situation in the village. We really can't create a golden statue for you!" Tears streamed down his cheeks.
Hearing Uncle Liu's words, everyone was filled with sadness. Each person brought out their best food from home and placed it at the entrance of the valley, loudly proclaiming, "Ling Shao Xia, come eat!"
