The Phoenix Pearl was completely transparent, illuminating the dim cave. The torches that were meant to provide light suddenly seemed dull, like the glow of fireflies compared to the sun.
The Man Pillar took the Phoenix Pearl from Lingfeng's hand, but as soon as it left Lingfeng's grasp, it lost its brilliance. Only its luxurious aura remained unchanged, resembling a graceful noble waiting for her lover's arrival.
"This pearl must have some hidden meaning; otherwise, the State Government wouldn't send people to search for it so vigorously," the Man Pillar pondered. "According to legends, there are four divine beasts in the celestial realm: the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise. These four divine beasts are born from the earth, sensing the Spiritual Energy and protecting the realm from demonic disturbances. However, these divine beasts are reborn every ten thousand years to restore their heroic forms. Each time they are reborn, they transform into stone pearls before being reborn in the celestial realm!"
Lingfeng's eyes widened, and his mouth formed an O shape as he finally couldn't help but ask, "Do you think this resembles one of the four divine beasts?" He then muttered to himself as if enchanted, "If it really is one of the four divine beasts, then I've struck gold! Hahaha!"
Upon hearing this, Bear Brute chuckled lightly and comforted Lingfeng by patting him on the shoulder. "Brother, whether transformed into stone eggs or reborn, the four divine beasts exist in their realm, and there are specialized deities to care for them. How could you possibly encounter one?"
"Uh~~!" Lingfeng responded, glancing at the Phoenix Pearl in his hand with some disappointment.
Seeing this, the Man Pillar added, "However, according to my master, earthly spirit beasts also possess spirituality. Some spirit beasts are born from the earth; some come from soil while others from stone. It's just that I have never seen these spirit beasts before. Moreover, to obtain a spirit beast requires fate, much like the meeting between a man and a woman."
Lingfeng believed this wholeheartedly because Azure Vine had mentioned before that acquiring a spirit beast or a rare creature required not only luck but also fate.
As for this Phoenix Pearl, it only shone in Lingfeng's hand, which naturally made him somewhat skeptical. He couldn't help but wonder what kind of pearl this was. After thinking it over, he felt that this pearl might be related to a phoenix-like spirit beast since it had the character for phoenix on it. He hurriedly said, "This pearl is called Phoenix Pearl; could it be a phoenix's stone egg?"
The Man Pillar nodded and replied, "It's possible. However, since the phoenix is the king of birds and a high-ranking spirit beast in the Cultivation Realm, how could it appear so easily? Furthermore, this pearl is a treasured possession of the State Government; if it were truly that precious, why would they not keep it properly instead of losing it?"
A series of questions left Lingfeng feeling confused. What exactly was this pearl? It had become a heavy stone in his heart. The Man Pillar made a valid point; if it were truly a spirit pearl, how could it easily appear here and be lost? Although this was a mystery, surely only the State Government knew the answer.
Lingfeng had crossed paths with Ziren once and knew he was no ordinary person. The method Ziren used to injure the Crane Beast and that purple evil gas made Lingfeng anxious just thinking about it. Thus, Lingfeng secretly decided that unless the State Government personally arrived, he would absolutely not hand over the Phoenix Pearl.
While he was lost in thought, a Loyal Minion flew in to report, "My lord, the people from the State Government have already left!"
Bear Brute's eyes lit up as he clapped his hands and exclaimed, "I knew those fellows were useless! I heard that overseer named Ziren had remarkable cultivation skills; I didn't expect him to be so incompetent!"
The Man Pillar was meticulous by nature; although he heard this news, he did not relax his tense mood and cautioned them seriously. "We must not underestimate them; their return likely means they want to find other ways to locate us!"
Bear Brute said, "This time the White Jade Escort Agency did not release the Hundred Venom Bees. I think next time they will let the Hundred Venom Bees out. If that's the case, we will have to be even more cautious!"
Lingfeng had encountered the Hundred Venom Bees before and knew their power, but he was not afraid. He confidently said, "They have a lot of Hundred Venom Bees. Last time, I almost suffered a loss. However, every creature has its weaknesses; those Hundred Venom Bees lack intelligence and are like wooden puppets! If the right opportunity arises, I have a way to eliminate those Hundred Venom Bees!"
The others glanced at Lingfeng, knowing that he had learned to use the Five Elements Spell. The bees were afraid of fire and would not approach water.
"What method do you have, brother?" Bear Brute asked.
Lingfeng's eyes sparkled with an idea. He said, "I want to infiltrate the White Jade Escort Agency again. Then, using a strategy, I will disrupt their formation and make them extend their search time for Wisteria Mountain. This way, I can take the opportunity to eliminate the Hundred Venom Bees, ensuring our safety!"
Although this was a good plan and the only option available, it also carried certain risks, causing some concern among the group.
"But that's too dangerous; I'm afraid..." Bear Brute hesitated after only half finishing his sentence.
Lingfeng smiled calmly and reassured him, "Brother Bear, don't worry; I will be careful."
After discussing for a while longer, Lingfeng released the Crane Beast from Xuanji and then stood up to take his leave.
By the time they reached Bai Family Town, it was already evening, and the streets were bustling again. Every household was brightly lit, and the sounds of vendors filled the air.
Lingfeng returned to the inn and began waiting for the right moment. He hadn't slept well for two days and missed the comfort of the inn's bed. Without even having time to eat after returning to the inn, he lay down on the bed and fell into a deep sleep.
He slept for a long time, and when Lingfeng finally woke from his sweet dreams, it was already dark outside.
Stretching lazily, Lingfeng felt incredibly comfortable. Looking out the window, he noticed that the innkeeper's room had already turned off its lights; it must be quite late. He quietly jumped out of the window and slipped onto the street.
At this moment, the street was silent; not even a stray cat could be seen. The stillness felt somewhat oppressive.
Arriving at the White Jade Escort Agency, Lingfeng quietly climbed over the wall and did not sense any movement from the Hundred Venom Bees, indicating that they had not yet been released. Lingfeng smiled hopefully and circled around the Rockery once more.
Upon reaching the backyard, he saw two servants walking toward the garden from a distance.
"It's so late and they're still awake; something must be going on!" Lingfeng thought to himself. He focused his gaze and indeed noticed that both servants were wearing black whistles around their necks.
Lingfeng stealthily followed the two into the garden and saw them enter a Flower Room. Soon, light spilled out from the room, illuminating the paper windows.
"Guys, we will need you soon. Whether we can catch all the bandits from Wisteria Mountain depends on you!" one of them said.
"I don't understand; since we will be using the Hundred Venom Bees to search for bandits, why do they need to patrol tonight? Shouldn't we conserve their energy?" the other grumbled, seemingly dissatisfied.
"We just need to do our jobs; why worry about so much?"
With that, the two took out a key.
Lingfeng peered through the paper window and observed their actions. Not daring to let them release the Hundred Venom Bees, he quickly leaped through the window, his hands forming a claw shape as he struck directly at the necks of the two men.
Before they could react, they fell silently to the ground.
At this point, it was deep into the night; aside from some patrolling guards, everyone else in Ziren and White Phoenix Mountain had long since gone to rest.
It turned out that inside this Flower Room were not flowers but cages. The holes in these cages were very small; unless the doors were opened, the Hundred Venom Bees could not escape from within.
Lingfeng made a face at the Hundred Venom Bees and then released a bit of his Spiritual Energy.
The Hundred Venom Bees, initially motionless, sensed a familiar aura that carried a hint of threat. They could no longer maintain their subdued demeanor and suddenly became agitated, buzzing loudly as they crashed against their cages. It was as if a group of indomitable beasts trapped in cages wanted to tear their captors apart.
"Last time you bullied me like that, this time I want to have some fun with you!" Lingfeng's eyes gleamed with malice as he took a firecracker from his sleeve. He gently blew on it, and a few sparks flew out, followed by a small flame.
Lingfeng chuckled mischievously and softly recited an incantation. Suddenly, the flame on the firecracker seemed to come to life, flickering twice before leaping onto Lingfeng's right index finger.
"I wonder how you will react this time!" With that, Lingfeng raised his left hand in a gesture resembling a guiding finger, directing the flame on his right index finger toward the cage of the Hundred Venom Bees. The flame suddenly erupted, spreading like a lit firecracker and surrounding the cage.
The Hundred Venom Bees at the edge of the cage seemed unfazed by the threat, continuing to angrily crash against it.
"Wow," Lingfeng feigned surprise, saying, "Aren't you afraid of fire?" He then made the flames wrap even tighter around the cage.
The cage was made of wrought iron, which began to heat up upon contact with the flames, soon glowing red hot.
The Hundred Venom Bees finally realized the danger and began to frantically batter against the cage, but it was futile.
Seeing this scene, Lingfeng felt an inexplicable thrill.
"This must be what they call a cornered beast's struggle!" Lingfeng murmured as he watched the dying struggles of the Hundred Venom Bees.
After a while, losing interest in playing, Lingfeng decided to intensify the flames, transforming them into a fireball. Instantly, a foul bitter smell filled the air.
These Hundred Venom Bees had been fed poison for years, accumulating vast amounts of toxins within them. Now, under the heat of the flames, those toxins could not be released and were instead decomposed by the high temperature. The decomposed toxins posed no threat, and Lingfeng paid them no mind.
