From a distance, the two hands appeared black and emaciated, as if they had just crawled out of a grave.
The recent experience was already shocking, and now something unknown emerged from the ground, causing Bear Brute to panic and rush to the boy's side. Only then did he see that the hands were actually bronze-colored, cast in shadow by the trees. From afar, they looked somewhat black and thin.
The boy lost his arrogance and was now screaming in fright.
"What kind of monster is this? It can even summon spirits from below!" Bear Brute reached out to move the hands that had emerged from the ground, but they were surprisingly strong, tightening their grip instead. The boy cried out, tears and snot streaming down his face.
"Master, it's going to break! It's going to break!" the boy wailed.
Unexpectedly, the hands loosened slightly, as if they had some compassion. Seeing this, the boy quickly urged, "Loosen up a bit more! Loosen up a bit more!" The hands finally released their grip and disappeared into the ground.
"Child, step back!" Bear Brute warned. When he saw the boy retreating, he swung his giant axe and began chopping at the ground wildly. After a while, he noticed a pit about three or four meters deep had formed, but there were no tunnels or monsters inside.
"Could it be that hands grew from the ground? No wonder this mountain is considered auspicious!" Bear Brute thought, unable to see the auspicious clouds above due to his mortal eyes. He recalled Lingfeng's words.
Just then, he suddenly heard a voice from underground asking, "Who dares disturb my sleep?" At that moment, Lingfeng was underground, pinching his nose to stifle his laughter as he muttered.
Bear Brute stumbled forward to look in the direction of the voice but saw no one.
Lingfeng knew he had frightened Bear Brute and hid behind a tree to sneak a glance at Crane Beast, who was restlessly flapping in the air.
Lingfeng chuckled softly and then heard Bear Brute shout, "Who are you? Why don't you show yourself?"
Although Bear Brute was a bandit, his courage genuinely impressed Lingfeng. If it were an ordinary person, they would have likely been scared out of their wits. For instance, Bai Lian had already vanished without a trace.
"I've wasted enough time; let's settle this quickly!" With that thought in mind, Lingfeng once again invoked Earth Control Technique.
As Lingfeng recited the incantation, he noticed the ground beneath Crane Beast beginning to stir ominously.
Bear Brute naturally noticed this phenomenon but couldn't understand what was happening. Just as he was about to move closer for a better look, dozens of black Earth Spikes shot up from the ground and rapidly pierced toward Crane Beast.
The Crane Beast was originally hovering in the air, keeping an eye on the ground while helping its master defend against threats, unaware of the danger beneath it.
The Bear Brute was stunned by the sudden scene, realizing after a moment that the Crane Beast was in danger. He hurriedly drew his Horn from his waist. However, it was already too late, as dozens of Earth Spikes had reached beneath the Crane Beast's chest.
In this thrilling moment, several swift sounds were heard, and a white light suddenly appeared in front of the Crane Beast. The white light was sharp and chilling; it was sword energy.
Wherever the sword energy passed, all the Earth Spikes had their tips sliced off, turning back into dust. Although the Earth Spikes turned to dust, they still had inertia and flew towards the Crane Beast.
The Crane Beast was blinded by the dust, spinning around aimlessly like a kite with a broken string.
The boy, anxious, quickly blew the Horn. The Crane Beast seemed to hear the guiding sound and slowly descended to the ground.
Lingfeng was astonished; that sword energy had come so suddenly that no one had anticipated it. Then he heard Bear Brute exclaim in surprise, "Brother Zhu, is that you!"
"Zhu?" Lingfeng exclaimed in shock and leaned out to look. He saw a young man who looked about twenty standing next to Bear Brute. The man was tall and slender, wearing a short outfit that exposed half of his shoulder, holding an ordinary sword. His gaze was resolute, his eyes bright and spirited, with dark skin but handsome features. Although three years had passed, Lingfeng could clearly identify him as Man Pillar!
Bear Brute seemed to hold great respect for Man Pillar, remaining vigilant of their surroundings while also protecting him.
Lingfeng was both surprised and delighted; he rushed out from behind the large tree and shouted, "Brother Man, what are you doing here!" Lingfeng had always had a good impression of Man Pillar and felt guilty about their past; seeing him now filled his heart with joy.
Man Pillar looked puzzled but saw a child running towards him.
"Xinxin!" Bear Brute quickly stepped in front of Man Pillar and the boy, placing his giant axe across his chest and shouted, "Monster! How are you still alive!"
Man Pillar frowned in confusion and said, "Brother Bear, he doesn't have any demonic aura on him. How can you call him a monster?"
Bear Brute paused for a moment, thinking Man Pillar must have seen wrong. He replied, "Brother, you must be mistaken. That boy can cast two types of Spells; how could an ordinary person possibly cultivate two types? He must be a monster!"
Man Pillar also looked doubtful and hesitated.
Lingfeng saw them being so fussy and impatient, so he hurriedly said to Man Pillar, "Brother Man, your memory is terrible. Have you forgotten your enemy?"
"Enemy?" Man Pillar was even more confused, thinking to himself when he had acquired such an enemy, who even called him Brother Man!
Seeing that Man Pillar still hadn't remembered, Lingfeng decided to be straightforward and said somewhat angrily, "I am Lingfeng, a disciple of the Demon Suppression Sect!"
Upon hearing this, Man Pillar was taken aback, and his expression turned somewhat grim. He pulled a long face and coldly huffed, "It's not yet five years. What do you want from me?"
Lingfeng thought to himself that this person was quite narcissistic; he wasn't here to find him at all. He smiled and explained, "Brother Man, I'm here to find my friend. However, the sect leader instructed me that if I encountered you, I should give you something!" He summoned the giant sword belonging to Man Qing from Xuanji and said, "You left in such a hurry back then that you forgot to take this sword with you. Today it returns to its rightful owner!"
Upon seeing the giant sword, Man Pillar quickly took it in his hands, tears welling up in his eyes as if he saw his deceased master. Looking at Lingfeng, who had an innocent expression without any malice, he felt moved and replied coolly, "Thank you!"
Bear Brute, listening from the side, was confused and couldn't understand the relationship between Bai Lingfeng and Man Pillar. However, it seemed they were friends, so he relaxed his guard and jokingly said, "Since we are all friends, let's go up the mountain and chat!"
Seeing that it was getting late, Lingfeng nodded repeatedly.
Man Pillar, not wanting to say anything unpleasant, also agreed.
Bear Brute lived on Wisteria Mountain, but he resided in a hidden cave with other bandits. The cave was located in a gorge with a narrow entrance obscured by trees, making it hard to discover.
However, inside the cave was quite different. After walking more than two miles inward, they suddenly came upon a spacious hall with stone tables and chairs—everything was complete. At the top was a Tiger Head Stone Chair, covered with a floral tiger skin. Several Loyal Minions guarded the front door of the hall to prevent outsiders from entering.
On the other side of the hall was another cave. Walking further inside revealed even more wonders. The cave featured flowing water and bizarre stalactites that shone in various colors under the torchlight. Along the way, Loyal Minions stood guard vigilantly.
After passing through the hall, they arrived at an open space which was Bear Brute's residence.
At this moment, Lingfeng was on Bear Brute's territory. Although he harbored some suspicion towards Bear Brute, he felt helpless. He still didn't know whether Bear Brute was good or evil; thus, he maintained some caution.
Since Man Pillar had a higher cultivation level than Lingfeng, he naturally noticed that Lingfeng had activated his Spiritual Energy for defense. He coldly remarked, "Brother Bear is the Bandit Leader here; he robs the rich to help the poor and is a good person. You don't need to be on guard."
Bear Brute nodded in agreement, revealing a row of yellow teeth. In the glow of the fire, his dark muscles glistened as if they were wild game being roasted over the flames.
Lingfeng stared at Bear Brute's muscles, feeling hungry. However, he feigned calmness and asked, "Who was that pale-faced person today? Why did he engage you in combat?"
"That guy is called Bai Lian, the second son of the White Jade Escort Agency. Don't be fooled by his delicate appearance; he's actually a ruthless villain," Bear Brute replied, but he didn't explain why they fought.
Lingfeng had no doubts about this. He thought to himself that bandits were originally thieves, and the better ones would rob the rich to help the poor. It wasn't surprising to clash with some wealthy young masters! He then turned to ask, "Brother Man, how did you end up here?"
Man Pillar adjusted the charcoal, his expression unusually serious. While skinning a nearby hare, he said, "When I saw this mountain filled with auspicious clouds, I knew it was a good place. I planned to bury my master's remains here and observe mourning for five years. This way, my master can rest in peace, and I can quietly wait for our five-year agreement!"
Lingfeng felt a bit embarrassed and awkwardly smiled, lowering his head as he pretended to poke at the charcoal.
"Hahaha!" Bear Brute laughed heartily, as if reminiscing about some happy past. He said, "At first, when I saw this brother intruding on my territory, I thought scaring him off would be enough. But this brother not only wasn't afraid of me; he fought back instead. I never expected that I couldn't withstand even ten of his moves before suffering a crushing defeat." After pausing for a moment, he continued, "Later on, when this brother revealed the truth, it turned out he had no intention of fighting me for the mountain. I realized he was a good person and invited him into my cave."
After hearing this, Lingfeng respected Man Pillar even more and secretly regarded him as his elder brother.
"By the way, brother, are you a cultivator? How do you have so many strange Spells?" Bear Brute still felt uneasy about today's events and curiously asked.
Recalling today's experiences made Lingfeng feel somewhat shy; every time his Spells had been countered. He recounted his experiences and added, "I truly feel ashamed. My first Earth Serpent was countered by Brother Bear, and my second Earth Spike was countered by Brother Man. I'm afraid I really have no opponents here!"
