Lu Zhenhuan tightened his grip on my hand, his voice low and hoarse, carrying a hint of vulnerability.
"Sister, will you stay with me for just one day? Just today."
I closed my eyes, knowing that my life would never be peaceful again.
Lu Zhenhuan was gone.
I felt an emptiness inside, as if something was missing.
I wandered around the villa and stumbled into Lu Zhenhuan's study.
At the bottom of the bookshelf was a glass door filled with colorful candies.
These candies were all those that Lu Zhenhuan had once forcefully given to me but I had refused.
Curious about what he was doing, I cautiously pulled open his drawer.
At the top was a safe.
I entered my birthday, and the safe opened.
Inside was a smaller locked box and a thick notebook.
My intuition told me that there were secrets of Lu Zhenhuan inside.
I needed to find the key!
I rummaged through the safe but found nothing.
I recalled seeing a similar key in his room last time.
So, I sneaked back home.
His room was unlocked, and I quickly found the key along with that old diary.
Just as I was about to open the diary, a deep voice came from behind me.
"What are you looking for?"
Startled, I dropped the diary.
"Thud—"
The bedside lamp turned on, casting a dim yellow light over the room.
I finally saw Lu Zhenhuan's pale complexion. He lay on the bed, the floor in disarray, and the sheets stained red. Blood was seeping from his lower abdomen, and the wound was faintly visible beneath the gauze. Lu Zhenhuan was bare-chested, his abdomen wrapped in bandages. He propped himself up and weakly waved at me, saying, "Come here."
I stepped back in fear. I wanted to run out the door, but Lu Zhenhuan held me down. "Sister, you found the key, didn't you?" His eyes were dark, and his expression was grim.
I shook my head frantically. "I—I don't know... I didn't see anything..." In the next moment, Lu Zhenhuan threw me onto the bed. He forcefully kissed me and groped my body.
"Stop! Let go of me!" I struggled, but he pressed down on me tightly. He placed my hand on his wound and asked, "Does it hurt you?"
I stared at him, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably. Lu Zhenhuan chuckled lightly, his bloodied hand brushing against my cheek. "Don't cry; I'll feel pain too."
"How about you die with me?" he said half-jokingly, noticing my pale face and laughing again. "Just kidding; I won't die, nor will I let you get hurt." He held me in his arms, whispering repeatedly, "I love you..."
The smell of blood filled my nostrils.
I looked at Lu Zhenhuan, and a barely noticeable sadness flickered in his eyes.
Lu Zhenhuan, what happened?
I vaguely remembered that the Lu Zhenhuan from my childhood was not like this.
The Lu Zhenhuan from my childhood would pick mulberries for me and give me his chicken legs.
He would stand in front of me when my father hit me.
But now, Lu Zhenhuan seemed like a demon.
What happened to make him this way?
"Lu Zhenhuan, what is wrong with you?"
He patted my head and said,
"It's nothing, sister. You just need to remember that your brother will protect you."
"I won't let anyone hurt you."
"Not even myself."
After that day, Lu Zhenhuan changed.
He no longer controlled me as he used to; instead, he gave me plenty of freedom.
Yet every time I saw Lu Zhenhuan's face growing paler by the day, my heart sank deeper.
