"Who are you?" Ginger Daoist slowly turned around and asked the alluring voice.
"Demon Path's Lone Ghost," the voice replied. "I wonder if you can answer the question I just posed."
"Your cause has no effect, nor is there a solution," Ginger Daoist answered. "However, ever since our first encounter, I have been studying the bowing meditation that you have been obsessed with for many years."
"In the end, I came to understand one thing."
"What is it?" Ghost Fangzi looked at Ginger Daoist with great interest.
"The Sea of Suffering is boundless; turning back is the shore," Ginger Daoist said, 'looking' at Ghost Fangzi and speaking slowly.
"What other way do I have to turn back?"
"Just like your Buddhism says, put down the butcher's knife, and you can become a Buddha right away."
"Become a Buddha?" Ghost Fangzi exclaimed frantically. "Years ago, when I was still sweeping the floor, I never thought about becoming that so-called Buddha. So now, after all these years, I still have no intention of becoming a Buddha!"
"If there are no Buddhas in the world, then there are no demons," Ghost Fangzi concluded. "However, demons can kill. Therefore, when my demons are exterminated, only then will it be time for the so-called Buddha."
"So right now, I'm not in a hurry to take action against you. As for you, just wait patiently."
The Middle-Aged Taoist seemed to casually recount this past event.
"If there are no Buddhas in the world, then there are no demons?" Shaoming repeated this phrase thoughtfully. "That makes sense."
"What nonsense!" I stood up from the Meditation Cushion. "If that's the case, then why do people worship Buddhas? Why do people believe in Buddhas? Do you really think that a Buddha is just someone sitting on a lotus platform?"
The Middle-Aged Taoist sat on the ground, quietly allowing me to speak loudly.
"The Way is indifferent; this has been acknowledged since ancient times. Why should you live a stable life? Are you to be slaughtered? Go and see those who starved to death in famine, or those who were worked to death through lifelong oppression! Is it not just death? There are many more pitiful people in the world, far more miserable than you! Why should someone lead you out of this Sea of Suffering? Is life indebted to you? When in misfortune, do you just wait for someone to show compassion? That compassion is genuine, not foolishness!"
Shaoming stared at me blankly; she had never seen such a Yin Zheng'an.
"All Sentient Beings suffer; this is also a saying from Buddhism, right? Why does Buddhism emphasize this word 'suffering'? Because this suffering is what you deserve! What you need to do is break free from suffering, not expect someone with a kind heart to pull you out. And those who pull you out—are they truly kind? Not necessarily! This kind of kindness is a facade! Those who pull you from the Sea of Suffering are actually harming you! A truly kind person, upon seeing you struggling in the Sea of Suffering, will not simply pull you out; instead, they will teach you how to climb out of the Sea of Suffering yourself. This is what is meant by teaching one to fish."
The only flaw in this matter was that initial Evil Cultivator, Wang Ji. Without him, Ghost Fangzi might have lived as a farmer; even if he remained an Abbot, that would still be quite good. Ghost Fangzi's downfall was entirely related to Wang Ji, but Ginger Daoist was not innocent either.
If Ginger Daoist could have saved those villagers, perhaps things would have been much simpler. Even if he could save just one villager, it would have prevented such a drastic change in Ghost Fangzi.
"Everything stems from those Evil Cultivators," I said.
The Middle-Aged Taoist gave me an approving look and continued, "Not long after, Ghost Fangzi was directly suppressed by the authorities. When we were about to execute him, someone intervened."
"Who was it?"
"Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva."
"Ksitigarbha?" I was too sensitive to this name; after all, its owner had saved me several times and according to Yama, he had high hopes for me.
"Ksitigarbha's intervention had no effect. He still harbored a trace of goodwill in his heart. Therefore, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva wanted Ghost Fangzi to enter the Sea of Blood and understand the true meaning of the Sea of Blood and the Sea of Suffering."
"And what happened next?"
"Ghost Fangzi has escaped." The Middle-Aged Taoist said casually, "The Underworld has been unstable lately, and we suspect it might be due to the Sea of Blood. Sure enough, a great evil has escaped from the Sea of Blood."
"He didn't die?"
"No, and you should have seen him before." The Middle-Aged Taoist continued, "It's him who attacked you at JZ Normal University."
"Is it him?" I exclaimed, surprised. This was the first time I learned the name of the mastermind behind that attack. "But wait, his strength back then was not even comparable to Uncle Xing. Wasn't he suppressed by Demigod Buddha?"
"That's different. When he was in the Sea of Blood, he was left with only a fragment of his soul. After he came out, he must have undergone a body snatching."
"Is body snatching very damaging?"
"It weakens a lot, especially affecting Blood Qi," the Middle-Aged Taoist replied. "So this time, Ghost Fangzi is your mission."
"What???" I looked at the Middle-Aged Taoist in confusion. "Aren't you here to help?"
"Haven't I already helped you? My Ebony Hairpin is still with you, isn't it?" The Middle-Aged Taoist said unhappily. "Also, the things in this Demon Tomb were prepared for you."
"Having dealt with most of Ghost Fangzi already, let me address the question you initially raised." Finally getting to the main topic: "This corpse is the Golden Crow that was shot down by Hou Yi back in the day."
"The essence of the Golden Crow is actually fire, which is your Sun True Fire. After attaining enlightenment, Sun True Fire transformed into the form of the Golden Crow."
"The Golden Crow is indeed the sun; no one would dispute that. However, few know that Hou Yi Shoots the Suns was not meant to shoot down the sun."
"Hou Yi's target has always been the Golden Crow itself or perhaps the Crown Prince!"
"Hou Yi should be the first person to dare challenge the Ancient Court and truly anger it. In fact, many ancient myths are essentially stories of the ancients opposing the Ancient Court."
"This includes events like Dayu controlling the floods and Kua Fu chasing the sun, among others. The Investiture of the Gods marks a formal war initiated by humanity against the Ancient Court or the demon race."
"All myths serve to cover up one fact—humans and demons have always been mortal enemies!"
"On the surface, it seems that the court is very tolerant of the demon race, but in reality, this is because the demon race has completely lost its vitality and cannot resist the court anymore. However, you must know that beneath the Sea of Blood, many great evils are actually from the demon race! Therefore, the court will definitely not allow the demons to rise again, especially those who represent brutality."
"Humanity has begun to try to integrate demons into this era, but that does not mean demons can regain control of this world. Thus, the Sea of Blood is a thorn in the court's side!"
"As for this Fox Spirit beside you," the Middle-Aged Taoist glanced at Shaoming, having likely already figured out her true nature, "if Tushan had not already submitted to the court and become a Red Thread Fairy, the court would absolutely not allow them to continue existing as a family."
"And that so-called Old Fox Immortal must have this in mind. She wants this Fox Spirit to take you as her master, and now you are one of the Court Envoys of the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs. Coupled with your master's influence, I imagine that Old Fox Immortal feels quite secure now," the Middle-Aged Taoist expressed great disdain towards Fox Fairy Grandmother.
"Don't speak about my grandmother like that!" Shaoming protested fiercely.
"Shaoming, sit down!" I said with a dark expression. "Senior, please return to this Golden Crow. I'm not very interested in the grievances between the court and demons; what exactly are you planning?"
"It's simple. We want you to subdue that Sun True Fire and then completely eliminate Ghost Fangzi. After that, we will collaborate with people from the Underworld to repress the Sea of Blood once more."
"Sun True Fire is an unparalleled Dao fire; how could I easily subdue it?"
"The Sun True Fire is attached to the bloodline of Golden Crow. You just need to refine the Golden Crow Bloodline."
"Refining bloodlines? Isn't that an Evil Technique?"
"Blood Cultivation comes from the demon clan's Ancient Ritual. What you need to master is, of course, this authentic Ancient Ritual of the demon clan."
"I hope to receive your guidance, senior." I bowed.
"Haha, a child can be taught! Yin Zheng'an, here, take this!" A ball of Radiance appeared in the hands of the Middle-Aged Taoist: "This is the Blood Refinement Ancient Method of the demon clan, the last remaining inheritance in the world. As long as you absorb it, you can refine the Golden Crow Bloodline."
"The last remaining inheritance? That's truly rare." I licked my lips and said, "If I absorb it, I can refine the Golden Crow Bloodline, right? Once I've refined the Golden Crow Bloodline, I can master the Sun True Fire, correct? With mastery of the Sun True Fire, I can suppress Ghost Fangzi, and then join forces with Underworld to subdue the Sea of Blood. That way, I can surely become the representative of The Three Realms of Earth and Man, right?"
"Once I become the representative of The Three Realms of Earth and Man, reaching Celestial Rank will be within my grasp. Achieving Celestial Rank means I can live a long life without worries, right?"
Shaoming looked at me as if wanting to say something while I was talking to myself.
"Senior." I looked up at the eyes of the Middle-Aged Taoist: "Thank you for arranging everything so well; you truly are a descendant of Jiang Taigong."
I reached out to take the ball of Radiance, but a hint of indescribable melancholy rose on the face of the Middle-Aged Taoist.
"However, it's a pity," I said, looking at the ball of Radiance in my hand, "I'm not as obedient as you think."
Before I finished speaking, I suddenly sprang up and directly slammed the ball of Radiance onto Shaoming's head.
"What I dislike most is your saying 'dead enemy.' Let me show you why she should call me master!"
