“Xia Liyi, your knowledge of history is impressive. You tell me, the Eastern Victory Divine Continent shouldn't be located in Xi'an, right?”
“The Eastern Victory Divine Continent is probably just a fantasy, with no corresponding location,” Xia Liyi replied. “However, Flower Fruit Mountain should be by the sea.”
“By the sea, yes. The East Sea Dragon King and Sun Wukong should be neighbors.”
“But can someone explain to me why we see such magnificent scenery as Water Curtain Cave underground in the ancient tombs of Xi'an? This doesn't make sense.”
“You, a cultivator, are talking to me about science?” Xia Liyi scoffed.
“By the way, Xia Liyi, why are you not surprised at all to see me and Zhang Fan, who are spellcasters?” I suddenly thought of something and asked.
Like when Lin Miaomiao first saw me subdue a Hungry Ghost; she was almost scared to the point of being unable to take care of herself. But why does Xia Liyi seem to have little reaction to everything I show her, aside from initially struggling to accept that there are indeed monsters in this world? Sometimes she even seems to take it for granted.
“I started engaging with ancient texts long ago,” Xia Liyi adjusted her glasses and said slowly. “The reason I got into ancient books is simple: to inherit the family business.”
“My family isn't some renowned family of archaeologists or anything,” Xia Liyi said mysteriously, making an expression. “You might want to brace yourself; my family could be descendants of Longhu Mountain!”
“Hmm,” I scratched my head. “And then?”
Xia Liyi looked at my completely unresponsive expression and became frantic. “It's Longhu Mountain! This is a sect that has already been lost! And you give me that kind of expression?”
Seeing Xia Liyi getting increasingly exasperated, I was speechless. If just being a descendant of Longhu Mountain was supposed to astonish me that much, then I might as well spend my life doing nothing but sitting in a chair acting dumbfounded.
“That sister, it's not that I'm trying to bring you down,” I thought for a moment and tried to be more tactful. “The big guy you were with earlier is the only heir of Maoshan.”
“!!!” Xia Liyi
“And the girl who is with me, the one who calls me Master, that’s Tushan, from the same place as Su Daji. Of course, Su Daji and Shaoming's family have been estranged for a long time now.”
“!!!” Xia Liyi
“Oh, right, there should be another person in this tomb who is also into Cultivation, but he is from Laoshan.” My name is Li Su.
“” Xia Liyi, she has already started to lose her words.
“And then there's me, allow me to properly introduce myself.” Since we have shared life and death as companions, I decided not to hold back any longer.
“My name is indeed Yin Zheng'an, but I am a practitioner of Eight Treasures Mystique and the head of Underworld Affairs in the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs, enjoying a room-level treatment. At the same time, I also serve as a Human Judge in the Underworld. Although I am not very competent, at least I am part of the management.”
“Oh, by the way, this is the Death Register.” With a wave of my hand, a thin booklet appeared: “Don’t be fooled by its thinness; basically, anyone still alive can be found in here. By the way, do you have anyone you want to check? Given how familiar we are, I’ll give you a 30% discount.”
“” Xia Liyi
“By the way, just so you know, I’m quite familiar with Black and White Impermanence. Birth, aging, illness, and death—everyone will eventually meet those two. If you need anything, just give me a shout; I won’t charge you any handling fees.”
“Do you think money will die?” Xia Liyi said irritably.
“You have no idea.” I said with a mournful face: “Although my titles sound quite intimidating, over there in court it’s only a little over two thousand a month. The Underworld doesn’t pay salaries; if I don’t hustle to earn some extra cash, I might really starve to death.”
“Is it really that tough for cultivators nowadays?”
"Isn't it? Do you think this is like taking a civil service exam in the human world? And with a retirement pension? Once you reach Celestial Rank, you really won't have any salary. The Jade Emperor will only give each person a peach at the Peach Banquet as a full attendance reward."
"Cough, cough, I got sidetracked. But what exactly is going on here? Have we really arrived at Water Curtain Cave? The next trial won't be retracing Journey to the West, right? That would be a disaster for us."
"It shouldn't be. After all, even if we were to retrace Journey to the West, we should start from Chang'an. How could we come out from Water Curtain Cave?"
"Chang'an? Isn't Chang'an Xi'an?" I muttered to myself. "It can't be that I guessed it right."
"It should be," Xia Liyi hesitated. "It can't be that unlucky, right?"
"Whatever. Since we've been thrown into this place, let's first visit the Monkey King's former residence."
"Isn't 'former residence' used to describe someone who has passed away?"
"Is it? Can't it just be called a former residence once someone leaves?" I said nonchalantly.
"You’re not wrong." A hoarse voice suddenly echoed, startling both me and Xia Liyi.
"Who?" I waved my hand, and three Flying Swords floated in the air.
When I left the trial space earlier, I had stuffed everything into the Seed Bag.
"Don't be nervous." A grayish Fuzzy Ball emerged from somewhere. The Fuzzy Ball was about the same height as a person and appeared to be a humanoid creature. But wouldn't the humanoid creatures in Water Curtain Cave be monkeys?
"You are," I respectfully said.
After all, the Water Curtain Cave is a celestial dwelling. Although it seems to have fallen into disrepair, it is hard to believe that anyone living here isn't a descendant of Sun Wukong or something similar.
After all, Sun Wukong is the leader of his clan. Even though he later became a monk, before he was subdued by the heavenly court, he had no restrictions on his behavior; plus, as the head of a group, it is inevitable that there would be some scheming female subordinates trying to curry favor.
Monkeys are not human, and it's likely that even the monkeys don't know who their real father is.
"Sword Control Technique?" The Fuzzy Ball revealed a pair of murky eyes, staring at the Flying Sword floating in mid-air. "Which sect's disciple are you?"
"Uh," I was indeed caught off guard. After all, my true master is a Pervert, and while I have my suspicions about his identity, I dare not confirm it.
"I once practiced at Mount Fangcun."
This was also true; not only had I been to Mount Fangcun, but I had also received teachings from the Bodhi Patriarch. The ultimate techniques of Eight Treasures Mystique and Three Talents Sword Formation were both taught to me by the Bodhi Patriarch.
"Mount Fangcun? Slanting Moon Three Stars Cave?" The murky old eyes brightened as if they were two shining lamps.
"It was just a place where I practiced."
"Have you met the Bodhi Patriarch?"
"I have."
"What kind of person is he?"
"He has a strange temper, but he's a good person, somewhat like Dumbledore."
"Dumbledore?"
"He's like the Bodhi Patriarch from another country."
"Oh." Fuzzy Ball sighed lightly, "I see."
"Does Mount Fangcun really exist?" Xia Liyi asked me, "What about the Great Thunder Sound Temple? What about Luojia Mountain? Do these places exist too?"
"If you have time, come with me to my school, and I'll introduce you to some real immortals," I said.
There are quite a few immortals near JZ Normal University, like the Night and Day Wanderer, Black and White Impermanence, and the principal of JZ Normal University, Wenquxing, Uncle Xing, and Red Boy.
These are all genuine immortals.
"I wonder who you are, senior?" I asked.
"Me?" Fuzzy Ball hesitated for a moment and then said slowly, "I'm just a wild monkey from the mountains."
A wild monkey? A wild monkey can speak human language? A wild monkey can live in Water Curtain Cave? A wild monkey knows about Mount Fangcun and the Bodhi Patriarch? Whether you believe it or not, I certainly don't.
However, I didn't call him out on it; after all, if he didn't want to reveal more, there must be a reason behind it.
"Earlier, you mentioned 'he's not wrong.' I wonder which of my words you were referring to?" I asked. When I was chatting with Xia Liyi before, Fuzzy Ball had said something similar.
"There's nothing wrong with what my friend said before." Old Monkey seemed to recall something, his voice trembling as he said, "This is the home of the Monkey King. The Monkey King, he has long since died!"
What? The Monkey King is dead? No way, isn't he the one who could still sweep through a large number of demons even five hundred years after his title was bestowed? No, he was a fierce monkey and just like that, he died? He died many years ago?
"Follow me." Old Monkey stepped deeper into the cave. Just a few steps in, it was evident that Old Monkey's legs were no longer obedient, trembling as if his body were supported by matchsticks.
Xia Liyi and I hurried to follow. To be honest, Old Monkey didn't look that old, and he shouldn't be the kind of Old Monkey who would lie on the ground and deceive people.
We followed Old Monkey to the deepest part of the cave. At the very back of the cave, there was a stone wall, and in front of it stood a high arched throne.
Strangely enough, this Water Curtain Cave looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages, yet that throne and its surroundings were exceptionally clean, with hardly any dust at all.
On the throne lay a suit of armor.
The armor looked old-fashioned but exuded an indescribable aura. The two feathers on the crown stood upright, and the entire armor resembled golden dragon scales layered upon one another. There were also a pair of boots in yellow and red, suggesting extraordinary prowess.
"Golden Chainmail, Phoenix Wing Purple Gold Crown, Lotus Silk Cloud Shoes." Xia Liyi named these three famous pieces of equipment.
"Isn't this the equipment that Sun Wukong borrowed from the Dragon King? He hasn't returned it yet?" I remarked as I looked at the treasures on the throne.
"Borrowed? What do you mean borrowed? Can borrowed treasures fit our king so well? These three treasures are only worthy of our king to wear; they were made specifically for him! They are merely temporarily stored at the Dragon King's place. When our king wants to wear them, won't those Old Dragon Kings have to obediently present them one by one?"
Old Monkey glared with wide eyes and shouted loudly. At that moment, there was a glimmer of light in Old Monkey's eyes, no longer clouded as before.
