Being an archaeologist is a meticulous job, requiring one to squat in one position for a long time to clear away a bit of dirt. However, it is also a job that doesn't require much fuss, as they are so focused on the artifacts that they often appear less refined themselves.
That said, there is one exception to this: female archaeologists! It is in a woman's nature to love beauty; even when roasting meat, women still want to look good, right?
Compared to Lin Miaomiao, this archaeologist's sister is already quite understated. She wears a long coat that conceals her curvy figure and goes without makeup, yet there is a faint scent of lavender about her.
The sister stands beside me, slowly chewing on a steamed bun while chatting with me occasionally. Just then, the young man who had been blocking our way approached us with a fawning expression, cautiously saying,
"Junior Sister, the potatoes are ready. Want to come and try some?"
The sister helplessly stood up and gave me a look filled with both grievance and resignation. I could already imagine what the food over there would be like.
Halfway through her walk, she suddenly turned back to me and said, "By the way, my name is Xia Liyi."
Xia Liyi? What a nice name! Unlike that professor Wu Zhixiang whom I had mocked earlier, I genuinely think this is a good name.
As I watched Xia Liyi walk away, the young man's expression changed instantly. No longer fawning, he looked at me with the ferocity of a bull whose mating rights had been taken away.
"I warn you not to have any improper thoughts about Junior Sister. You better keep an eye on her!"
After saying this, the young man didn't wait for my response and walked off.
Zhang Fan beside us was blushing, trying not to laugh but unable to contain himself, focusing all his attention on the roasted rabbit in front of him.
"What are you laughing at?" I snapped. Standing up, I waved my hand, and the flames on the ground flared up instantly, charring Zhang Fan's rabbit.
"The rabbit is so cute; how can you eat it?"
Zhang Fan: "..."
After finishing lunch, the Archaeologist team had already explored the Ritual Platform in the morning. They decided to head out again at noon, and after discussing with Lin Zhao, we decided to join them.
Zhang Fan and the others left their packs at the camp, taking only the equipment they might need. A few stayed behind to watch over the camp while the rest set out.
I couldn't put everyone's belongings in my Seed Bag; it was like not putting all your eggs in one basket. What would happen to the others if something went wrong with me?
The Archaeologist team consisted of eight people. Besides Wu Zhixiang, Xia Liyi, and the young man who had previously obstructed us, there were five students majoring in Archaeology. However, those five clearly did not get along with the young man; they walked together while he stayed close to Xia Liyi, trying to flatter her with jokes. Xia Liyi, however, seemed indifferent to him.
Xia Liyi probably got annoyed by the young man and pretended to tie her shoelaces, falling to the back of the line. We happened to be following behind the Archaeologist team, so Xia Liyi effectively blended into our group.
"Hey, you still haven't told me your name," Xia Liyi said as she bounced over to me. To my surprise, Zhang Fan noticed and took a few steps forward, separating us.
"My surname is Yin, Yin Zheng'an."
"Yin as in Yin Zhiping?" Xia Liyi asked with interest.
"Yes, that's right. I'm Yin from Yin Zhiping," I replied helplessly.
I really couldn't think of any other famous people with the surname Yin.
Xia Liyi chuckled and patted my shoulder in a comforting manner. Suddenly she seemed to remember something: "You're not in the military, are you?"
"You have a good eye," I replied casually.
Of course not; I didn't look like a soldier at all. Soldiers didn't dress like me. Besides, we were both here as tourists.
"So what do you do for a living?" Xia Liyi asked curiously.
"My profession? That's complicated. On the surface, I'm a student at JZ Normal University, but in reality, I'm a top-notch spy for the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs, known as Zero Zero Seven! I'm also a Human Judge under Yama King of the Ten Kings of Hell. How impressive is that? Just saying it could land me in a mental hospital for life.
"I'm just a student," I could only deflect.
"A student? Which university? What year are you in?"
"Sister, are you conducting a census?"
"Hurry! Hurry!"
"Classified!" I said mysteriously.
Xia Liyi shot me an eye roll.
At that moment, I suddenly sensed a killing intent. Following the source of the aura, I saw that young man. Xia Liyi noticed it too; she pouted and hugged my arm, seemingly doing it on purpose for the young man's benefit.
If looks could kill, that young man would be dead first. My Spiritual Sight isn't for show!
"Who is that? Your boyfriend? You two aren't having a fight, are you?" I asked awkwardly.
"Boyfriend? You're overthinking it," Xia Liyi replied. "That's Professor Wu's nephew, named Wu Zhishang. He wants to pursue me. He's not bad-looking, and his family background is decent. But his attitude is unbearable; he acts like it's an honor for me to be pursued by him. He's the one who makes unwanted advances, and on top of that, he can't even cook well."
Wu Zhishang? No Intelligence? The Old Wu Family sure knows how to pick names!
My girl, is your standard for choosing a partner based on cooking skills? You shouldn't be in Archaeology; you should go to New Oriental where there are plenty of good cooks! Besides, chefs have a pretty high status now!
"You don't like him?"
"That's annoying!" Xia Liyi corrected seriously.
Actually, the Ritual Platform wasn't far from our camp, but because we were in the jungle, our movement was very slow, and we didn't dare to go too fast. We also had to accommodate the Archaeologist team in front of us.
Suddenly, we came across a relatively open area where the trees had disappeared, revealing a patch of ground paved with Bluestone, about fifty to sixty square meters in size.
I immediately recognized this as a Ritual Platform built according to Gossip, but it must have been constructed quite some time ago. After all, the Bluestone was already showing signs of cracking, and although there were no trees, quite a few weeds had started to sprout. In the center, there was a circular platform with several steps leading up to it, but it was already quite dilapidated, with one corner having collapsed.
Many hermit Masters like to build a Ritual Platform around their secluded homes, but none are this large, and this Ritual Platform was clearly not something that could be constructed by an individual. Generally, the main purpose of a Ritual Platform is to honor Supreme Virtuous Ones or Ancestors. However, there is another type of Ritual Platform whose primary function is suppression. The creation of such a Ritual Platform is much more complex; only someone well-versed in Yin-Yang, Eight Trigrams, Five Elements, and Feng Shui with strong magical abilities can establish it; otherwise, it cannot fulfill its purpose.
Moreover, the things that a Ritual Platform suppresses can vary widely. Some merely suppress fortune, some are used to suppress family ancestral graves, and of course, some are meant to suppress Evil Spirits.
Although I couldn't set up a Ritual Platform myself, I should still be able to discern its function. Unfortunately, this Ritual Platform was too ancient. I already had only a vague understanding of Ritual Platforms; moreover, I couldn't even see its operational trajectory and couldn't identify what kind of Ritual Platform this was.
Zhang Fan and I exchanged glances, indicating that we both couldn't recognize what kind of Ritual Platform this was.
I activated my Spiritual Sight and looked toward the high platform of the Ritual Platform, but all I saw was a mass of darkness.
We couldn't make out any clues, but the Archaeologist team was different; they immediately confirmed that this was a relic from the Song Dynasty and that it was relatively well-preserved and held significant scientific value!
From the Song Dynasty? Not just the Ritual Platform; even a dog from that era would have significant scientific value!
However, I actually knew a few people from the Song Dynasty: Yama King's former self Wenquxing and his subordinates Dynasty Ma Han Zhang Long Zhao Hu were all from that period, as well as Black and White Impermanence. If I could travel back to the Song Dynasty, I would probably do quite well.
The Archaeologist team had already started working busily; each one methodically examined the Ritual Platform. Lin Zhao cast me an inquiring look, and I shook my head to indicate that I would observe for now.
I had to admit that although the Old Wu Family had an unremarkable name, the Archaeologists were quite professional. Before long, Wu Zhixiang had already summarized quite a bit of information.
I was aimlessly wandering around the Ritual Platform, hoping to see something of value, when I unexpectedly ran into Wu Zhishang.
Wu Zhishang looked at me provocatively and said in a harsh tone, "What are you looking at? Do you even understand? Don't step on the important artifacts!"
He then made a gesture to drive me away, but I certainly couldn't let him succeed. I stepped aside and avoided No Intelligence.
Wu Zhishang pointed at my nose and said, "I told you to get lost. Can you identify the dynasty based on the patterns? Can you determine the age based on the degree of weathering? You don't know anything and just wander around, yet you still want to hit on my junior sister."
I thought to myself that I couldn't identify the dynasty based on patterns, nor could I determine the age based on weathering. But if I wanted to hit him, I could bind his hands and feet; I wondered if he would still be so arrogant lying on the ground.
"Wu Zhishang!" Wu Zhixiang called out, raising his head. "Focus on your own work!"
Wu Zhishang walked away in frustration. I noticed Xia Liyi not far away giving me a faint smile; I couldn't tell if she was laughing at me or at Wu Zhishang.
"Boss, did you see something?" a sneaky-looking Strongman asked me.
This Strongman wasn't some profound practitioner or a mysterious ability user; he was from a family that had been in the Tomb Raiding business for generations. In terms of insight, he was much sharper than this group of Archaeologists.
"What? Did you discover something?"
"Boss, look here. These Azure bricks are actually Tomb Bricks used for building graves."
