"Dinglingling~"
The school bell rang throughout the campus. Even in college, the bell was used as a signal for classes to start and end. It was rare that I actually completed a full day of classes—today was taught by Wang Ni.
After the invasion of JZ Normal University, the staff from the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs became insufficient. Even Red Boy was dragged into the mess by Uncle Xing. Originally, Red Boy, as a monk, was supposed to prioritize compassion and not always resort to fighting, but Uncle Xing paid him every month.
Red Boy: "What a good time, bring me my Fire Spear."
Uncle Xing: ""
Red Boy didn't have to attend classes anymore and was busier than I was, only able to check on Qu and Huan's relationship a few times. Their bond seemed to be getting better.
Red Bean Love Noodle Shop.
When I entered the noodle shop, only the Landlady and the cashier Luan were inside.
"Where are Qu and Huan?" Both the Landlady and Luan were sitting at the Counter, each with a pen writing in their notebooks, calculating accounts.
"Those two girls went for afternoon tea," the Landlady said without looking up.
"When did they develop this habit?" I asked in surprise; when did these two become so sophisticated?
"Isn't it because of your Red Boy's influence?" The Landlady organized the accounts she had calculated and swept her loose hair back behind her head.
"What a wasteful thing, and he even brought along two Sisters," I shook my head and sighed.
Red Boy wasn't afraid of being surrounded by single dogs, but now it was indeed a time when there were many wolves and few sheep. I wondered if female demons had any market? What with fox spirits and Azure Wind Antelopes, female demons generally looked good and were easy to take care of. However, those that turned into skunks were definitely not acceptable.
"Landlady, two bowls of noodles please." As I spoke, a couple entered through the door.
"Alright, just wait a moment." The Landlady gave me a glance and said, "Yin Zheng'an, you go cook the noodles."
"Why do I have to cook the noodles?" I protested. I just came here to rest for a bit.
"Stop talking back and go quickly," the Landlady shot me a look, and I obediently stood up.
The Landlady makes noodles by kneading a lump of dough into a thin strand and then boiling it. But I wasn't that meticulous; I rolled the dough into a flat sheet and then cut it into appropriately thick knife-cut noodles. Knife-cut noodles shouldn't be boiled for too long, and soon enough, I brought out two bowls of noodles.
"Two bowls of Red Bean Noodles, coming right up." With Qu absent, I had to take on the role of a server.
"Hey, bro, new here?" the guy in the couple looked up at me.
"What? Are you still thinking about that beautiful waitress?" I teased.
The girl shot a glare at the guy, who lowered his head to eat his noodles in embarrassment.
"Landlady, do we need to add any medicine?" I asked as I walked over to her.
The so-called "medicine" refers to red beans. The Landlady's red beans and red threads have the same effect; they are treasures that can be used as bedroom supplies.
If two people truly love each other, eating the Landlady's red beans will strengthen their bond; however, if it's just two people who happen to be together, once they eat the red beans, they should understand each other's feelings, which means they're not far from parting ways.
"That girl is a demon," the Landlady said as well.
"This is possible? Is it so open now? Humans and demons can date?"
"What’s wrong with that? Do you have some kind of racial discrimination?" The Landlady shot me a glare.
"Don't be silly, you'll get blown up," I quickly waved my hand.
The Landlady chuckled lightly, shook her head, and continued to check the accounts.
Before long, Red Boy returned with Huan and Qu. Huan walked ahead alone, while Qu and Red Boy walked side by side behind her, almost holding hands.
Since seeing Qu, Red Boy seemed to have fallen for her completely. I wonder if Guanyin Bodhisattva would approve of them.
"Hey, Hong, do you have time tonight?" I deliberately teased Red Boy in a loud voice.
"What for?"
"I need to think about whether to leave the door open for you," I said, putting my hand on Red Boy's shoulder and joking.
"Go away, I have a mission tonight," Red Boy brushed my hand off.
"What mission?"
"Secret!"
This guy is still trying to act mysterious with me.
After having dinner at the Landlady's place, Red Boy wouldn't be going home since he had a mission. What a guy with no sense of humanity when there's a female involved.
Red Bean Affection usually closes at nine o'clock in the evening. Since I had nothing else to do, I stayed there until the Landlady and the others finished work.
By the time I got home, it was already midnight. The moon tonight was quite large, a big round disc hanging in the sky, and the trees lining the street stood like the Four Great Kings on either side of the road.
"A pot of wandering makes it hard to swallow; after you left, the wine warms memories and longing grows thin. Water flows east, how does time steal away? Flowers bloom only once, yet I missed the moment."
I hummed cheerfully as I walked towards home. Although I had been learning Taoist Arts from my master for some time, I had not neglected some basic qualities that young people should have. I really enjoyed listening to music, especially songs with a Chinese style. I once thought that if I hadn't followed my master to learn Taoist Arts, I might have pursued writing lyrics instead.
"Who is playing a tune on the pipa, 'East Wind Breaks'? Time peels away on the wall as I see the moment; I still remember that year when we were all so young, but now the sound of the zither lingers while I wait for you who never came."
Before long, I arrived at the bottom of Lin Miaomiao's villa. Looking up, I saw that Lin Miaomiao had already turned off the lights and gone to bed. It couldn't be helped; Lin Miaomiao was a very disciplined girl. Although she usually acted carefree and mischievous, she was very strict about going to bed early and rising early.
I opened the door; there was no one on the first floor. Uncle Hua and the others had left a while ago but had not returned yet. I wondered what they were up to.
Tonight, Red Boy wouldn't be coming back. I didn't know if he really had a mission or if he planned to spend the night at Red Bean Affection. Previously, only Qu would stay behind to watch the shop, but now Qu had gained a companion—Huan!
The boss lady of Red Bean Affection, Ah Wan, provided meals but not accommodation. The cashier, Luan, actually rented a place elsewhere. However, Qu and Huan couldn't afford to rent a place outside, so the landlady let them stay in the shop directly. This solved their accommodation problem and also alleviated concerns about theft in the shop.
But with Huan's intelligence, I estimated that even if Red Boy and Qu were getting cozy tonight, she could sleep soundly until dawn.
During this time, Red Boy and I had been living in Lin Miaomiao's underground garage. The landlord Lin Miaomiao not only received no rent from us but also had to bear the risk of her hard-earned snacks being raided at any moment.
However, even though Red Boy and I lived in the underground garage, we had transformed it into a very comfortable space. Typically, underground garages are damp, but I had set up simple Fire Talisman formations in every corner to keep it dry.
Moreover, since Red Boy started earning money, he developed a habit of spending lavishly like me; he not only added a sofa without permission but also installed wireless Wi-Fi here. We often sat together with our phones in hand and were almost turning into internet addicts.
I strongly suggested sending Red Boy to that professor named Yang to see whether his electric shocks were more effective or if Red Boy's True Fire technique was stronger.
"Ah~" Upon returning here, I immediately sank down onto the sofa that Red Boy bought.
Red Boy has already become the top warrior under Uncle Xing. Unlike me, who had to go through a tough internship period, he was already a full-time employee when he entered the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs. However, Red Boy is also very efficient; Uncle Xing gave him a commission-based task system, meaning the more tasks he completes, the higher his salary. Currently, Red Boy's actual salary is already much higher than mine.
Not long after I became the person responsible for direct communication between the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs and the Underworld, Uncle Xing gave me the title of "Team Leader." However, this so-called "Team Leader" title sounds impressive, but in reality, I am the only member of this team, which is why I hold that title. Oh, by the way, I do have an intern under me, who is the former ‘Weirdo Brother’, now known as ‘Zhang Fan’, a Berserker from Maoshan.
What can I say? My strengths lie in combat and control; my direct combat abilities are actually quite weak. On the other hand, Zhang Lei excels in direct confrontation, so we complement each other well.
However, it is quite frustrating that someone from Maoshan doesn’t know how to draw talismans.
Due to special reasons, Wang Ni doesn’t need to take on missions recently, so she has genuinely taken on the role of 'class teacher.' Although more than two-thirds of our class will definitely fail at the end of the term, for Wang Ni, if she manages not to severely injure any student throughout the semester, that would be a victory!
Recently, for some reason, Night and Day Wanderer and Black and White Impermanence have been rarely seen. Although previously Night Wanderer and White Impermanence didn’t often stay at JZ Normal University, it seems like Old Black has also disappeared. The cafeteria recharge station has been taken over by a new lady, and recent tasks have been directly assigned through WeChat.
According to Old Black, the technological level in the Underworld is actually higher than that in the human world. After all, those great scientists who went to the Underworld can request to stay there to continue researching technologies from their previous lives. However, due to the existence of magical powers in the Underworld, science isn't very prevalent. It is said that there are already flying Iron Men in the Underworld.
Would you choose to spend years learning to fly yourself or spend money to buy an airplane? I would definitely choose the former because I could never afford an airplane in my lifetime.
Uncle Xing is still as usual, sharpening his weapon when he has nothing else to do. However, it seems like he has been alone in the Sports Office. Jin has disappeared for a long time; even Qing at the front desk and Old Man Ai who loves watching plays have not been seen for quite a while.
Thinking about these trivial matters, I comfortably stretched out on the sand. To be honest, this place is much more comfortable than being in a temple.
Life is so beautiful.
