There are many ways for ghosts to form. Some are vengeful spirits that cannot enter hell after death, while others willingly abandon their physical forms to cultivate as Evil Spirits. There are also natural spirits that are born between the realms.
The naturally occurring spirits are referred to as ghosts, and there are many types of ghosts that can be found in various places. Just as humans can be good or bad, so too can ghosts. Although there is no official classification for ghosts, they can still be categorized based on certain characteristics.
They are generally divided into three categories. One type includes ghosts that have an impact on the world, such as Ghost Messengers and Virtuous Ghosts. There are even wealth-bringing ghosts in existence. Another type consists of ghosts that have no effect on the world; they simply exist without causing harm or doing good. For example, in a dirty alley, there may be a ghost known as the Unclean Alley Ghost, which remains in that alley and rarely comes out. It neither harms anyone nor does any good deeds, so generally, no one pays attention to its presence. Lastly, there are harmful ghosts that pose threats to humans. One such ghost is the Anger-Eating Ghost, which feeds on the life force of weak or seriously ill individuals. Once their life force is consumed, those individuals will die. Thanks to the efforts of wise predecessors, most of these harmful ghosts have been captured and sent to hell. However, after this recent attack on hell, those captured ghosts have escaped back to the human realm.
Yama assigned me the task of capturing those escaped ghosts. The ghosts that flee from hell have distinguishing features; they will have a section of iron chain on their feet, so once you see such a ghost, you can capture it without hesitation.
Before leaving Yama's Hall, Yama King handed me an old gourd that looked quite worn. The gourd was engraved with various Exorcism Talismans and sealed with a brass stopper. This was the gourd used by Zhong Kui to capture ghosts; as long as I throw the captured ghost into the gourd, I wouldn't need to worry about it anymore. This was indeed a useful item, at least I wouldn't have to run back and forth to hell.
Fortunately, Uncle Xing had sent over some help just in time; if I were alone, I would surely be exhausted. Suddenly, I felt like Weirdo Brother wasn't so annoying after all.
Previously, due to Yama King's urgent summons, I had left my body in the park since Qu was watching over it. When I entered hell, my soul had to leave my body first; during that time, my body was essentially like a corpse. If any well-meaning bystander had called the funeral home while I was away, I would have been in real trouble.
When I returned, it seemed Red Boy and Weirdo Brother had already finished their fight; remnants of brass heavy swords were scattered around.
What? Is Weirdo Brother's heavy sword a disposable item? That's quite wasteful!
In contrast, Red Boy was leaning against a stone step with a Fire Spear in one hand, panting heavily and looking flushed as if his energy had been completely drained.
"Ango, you're back?" Red Boy looked at me and stood up. "Are you sure that guy came from Maoshan?"
"What's wrong?"
"That guy only knows how to use brute force and he's quite strong," Red Boy said with exasperation while rubbing his forehead. "He keeps pulling out heavy swords; every time he breaks one, he just pulls out another. I'm exhausted."
"Where's Zhang Lei?" I looked around but Weirdo Brother was nowhere to be seen.
"Over there." Red Boy pointed towards a tree in the distance where someone was struggling desperately at the top of a branch.
"Why did you hang him up so high?" My mind was filled with confusion.
"If I don't hang him up, there's no way to stop him," Red Boy replied, equally perplexed. "He's a madman, and we can't use heavy force. What do you want me to do?"
"Come on, bring him down. I want to give it a try," I said with interest. Red Boy seemed tired, and since I hadn't seen Weirdo Brother's abilities yet, I thought it would be a good opportunity to test him out.
Red Boy flew up and pulled Weirdo Brother down from the branch with one hand.
As soon as Weirdo Brother hit the ground, he charged at me like a raging bull, shouting and swinging his Brass Sword.
Upon closer inspection, I noticed that Weirdo Brother's eyes were filled with red, and he was swinging the Brass Sword wildly with both hands.
"Frenzy? Warrior?" I felt as if struck by lightning. Weirdo Brother had this ability?
In the Ancient Era, there was a special tribe where each member possessed unique combat abilities. Once they unleashed their physical potential, not only did their power become immense, but they could also reverse their bloodline to their brain, making them impervious to pain.
This tribe had even instigated wars between clans due to their uniqueness and had dominated an era. Their leader had a resounding name—Chiyou!
I never expected that Weirdo Brother was actually a descendant of Chiyou and had perfectly inherited the combat abilities of Ancient Times. But how did he end up in Maoshan? Did Maoshan also recruit guardians?
As the saying goes, strength can overcome skill; a few can topple many. The best way to deal with brute force is quite simple—either dodge or use technique to neutralize the strength. Of course, all this cleverness comes from not being able to win outright. If Wang Ni were here, she could probably send Weirdo Brother back to his mother's womb with just one punch.
I pulled out three short sticks from my Seed Bag, as I wanted to try out the Three Talents Sword Formation I had learned earlier.
Wooden sticks are different from swords; they are lighter and easier to control. Using sticks instead of swords made things much easier, and I didn't have to worry about injuring Weirdo Brother.
"Three Pure Edict, summon Zheng Yuan; Three Talents unsheathe, slay demons and cut down immortals." I formed a hand seal, and the three wooden sticks floated behind me. Fortunately, it was noon and there weren't many people in the park, so I could confidently use this Sword Formation.
The Three Talents Sword Formation, derived from the Zhu Xian Sword Formation, encompasses not only the Sword Formation but also various methods of control and application related to the Sword Control Technique. Overall, the Three Talents Sword Formation is more like an advanced application of the Sword Control Technique, with its core still imitating the 'Three Talents' of the Zhu Xian Sword Formation.
The Three Talents Sword Formation consists of three formation diagrams. In addition to mimicking the 'Three Talents' of the Zhu Xian Sword Formation, it also includes a 'Thousand' Sword Formation formed by 999 celestial swords and a 'Plow' Sword Formation created by seven celestial swords.
However, the Sword Formation aspect is quite complex, and at my current level, I can only simply utilize some basic Sword Control Techniques.
Three wooden sticks trembled slightly in mid-air, as this was my first attempt at controlling three targets, and I was somewhat unaccustomed to it.
I pointed my finger at where Weirdo Brother was located, and the three wooden sticks flew to my front simultaneously: "Go! Go! Go!" With a light tap of my finger, the three wooden sticks rehearsed their sequence and flew toward Weirdo Brother in three different directions.
The first wooden stick aimed for Weirdo Brother's lower body. Given his rapid movements, his stability would surely be affected. By disrupting his balance, he might not fall but would definitely slow down significantly.
As the first wooden stick approached Weirdo Brother from about five meters away, it began to spin and gradually lowered in height. I estimated that when it struck Weirdo Brother, it would hit right at knee level.
The second stick targeted Weirdo Brother's back, which was a blind spot. If the first attack succeeded, Weirdo Brother would lose his balance, allowing this stick to strike while he adjusted. If Weirdo Brother dodged the first stick, then this stick's mission would be to cover for the third stick's attack.
The third stick hovered above Weirdo Brother's head, waiting for an opportunity. If the previous two sticks failed, it would serve as my backup plan—though I couldn't control all three sticks to attack simultaneously.
However, I seemed to have underestimated Weirdo Brother's abilities. He saw the three wooden sticks flying toward him and used his Brass Sword to sweep away the first stick. Then he jumped and directly severed my second stick in mid-air.
Although Weirdo Brother's Brass Sword lacked a blade, his swinging speed was enough to break a wooden stick.
Goodness, I must avoid being hit by that heavy sword; otherwise, my life would be spent in a wheelchair. My strength has never been my advantage; I'm only slightly stronger than an average person. However, my strengths lie in my speed and ability to control flames.
Activating Wind Walk beneath my feet, I caught the wooden stick hovering above Weirdo Brother's head. It seemed that Flying Sword techniques were ineffective against him; I could only rely on my speed advantage for close combat.
With a light tap on the ground, I dashed in front of Weirdo Brother. Then I quickly sidestepped and slid behind him before he could react. I swung the wooden stick infused with magical energy forcefully against Weirdo Brother's shoulder. As he winced in pain and turned around, I leaped up and performed a backflip landing in front of him again, striking downwards with the wooden stick into his abdomen.
However, Weirdo Brother is currently in a state of bloodline frenzy; how can he feel any pain? He rested the heavy sword against his waist and spun around in place.
I quickly dodged out of the circle. Goodness, Weirdo Brother has high blood pressure, high defense, and explosive damage now. If I get hit by that brass heavy sword, I would be done for on the spot!
But Weirdo Brother seems a bit strange right now. Not only are his eyes bloodshot, but his entire head is also starting to swell with blood. This is bad; he can't control his frenzy state—he's about to lose control.
I hurriedly took out the Octagonal Taiji (the Octagonal Taiji is the same thing, an octagonal piece of peach wood, one side depicting a Taiji Diagram, with Gossip arranged around it, and the other side featuring eight primitive symbols). After infusing it with magic power, I drew out the Taiji Diagram and pulled it under Weirdo Brother's feet, waving my hands to bind him.
Weirdo Brother was instantly immobilized. Seizing the opportunity, I rushed to his side and slapped a Clear Mind Talisman directly onto his forehead. The flush on Weirdo Brother's face immediately receded.
"Ah." I breathed a sigh of relief. It was hard to come by free labor; if he died now, I would be at a huge loss!
Seeing that Weirdo Brother was gradually stabilizing, I knew his frenzy had been lifted, so I released the Taiji Diagram.
"There's an opening!" Just as I released the Taiji Diagram, that peculiar fellow shouted and swung the brass heavy sword straight at my face.
I couldn't react in time to use Wind Walk to dodge and could only raise my hand to Protect Your Face.
Like a shooting star, I flew directly to Qu's side, my head tilted as I lost consciousness.
"Zhang Lei, I bought a watch last year," I murmured before losing awareness.
If I don't wake up, this will be my last words.
