I never expected that the sword handle, which I had struggled to activate before, could actually be powered by Azure Mana, and it even had the effect of exorcising evil.
I raised the lightsaber and examined it closely. Azure Mana emitted strands of light along the sword handle. The light was not glaring; in fact, it had a somewhat transparent quality. Yet, I could feel the sharpness hidden within that glow.
The lightsaber couldn't harm people, but it could cut through Evil Energy. With each swing of the sword, I exorcised the evil from my students at an increasing pace.
Just as I was about to resolve all the Infected on the Fifth Floor, a rumble erupted on the playground.
A burst of flames shot up, and within that fire, a shadowy figure could be faintly seen.
What kind of trouble is this now?
I quickened my pace, exorcising the Infected on the fifth floor one by one and laying them down in the corridor. Just then, people from the Execution Office arrived; it seemed that the Infected downstairs had been dealt with. After giving a few instructions to the Execution Office personnel, I leaped onto the railing and activated Wind Walk towards the playground, pushing off with my feet like an arrow shot from a bow.
Since the playground was the first place to suffer during the incident, all evacuation efforts prioritized it. By the time I regained consciousness, Lin Zhao and the others had already been evacuated, leaving only Red Boy and a few others to clean up the scene.
This wasn't the first time a fire had broken out on the playground; I had already set fire to some dark energy before. Although the playground was spacious, there wasn't much to burn, so despite the flames rising high, it didn't cause a wildfire.
Before I even reached the playground, I caught a whiff of burnt grass. When I finally saw the playground, I couldn't help but be startled.
The playground originally had a plastic running track and grass for soccer, but now there was nothing left. The plastic surface had melted away, and the grass was charred black, with smoke rising from various burnt objects. The entire area was enveloped in an unpleasant smell of burnt plastic.
Holding my breath and gathering my energy, just before landing, I activated Spiritual Sight. The playground was shrouded in thick black smoke; visibility was nearly zero.
In the center of the playground was a large pit surrounded by flames that had yet to extinguish. Lying in that pit was what appeared to be an underage child.
My mind buzzed—could it be Red Boy? No way; he has divine protection.
I rushed to the edge of the pit, where a person lay face down, making it impossible to identify who it was. It seemed that I would have to go down to find out for sure.
Just as I was about to descend, a hot hand tightly grasped my ankle.
"Ango." Immediately, the weak voice of Red Boy came through that hand.
"Red Boy?" I exclaimed in surprise. It turned out that the person in the pit wasn't him, but his voice sounded just as bad.
There was no time for further questions; I quickly picked up Red Boy and leaped out of the playground.
In my arms, Red Boy felt like a hot coal, radiating heat all over. Although I could still sense his heartbeat, I was burning with anxiety.
Even though Red Boy was already one of the immortals, having transcended into a higher being, he still experienced birth, aging, sickness, and death. He could suffer from headaches and fevers too. The only difference was that their lifespans were much longer than ordinary people, and they possessed certain abilities and authority.
As soon as Red Boy entered my embrace, my spiritual power surged from my Dantian like it was free, flowing into Red Boy. His breathing gradually stabilized, but he still felt as hot as a coal.
My spiritual energy wandered around Red Boy's body. I noticed that he had no external injuries; it was just that his internal energy was in complete disarray. It seemed like there was a fire rampaging inside him, displacing his viscera.
This was serious; it wasn't an injury that an ordinary doctor could treat.
The fire inside Red Boy should be the True Fire that could ignite everything in the world. For example, even the Supreme Old Lord used this fire for alchemy, which shows how powerful it is.
The recent flash of fire and Red Boy's condition must be related somehow. But who was that child in the pit?
I carried Red Boy directly to the school gate. Old Black, being from the Underworld, had methods targeting souls and couldn't engage in battle without the orders of Yama, so he had been waiting at the gate.
"Old Black, hurry, find a bed!" I shouted before even landing.
Old Black must have seen Red Boy in my arms and quickly opened the door to the security room, which contained a bed for the security personnel to rest on at night.
I didn't have time to explain anything to Old Black, so I hurriedly placed Red Boy on the bed. Before long, black smoke began to rise from the bed, accompanied by a burnt smell. (I had only dared to hold Red Boy using magic before.)
I quickly picked Red Boy up again; if he lay there any longer, he would really set the place on fire.
Red Boy seemed to have a bit of consciousness left: "Hurry, Ango, there's trouble at the playground."
Even with trouble, I couldn't just leave you here. What do you think I am?
"It's okay, Night Wanderer and the others are here. How are you feeling now?"
"I'm fine." Red Boy struggled, saying, "True Fire cough cough lost control again; it's not the first time."
As he spoke, black smoke kept billowing from his throat.
This was the first time I had encountered such a situation.
"Ango, the enemy is very strong," Red Boy said before his head tilted, losing consciousness.
From the word "enemy," I understood that Red Boy had been attacked. It seemed that the person in the pit was indeed an enemy, not a friend.
Old Black brought in a bucket of water from outside and splashed it onto the bed with a loud sound: "Should we throw some on?"
He pointed at Red Boy, who I was holding in my arms.
Red Boy was heating up inside; if suddenly a bucket of cold water were thrown on him now, do you think Red Boy would survive to call out my name again?
"Maybe not." I took out a Clear Mind Talisman and stuck it on Red Boy. However, it was useless; before long, the talisman was ignited.
"Take him to Three Rivers Water," a crisp and pleasant voice came from the doorway. It sounded like a gentle girl.
I turned around and saw Meng Jiangnu.
Previously, Yama King had forced a task upon me: Meng Jiangnu's tears could no longer brew the Meng Po Soup that allowed people to forget their past lives. It was said that a way could be found in the human realm, so I was tasked with taking care of Meng Jiangnu for a while.
Meng Jiangnu was not a Ghost Messenger from the Underworld, nor was she simply a soul; she existed in a special state between Demon God and spirit. Therefore, Meng Jiangnu could not use the passage that Old Black and I used; she had to emerge from the ghost gate of Fengdu and then take a vehicle to meet up with me.
"Three Rivers Water should help him recover a bit," Meng Jiangnu said.
Three Rivers Water is renowned alongside Weak Water of the River, holding a similar status among true waters as True Fire does. Moreover, Three Rivers Water is said to cleanse everything. Most importantly, it can suppress True Fire.
Red Boy's injuries could no longer be controlled by external forces; only he could suppress True Fire himself. However, Three Rivers Water is not ordinary water and can definitely help Red Boy contain True Fire.
But Red Boy couldn't enter the Underworld through the passage used by Wuchang Ghosts. Did that mean I had to take the subway to send Red Boy to Sichuan?
"I'll go," Old Black said. "There are several special passages in the Underworld that allow people to descend into the human realm. You may not know them, but I do."
"Alright, I'll leave Red Boy in your hands." Although Old Black's words were often unreliable, he was very responsible when it came to tasks, so I felt at ease leaving it to him.
Old Black enveloped Red Boy with Soul Power and vanished in an instant.
I looked at Meng Jiangnu. "How did you get here so quickly?"
"Someone offered to take me along the way," Meng Jiangnu replied. She wasn't dressed like someone from the Underworld; instead, she wore more modern clothing, though still maintaining a conservative style.
Three black lines appeared on my forehead; it seems that even beautiful women have their privileges.
"Have you eaten?" I asked, trying to make conversation, since I wasn't very familiar with Meng Jiangnu.
"I don't need to eat."
"Just drink soup?" Meng Po must be good at making soup.
"Meng Po Soup is just plain water diluted with my tears and then boiled."
So Meng Po Soup doesn't even have salt; that's quite something.
"Aren't you afraid that consumers will think it's just plain water and complain to you?"
Meng Jiangnu thought for a moment, seemingly pondering what a consumer is. After a while, she seemed to come to a realization and said:
"Once they drink the soup, they forget the taste."

What a clever little trickster.
