Lying on the ground, I felt my heart, which was racing from the intense battle, gradually slow down. To adjust my state, I began to circulate the energy in my Dantian and slowly practiced my breathing.
Fighting is the best way to enhance combat power. After this period of continuous battles, I was able to utilize many techniques that I had not mastered before, and I could clearly feel that the amount of magical energy my Dantian could hold was slowly increasing.
I forced back the surge of blood rising in my chest, and suddenly everything went dark before me. I bit my tongue and immediately brought myself back to clarity.
I couldn't rest yet, at least not until the crisis was resolved.
Struggling to get up from the ground, it felt as if my feet were stepping on cotton; I was completely drained. At that moment, the door opened, revealing Red Boy, who had been on the second floor.
Red Boy looked no better; sweat had completely soaked his clothes, and his hair clung to his scalp. He was panting heavily, and I had never seen Red Boy in such a disheveled state.
"Ango, we've secured the entrance to the school. We're currently capturing those who have been infected on campus."
Finally, some good news. Most of the students had safely exited the campus, but the situation on the playground was particularly severe.
"Are you hurt?" I asked Red Boy. "If you still have strength, I'll go outside to help. You stay here and guard these people."
"I'll go; you stay here," Red Boy insisted as he prepared to fly outside.
I quickly grabbed him. While Red Boy's combat ability was indeed higher than mine, his presence wouldn't be of much practical use out there. If I went, at least I could draw a few more talismans.
"I'll handle it; you rest for a while. Later, I'll find a way to clear a path for you all." I looked at Red Boy with a serious expression for the first time. "Can you ensure that this group is safe?"
"I can!" Red Boy replied firmly, clenching his fist.
"Alright!" I activated Wind Walk and leaped down from the second floor, disappearing from the sight of the Infected below before they could react.
I almost transformed into a streak of light and reached the school gate in just a few steps.
I wasn't sure if it was due to exhaustion or my inability to control such speed, but just as I intended to stop, I was suddenly pushed hard from behind and fell flat on my face.
"What the hell," I thought, feeling like my bones were about to shatter.
"Is this how you greet someone?" A teasing voice came from ahead. Looking up, I saw Old Black grinning at me.
"After such a big incident, you can still laugh." Seeing Old Black made my tense nerves relax a bit.
I got up while holding my waist and placed a hand on Black Wuchang's shoulder. Old Black didn't dodge. Unfortunately, I forgot that this guy usually didn't have a physical form.
Once again, I found myself face down on the ground, having fallen hard.
"Ouch." My teeth felt like they were about to fall out; that rascal Old Black.
"How's it going? Do you still need to lean on me?" I wanted nothing more than to punch that infuriating face.
"You wait!" I said fiercely. A gentleman's revenge is never too late! I remembered that. But I quickly realized the special nature of Old Black's work; did he even fear death? He had long since adopted an indifferent attitude towards life. If it weren't for this being an emergency rather than a disaster, he would probably be happy about the performance bonuses he was about to receive.
Turning around, I saw Sun God and Wang Ni; they were using the Exorcism technique I provided to help those infected students. I hurried over to them.
"How's it going? Do you have enough talismans?"
Wang Ni shot me a glance that left me confused.
"What good are those few talismans of yours?" Sun God looked up and said, "Fortunately, we still have a weapon support. Relying on you, we would be lost."
Weapon support? Who is it?
I glanced at Wang Ni and the others using Exorcism. It was indeed not my work; I had yet to master this type of talisman that could function without relying on one's own magical power.
"Who drew this talisman?" I asked in surprise. "It's definitely much better than mine."
"Of course! Do you think you're the only one who can draw talismans?" Old Black walked over from behind, looking quite pleased with himself.
"So you can draw them too?" I replied without looking up, slightly mocking.
"Well, not exactly. It was drawn by Night Wanderer."
Night Wanderer? I'm quite familiar with Sun God, but I've never actually met Night Wanderer.
"Where is Night Wanderer? I want to meet him." It seems that Night Wanderer's Talisman Magic is far superior to mine; it would be great to seek some advice.
"In the security room, still drawing talismans. You can go yourself; take a break too, as we will need you later," Wenquxing came over and patted my shoulder. "You've worked hard."
"It's nothing." I waved my hand and strode toward the security room.
As soon as I opened the door, I was startled and almost involuntarily shouted 'Uncle Jiu!' Why? Because Night Wanderer had a square face with eyebrows that met in the middle, forming a unibrow. With his graying hair and wearing a somewhat old-fashioned yellow Daoist Robe, he was meticulously drawing a talisman at the table.
This is too bizarre. The Night Wanderer looks exactly like the Lin Zhengying we know, also known as Uncle Jiu! Am I going crazy, or is the world going crazy? What the hell.
"Old Black, what's going on?" I turned to ask Black Wuchang.
"What's the big deal? The Sun God and Night Wanderer are essentially the same position; they aren't specific deities. If someone with better abilities comes along, of course they can take over. To be honest, I wanted to be the Sun God back in the day, since it's one of the more leisurely roles among all the deities. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned; I died too early."
"What does your early death have to do with this?"
"At that time, there was no shortage of Sun Gods, just a need for a Black Wuchang. And since I was born dark-skinned..." Old Black gave me a knowing look.
Do you think I'm an idiot? By your logic, Song Bao would be the most suitable to take your place. No, wait, there's also a place called Africa.
"So this is really Lin Daozhang himself?"
"You can ask him yourself," Old Black said with a wink.
After all, he was my childhood idol; I admired him the most back then. Suddenly seeing him in this situation caught me completely off guard. How should I greet him?
"Um, Master Lin," I started.
The Night Wanderer looked up, his gaze imposing: "Who are you?"
"I'm a temporary worker from the Heavenly Bureau of Human Affairs, currently responsible for liaising with the Underworld." I left out that I'm a Judge because it wasn't necessary.
"Oh, Yin Zheng'an, right?" The Night Wanderer glanced at me before lowering his head again to draw symbols. "Don't call me Master Lin anymore; that's from a past life. Just call me Night Wanderer."
Master Lin actually knows me directly. I don't know why, but even in front of a well-known Deity like Red Boy, I wouldn't show such an expression. Perhaps the impression of time is too deep.
"Since you're here, come over and draw some talismans. I think we still need a lot," Night Wanderer said without looking up, quickly drawing talismans with great speed.
"Okay." I took out yellow paper and a pen.
I had been using an ordinary pen until Cui Fu Jun gave me the Judgment Pen, which I started using. In fact, different pens can affect the power of the talismans, but these are external factors; it mainly depends on the skill of the person drawing the talisman. For example, my senior Zhong Kui left behind a Talisman that could keep Zombies immobile for thousands of years without needing any magical power to activate it.
When Night Wanderer saw the Judgment Pen, he let out a light "oh" and continued to focus on drawing talismans.
The talismans drawn by Night Wanderer were completely different from mine. I was still using the original talisman as a sample, copying it exactly. However, Night Wanderer had already begun to draw talismans that were pardoned in his own name. To advance further in Talisman Magic, one must draw talismans pardoned in their own name, no longer relying on generic incantations like The Supreme Old Lord Issues Orders with Urgency. To go even further, one would need to be able to draw talismans in mid-air without paper. If someone truly mastered Talisman Magic, they could represent a Talisman with a single gesture, and the consumption of magical power would be minimal.
I still had to honestly draw my original Exorcism Talisman. The so-called original talisman is one that anyone can use; it is the foundation of all Talisman Magic. Even if one can use higher-level Talisman Magic, the basic structure of the drawn talisman still relies on the original talisman; it simply changes the universal symbols into ones that are more personal and suitable for oneself.
In fact, after mastering Talisman Magic to its utmost limit, there would be no difference between drawing original talismans and exclusive ones; sometimes, original talismans might even hold more power. It's akin to returning to simplicity. However, until one fully understands Talisman Magic, original talismans are still inferior to exclusive ones. After all, exclusive talismans belong to oneself while original talismans are merely borrowed.
The reason my drawn talismans require magical power to activate is not just because they are original talismans but because I do not yet have the ability to store magical power within the symbols themselves; thus, I can only rely on external magical power for activation. However, this does not mean my Talisman Magic is lacking; after all, my talismans can already be activated by others.
The level of Talisman Magic is linked to time and experience. Given my age, being able to wield such Talisman Magic is already quite impressive.
