Today is the last day of Military Training. After the noon drill ends, we will have a half-hour break, and tomorrow we can officially start classes. Lin Zhao is leading our class in practicing formations, and when he sees me, he turns and comes over.
"How's it going? Any issues?" I ask Lin Zhao.
"Not really, and no other possessed individuals have shown up. Maybe that person gave up when they saw we were starting to be on guard."
"That's for the best. I'll stay here with you today." With Uncle Xing not around, I need to keep an eye on things.
Red Boy and I went to the snack shop, each carrying half a watermelon, and sat under the shade eating. The people practicing formations for Military Training looked like they were about to burst with frustration...
A whistle blew, signaling a break. In an instant, the neatly arranged lines on the playground scattered to various shady spots. Red Boy and I were unexpectedly surrounded.
"What the hell? What do you want? Are you robbing us or something?" I was already prepared to sell my teammate out to escape; no one would want to hit someone as cute as Red Boy.
"It's the instructors. As long as we take you down once, we won't have to train before the drill."
Damn, I've been lured into a trap...
No worries, if they can't catch me, I can still run away! With a leap, I stepped on the crowd surrounding me and broke free from their encirclement. As for Red Boy, he could fend for himself. Once I jumped onto the playground, I quickly shook off those chasing me.
Suddenly, another group of people came toward me. Ha! You think you can catch me? Not a chance. Wait a minute, those people aren't students; they're not wearing camouflage uniforms and look like they range in age. Some appear to be middle schoolers while others look like old men. Upon closer inspection, their eyes are all gray. This is bad; they are possessed individuals.
Although those people charged at me, they ran past without stopping. Oh no, their target is the students.
This is serious...
Let's call them Invaders. The Invaders lunged at the students without saying a word and bit them. The students were caught off guard and barely had time to react or run away. With more people pushing forward from behind, it wasn't long before a large number had been bitten.
The bitten students first convulsed for a moment before collapsing onto the ground. Then their pupils slowly turned dead gray as they stood up and began attacking others like the Invaders.
Before long, those at the front had all been infected while those behind remained oblivious. At this moment, I desperately called out to Lin Zhao and his comrades but found that Lin Zhao had already been possessed. To avoid causing chaos, we hadn't disclosed that there were possessed individuals among us, so Lin Zhao's comrades were frozen in place in confusion.
"Quick! Evacuate the students!" I shouted with nearly all my strength.
At that moment, several more Invaders crawled in from other areas; their main targets were those affiliated with the Execution Office who had combat capabilities.
Some reacted quickly, like Red Boy; he immediately took to the air and hurriedly evacuated the students outside. I quickly called Sun God; although he didn't have combat abilities, having him come would at least help secure the playground area.
I simply informed Sun God of the situation and asked him to notify Black and White Impermanence, but it seemed to be too late; I had already seen some Infected running out of the playground.
The school sounded the air raid alarm, and the response was quite swift. The announcement began instructing students to evacuate the school.
At that moment, a protective barrier formed by magical energy surrounded the entire school. The voice of Wenquxing echoed in my ear.
“Yin Zheng'an, the school has a protective formation set up initially, and only the main gate can be used to exit. You need to escort everyone out of the campus first. I will guard the school gate personally and won’t let any possessed individuals leave.”
It seemed that my task was to clear the crowd; otherwise, more people would become infected. Most of those in Military Training had already been infected, and the playground was filled with swaying camouflage uniforms. Passing by Weirdo Brother, I knew these individuals were likely afraid of the Golden Light Spell, and Exorcism could dispel the evil among them. I activated Wind Walk, golden light emanating from my body as I stepped onto the shoulders of an Infected and circled around the playground. My goal was to see if there were any survivors left. Strangely, those Infected did not bite their own kind.
“Ah~” A scream came from the restroom where Weirdo Brother had been caught, and it sounded like a girl.
Sure enough, in the girls' restroom, a delicate Sister was trapped in a stall. Surrounding her were already infected individuals, some of whom had begun to crawl into her stall.
I didn’t know whether to call this girl lucky or not; either way, I had to save her.
I kicked open the restroom window, gathered all the golden light into my Peach Wood Sword, and threw it into the crowd of Infected. They feared the golden light and parted to make way. Quick on my feet, I yanked open the restroom door, dodging a trash can thrown by the girl inside, and lifted her up. Grabbing my Peach Wood Sword again, I pushed aside several lecherous men blocking my path, kicked off from the wooden door of the stall, and jumped out through the window I had just entered. Holding someone made it less easy than before, so I placed the girl on a larger tree beside the playground—thankfully, those Infected couldn’t climb trees yet. I instructed her not to move around and continued searching for survivors on the playground.
After circling a few times, there were no survivors left. There was nothing else to do but seal off the playground to prevent everyone from rushing outside.
Returning to the tree, I picked up the rescued Sister, who was now ice-cold from fear, and took her to the school gate.
Wenquxing, Old Black, Old Bai, and Sun God were all at the gate managing the evacuation of people; we had to ensure that no Infected could escape from the school or it would lead to serious trouble.
As soon as I landed, someone took the Sister from my arms, checked her over, and then let her go.
“How is it inside?” Wenquxing asked anxiously.
“Not optimistic; most of the students in Military Training have already been infected,” I said with a frown. “There’s definitely someone behind this; we’re in big trouble this time.”
If one Weirdo Brother was this hard to deal with, how could we handle such a large group?
“Have they all evacuated?” I asked.
“There are still one library building and one teaching building blocked,” replied Sun God.
“Damn it, this is trouble,” I muttered. “What about Red Boy?”
"He should still be inside, no need to worry," Wenquxing replied while busy.
"You all figure out the library, I'm heading to the teaching building." I left a stack of Exorcism Talismans behind: "Stick this on the head of someone possessed; it needs to be applied with magical power and will have some effect."
Without waiting for their response, I leaped up and moved between the trees lining the road. The campus was already filled with Infected, but I couldn't see those initial Invaders carrying the virus, which was strange. Never mind, there’s no time to think about that now; saving people is more important.
Upon reaching Wenquxing's teaching building, I finally understood why it was blocked. The main door of this building had to be pulled outward, preventing the Infected from entering. However, when students and teachers were preparing to evacuate, the area outside was already swarming with Infected.
Entering through the second floor of the teaching building, I found a corridor filled with nearly hopeless students. They stared blankly at the Infected blocking the door below, a dead silence enveloping them, with faint sounds of crying in the background.
"Who is the teacher?" I quickly needed to find the leader.
A middle-aged Bald Man squeezed through the crowd. One of his Glasses was already broken, yet his scholarly demeanor was still visible, though mostly overshadowed by his anxious expression.
"Do you know how many students are still here?" I asked urgently.
"I'm not sure about the specifics, but we came down from the third floor. There are five floors in total here, and almost all classrooms are in use," Bald Teacher replied.
There are still so many; what should we do? Carry them one by one to the school gate? That would wear me out completely. But this building has glass doors; if they really get broken under pressure, then the whole building would be in trouble. So we need to evacuate as quickly as possible.
I took out a Golden Light Talisman, infused it with magical power, and threw it downstairs. At first, the Golden Light Talisman emitted golden light, creating a clear area for the Invaders to move aside. However, it quickly lost its brilliance, and the newly cleared space was soon blocked again.
