"Are we not going to the hotel? How did we end up in a place like this?" Zhang Yang asked with a smile.
"You silly boy, when I tell you to come, you just come. Why would you carry so much money as an outsider?" Earring Boy said, taking off his belt. The buckle was brass and shiny. With a snap, Earring Boy folded the belt and gave it a couple of flicks.
The other two boys stepped forward, surrounding Zhang Yang. He noticed that in this dilapidated courtyard, only one or two rooms had lights on, while the others were in ruins, clearly abandoned. This was a shantytown, likely about to be demolished. These boys seemed to have no background and might be homeless, living here.
"This is where you live, right? If you're planning to rob me, you shouldn't have brought me here. If I escape, it would be easy to find this place," Zhang Yang said, looking at Earring Boy.
"Do you think you can run away?" another boy replied.
"Even if I can't escape, after you take my money, won't you have to let me go? I won't come back for revenge," Zhang Yang said with a serious expression, almost as if he were helping them analyze the situation.
The boys were taken aback; he had a point. Were they really going to kill him? They clearly didn't have the guts for that.
"Not sure what to do now, huh?" Zhang Yang continued, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it.
"Damn it, get him!" Earring Boy suddenly shouted. The other two boys immediately moved closer, one of them grabbing a stick from nearby.
"Wait, don't hit me! I'll just give you the money," Zhang Yang said as he pulled out his wallet, revealing a thick stack of red bills inside. Earring Boy swallowed hard, his movements instinctively pausing.
"Alright, hand it over!" Earring Boy demanded.
Zhang Yang rummaged through his wallet for a while before finally pulling out a golden-colored 50-cent coin and weighing it in his hand. "Is this enough?"
"F*** you! Give me something better!" One of the boys with the stick charged at Zhang Yang and swung the stick at his head.
"I didn't say how much I would give you," Zhang Yang seemed to remain still, but the boy's stick missed its target. The boy stumbled forward, nearly losing his footing and falling to the ground.
"Not bad! Let's all go together!" Earring Boy shouted, and the three of them charged forward. In a flash, they suddenly lost sight of Zhang Yang.
Then, everyone felt a kick on their backs, and with a series of thuds, the three of them fell into the mud.
"I still have over an hour left. You all need to get a stick or a knife or something; this won't do," came Zhang Yang's voice from behind.
Earring Boy stared blankly at Zhang Yang and suddenly shouted, "You're the mysterious person that Lie Ge mentioned!!!"
"Lie Ge?" Zhang Yang suddenly recalled that night when he first met Zong Lingxu. After leaving the bar, he ran into Zong Linghan again, and they were robbed by a group of boys led by someone named He Lie. In the end, He Lie was convinced to learn martial arts from Zhang Yang, who told him to go back to school first.
"Are you talking about He Lie?" Zhang Yang asked with a smile.
"Yeah! Big Brother!" Earring Boy got up from the ground and called out to the other two, "Hurry up and call him Big Brother!"
"What is He Lie doing now?" Zhang Yang inquired.
"He's in high school! We can only see him once a week!" Earring Boy replied.
"And what about you guys?" Zhang Yang continued to ask.
"We don't have much to do usually; we just live in this house and take on some private detective work," Earring Boy explained. His nickname was Earring, while the other two boys were named Little Black and Er Fei. The girl was his girlfriend, named Zihan. They were all orphans, and He Lie often helped them out, so they held him in high regard.
"Private detective?" Zhang Yang asked after hearing this.
"Just helping someone keep an eye on things. We're young, so it's not easy to attract attention," Ear Stud explained.
"With your getup, how can you not attract attention?" Zhang Yang laughed.
"There are many small-time delinquents like us, and even if we get noticed, people won't think we're tailing someone. They'll just assume we're messing around or trying to steal something," Ear Stud said seriously.
Zhang Yang thought for a moment. "Can I stay here for a few days?"
"No problem. Quickly, prepare a room for the big brother," Ear Stud waved his hand, directing Little Black and Er Fei. Then he added with a grin, "Big brother, can you teach me a couple of tricks?"
"Sure. But you have to help me with something first," Zhang Yang said suddenly.
What Zhang Yang wanted them to help with was to follow Luo Huasheng. It sounded ridiculous; what kind of person was Luo Huasheng? These small-time delinquents would surely be discovered if they followed him. However, as Ear Stud said, even if they were found out, so what? Luo Huasheng wouldn't take it seriously.
Moreover, Zhang Yang only wanted them to keep an eye on any other places where Luo Huasheng might stay besides his normal home address.
After explaining everything in detail, the three of them replied in unison, "Starting tomorrow, we guarantee to complete the task!"
Zhang Yang took most of the cash from his wallet, which amounted to several thousand yuan, and handed it to Ear Stud.
"We haven't shown our respect to big brother yet; how can we take your money?" Ear Stud repeatedly waved his hands. "If I tell you to take it, just take it. Don't taxi rides cost money? At 10 o'clock, Zhang Yang returned to his room and took out a Satellite Phone. This phone was given to him by Shen Zhiyu back then but had never been used.
"Where are you?" After the call connected, Shen Zhiyu asked directly. There was no background noise, so he must be at home or in a very safe place.
"I am in Shanzhou." Immediately, Zhang Yang recounted everything he knew about Luo Huasheng.
"What you said, I suspect the higher-ups are also aware. Don't act rashly," Shen Zhiyu advised.
"I think the higher-ups won't act rashly at all," Zhang Yang chuckled. "There's nothing else; I just wanted to inform you about Luo Huasheng. I will continue to evade capture."
"Be careful. If necessary, go abroad to hide for a while. The crackdown on tigers is very intense right now. If Luo Huasheng gets caught, you can come back later. By then, the truth will be clear, and everything will be easier to handle," Shen Zhiyu said.
"Okay. Take care." Zhang Yang hung up the phone. He didn't want to tell Shen Zhiyu about his plan to directly eliminate Luo Huasheng. He also believed that the higher-ups might deal with Luo Huasheng, but generally not in the short term. Moreover, Luo Huasheng had already set up escape routes overseas and could flee at any time, making it difficult to catch him later.
After putting away the Satellite Phone, Zhang Yang felt extremely fatigued and lay down on the bed, preparing to rest.
A knock on the door interrupted him. When he opened it, he was surprised to see Ear Stud standing there with Zihan beside her.

"Big Brother, do you want Zihan to keep you company tonight?" Ear Stud suddenly said, while Zihan's face turned beet red.
