Zhang Yang took a closer look and noticed that among the arriving vehicles, two were armed police vehicles, one was a local police car, and another was an ambulance. Suddenly, he remembered that Shen Zhiyu had mentioned contacting Political Commissar Li of the Armed Police Corps. It seemed that Shen Zhiyu had already reached out, and the armed police were here to provide support, albeit a bit late. 0

"Is Political Commissar Li here?" Zhang Yang leaped onto the villa wall, gathered his breath, and shouted, "I am Zhang Yang from the Heavenly Mechanism Group!" 0

Before long, the vehicles came to a stop. A voice from one of the armed police vehicles came through a loudspeaker, "I am here. What is the situation now?" 0

"The rioters have been defeated, but there are injuries. Hurry and provide medical assistance," Zhang Yang shouted again. 0

The ambulance drove directly to the villa entrance, and medical personnel carried Ding Weiwei and Yu Qingwei onto stretchers. 0

"You go with the ambulance first; we will address any further issues later!" Political Commissar Li sent Zhang Yang onto the ambulance and then began coordinating with the police to clean up the aftermath. 0

As he opened the villa's main door and looked at the numerous "injured" in the yard, Political Commissar Li was taken aback. 0

"Did these two do all of this?" 0

"Report!" After a while, an armed police soldier ran forward and saluted, saying, "A man was found on that small hill over there; all his limbs are severed. Nearby, we also discovered a severely damaged sniper rifle!" 0

Political Commissar Li frowned and immediately commanded, "First, carry the injured down on stretchers. Quickly contact the hospital and send more ambulances!" 0

While they were cleaning up the aftermath here, the ambulance carrying Zhang Yang, Ding Weiwei, and Yu Qingwei sped toward Beijing City Area. 0

On the way, Zhang Yang made two phone calls: one to Godmother Time Rush at Military Medical University. She is an expert in neurosurgery and would be most suitable for operating on someone shot in the head; the other call was to Ding Weiwei's father, Ding Zhaotang, urging him to come immediately to Military Medical University in Yanjing. 0

Upon arriving at Military Medical University, Time Rush was already waiting outside the operating room. 0

Ding Weiwei was pushed into the operating room. With everyone in position and after initial examinations revealed that a bullet was lodged in her bone causing a concussion and cerebral hemorrhage leading to her unconsciousness. The surgery primarily involved removing the bullet, repairing the wounds, and clearing out any clotted blood. 0

The operating room lights turned on; both Ding Weiwei and Yu Qingwei were in surgery but not in the same room. 0

Yu Qingwei's surgery was quick. As he was wheeled out of the operating room, he smiled slightly at Zhang Yang. He had undergone local anesthesia; the bullet had been removed without major issues. Zhang Yang accompanied Yu Qingwei to his hospital room. "You should go back; I'm fine," Yu Qingwei said upon reaching his room. "I could use some sleep anyway." 0

Yu Qingwei wasn't joking; he genuinely wanted to rest. 0

After giving a few instructions, Zhang Yang left the hospital room and returned to wait outside the operating room. 0

Actually, when he called Ding Weiwei's father, Ding Zhaotang, he didn't explain much. He only mentioned that he was a classmate of Ding Weiwei and that she had been accidentally shot, urging Ding Zhaotang to come quickly. Naturally, Ding Zhaotang anxiously asked how she got shot, but Zhang Yang could only say that it was complicated and they would talk more when he arrived. 0

Outside the operating room, the wait was excruciating. Unknowingly, five or six hours passed, but the surgery was still ongoing. 0

Zhang Yang's eyes were red as he occasionally glanced at the indicator light above the operating room. It wasn't until dusk that the surgical lights suddenly went out. 0

Time Rush walked out of the operating room, looking exhausted. 0

"Godmother!" Zhang Yang rushed forward, his urgent tone putting pressure on Time Rush. 0

"She'll be out soon; they're currently stitching her scalp," Time Rush said to Zhang Yang. "The bullet has been removed, and the bruising has been cleared." 0

"So that means she's okay?" Hope ignited in Zhang Yang's eyes. 0

Time Rush gave a bitter smile. "It's a complicated situation; let me sit down and explain." Seeing this, Zhang Yang quickly helped Time Rush to a nearby plastic chair. "Don't rush, Godmother; take your time." 0

"She has a cranial injury. Fortunately, it was an ordinary handgun bullet and fired from a distance, so it didn't directly injure her brain. However, it struck her skull and caused a brain hemorrhage. Although we've treated the external injuries and cleared the bruising, her brain has been deprived of blood and oxygen for some time now. Neurons may likely undergo degenerative changes," Time Rush explained. 0

"What will be the outcome?" Zhang Yang pressed on. 0

"It's hard to say right now; we need to observe for a while. But you should be mentally prepared; the patient may very well enter a Persistent Vegetative State," Time Rush sighed. 0

"Persistent Vegetative State? In simple terms, she might become a vegetable?" Time Rush explained in a solemn tone. 0

"Ah?" Zhang Yang's phone fell to the ground with a thud as he suddenly grabbed Time Rush's arm. "Godmother? Is there really no good way to help her?" 0

"It depends on the patient's recovery situation. In a couple of days, we should have some results. However, even if she enters this state, there is always a possibility of waking up at any time, so try not to worry too much," Time Rush comforted him. 0

Just then, the operating room door was pushed open, and Ding Weiwei was wheeled out. Her head was wrapped in thick gauze, her eyes tightly closed, and her delicate face appeared frighteningly pale. She still had an IV drip connected to her hand. "Weiwei!" Zhang Yang rushed forward, wanting to touch Ding Weiwei's face but ultimately held back. 0

He silently gripped the edge of the stretcher and helped the nurse transport Ding Weiwei to the Observation Room. 0

"Alright, you can go back now. She'll be observed in the Observation Room for 48 hours. No one except medical staff is allowed inside!" the nurse told Zhang Yang. 0

"Go back and rest for a bit. The environment in the Observation Room is very strict, and family members are not allowed inside," Time Rush said gently from behind. 0

"Godmother, you've been in surgery for so long, you must be tired. You should rest first; I'll just sit at the door for a while," Zhang Yang said as he brushed his long hair away from his forehead and sat down on a plastic chair fixed to the side of the door. As he lifted his hair, the blue Blade mark on his forehead became much more pronounced. 0

"Alright. Don't stay too long," Time Rush replied, clearly on the verge of exhaustion. After giving Zhang Yang a few instructions, she went to change and take a shower. 0

It was unclear how much time had passed when Zhang Yang moved his stiff legs and stood up. Suddenly, several people rushed over. 0

"What happened to Weiwei?" The first to arrive was Ding Weiwei's father, Ding Zhaotang, followed closely by a middle-aged woman with red eyes—Ding Weiwei's mother. Zhang Yang recognized her immediately from her features; mother and daughter looked very much alike. 0

"Uncle, Weiwei's surgery was very successful, and she is currently in the observation period. Family members are not allowed to visit the Observation Room; let me explain everything to you," Zhang Yang quickly said. Ding Zhaotang glanced inside through the door; although there was glass, it was blocked by curtains, making it impossible to see Ding Weiwei. 0

"Okay, let's talk outside. Don't disturb Weiwei," Ding Zhaotang said. Meanwhile, Aunt Ding had already started to sob quietly. 0

"Stop crying; what good does that do?" Ding Zhaotang said as he hurried outside. Aunt Ding covered her mouth and followed behind him timidly. 0

At a flower bed near the hospital entrance, Zhang Yang took out a cigarette and offered it to Ding Zhaotang. "No need; I have my own!" Ding Zhaotang waved away Zhang Yang's offer and pulled out a cigarette from his pocket instead, lighting it up. "Now tell me, what exactly happened?" 0

Zhang Yang took a deep breath of smoke and did not hold back; he recounted everything that had happened. However, he omitted the strange Magic of Old Toothless Daoist because explaining that would only complicate matters further. 0

"Aren't you just a student? How did you get involved with people from society? This Xiao Hansheng actually dared to kidnap and kill someone! If Weiwei didn't know you, would this have happened?" Ding Zhaotang was already so angry that he was starting to lose his words. 0

"This incident indeed stemmed from that; I will give you an explanation," Zhang Yang replied. 0

"Explanation? What explanation can you give? Now that Weiwei is like this, to put it bluntly, even if you trade your life for hers, can she ever be the same again?" Ding Zhaotang retorted angrily. 0

"Uncle, saying that is unreasonable; no one wanted this to happen," Zhang Yang said, feeling frustrated himself as anger surged within him. 0

"Fine, I'm not going to argue with you now. Let's see how Weiwei is doing first!" With that, Ding Zhaotang waved his sleeve and walked into the hospital, with Ding Weiwei's mother following closely behind. 0

Zhang Yang also entered after them. When they reached the door of the Observation Room, he suddenly noticed that Time Rush was there too, bringing along a folding bed. "I know you won't leave; if you're tired, just sleep here on the side. The Observation Room is relatively quiet, and there aren't many visitors usually." 0

"Doctor, my daughter is okay, right?" Aunt Ding immediately approached Time Rush upon seeing her in a white coat and grabbed her hand to ask. 0

"Rest assured, the surgery was very successful and there is no danger to life, but we need to observe the situation for 48 hours to be certain," Time Rush reassured. Aunt Ding seemed a bit relieved, but just as Time Rush was about to continue speaking, Zhang Yang quickly gave him a look. 0

Zhang Yang's intention was clear: since they were still in the observation period, it was best not to mention the possibility of a vegetative state to Ding Weiwei's parents to avoid causing them unnecessary worry. Time Rush understood and left after giving a few brief instructions. 0

Ding Zhaotang's attitude was not good, but it was understandable. Zhang Yang did not hold it against him, but seeing that Ding Zhaotang was unwilling to talk to him, he felt awkward and simply lay down on a folding chair. Zhang Yang had not slept for an entire day and night, and now it was already late at night; before long, he actually fell asleep. 0

"Zhang Yang! How is Weiwei doing?" In his daze, Zhang Yang suddenly felt someone pushing him. He opened his eyes to find it was Chu Ruoxi. 0

Zhang Yang sat up, rubbed his sleepy eyes, and looked at Chu Ruoxi's anxious expression. He couldn't help but sigh and reached into his pocket for a cigarette pack, only to remember that smoking was not allowed in the hospital, so he put it back. 0

"Don't worry, let me explain," Zhang Yang said slowly as he recounted what had happened. 0

At that moment, Ding Zhaotang and his wife returned from outside; they must have gone out for breakfast. Aunt Ding was holding a bag of fried dough sticks and soy milk, presumably bought for Zhang Yang. 0

"Woo woo woo... how could this happen? If Weiwei wakes up, you can only be nice to her; I won't compete with her," Chu Ruoxi cried as she threw herself into Zhang Yang's arms. He gently held her, feeling a mix of emotions inside. 0

"Smack!" Ding Zhaotang snatched the breakfast from Ding Weiwei's mother's hands and threw it on the ground, pointing at Zhang Yang and shouting, "What do you think you are? How dare you play both sides!" 0
