"Mr. Chen Feng, we need your cooperation for the investigation again." Officer Li's voice came through the phone, serious and low, cutting through the static like a sharp knife piercing Chen Feng's eardrum.
Chen Feng's fingers tightened around the phone unconsciously, knuckles turning white as his fingertips nearly sank into the phone case. He instinctively swallowed, his throat moving up and down as he struggled to squeeze out a word: "Okay..."
"Please come to the police station tomorrow at nine in the morning." Officer Li's tone left no room for doubt.
"I understand." Chen Feng hung up the phone and dejectedly tossed it onto the coffee table, producing a dull thud.
He leaned weakly against the sofa, covering his face with his hands, taking a deep breath and slowly exhaling. My ghost floated before him, watching every subtle change in his expression, my heart feeling as if it were being twisted by a knife.
I wanted to tell him, to reveal the truth, to inform him that the real culprit was someone else, but I could only watch helplessly as he faced suspicion and misunderstanding.
In the police station's interrogation room, the harsh white light illuminated Chen Feng's face, making him appear even paler. Officer Li sat across from him, holding several photographs and staring at him with piercing eyes. The photos depicted the horrific scene of my car accident, shocking to behold.
"Mr. Chen Feng, according to our investigation, you had a heated argument with Miss during the night of her accident, correct?" Officer Li pushed the photos in front of Chen Feng, his tone icy.
Chen Feng suddenly looked up, his eyes flickering as his lips trembled but no sound came out.
He gazed at the shattered remains of my car in the photos, memories of my smiles flashing through his mind like a slideshow, his heart aching. "No... no... we... we just had... a small disagreement..." he stammered, his voice hoarse and rough like sandpaper. I floated behind Officer Li, waving my arms vigorously in an attempt to stop him from pressing further, but it was futile.
"Mr. Chen Feng, we have eyewitnesses who saw you near the scene that night." Officer Li's tone grew heavier, his gaze sharper.
Chen Feng's breathing quickened as he clenched his fists tightly, knuckles turning white from exertion. "I... I was there... but... but I didn't..." He wanted to explain but didn't know how to begin.
I felt a wave of dizziness, as if I were being pulled into a massive whirlpool. I desperately tried to grab onto something, but there was nothing to hold.
At that moment, the door to the interrogation room was pushed open, and a female officer walked in, whispering a few words into Officer Li's ear. Officer Li's expression changed slightly, and then he said to Chen Feng, "Mr. Chen Feng, you can leave for now, but please keep your phone on; we may contact you at any time."
Chen Feng stood up with a sigh of relief and stumbled out of the interrogation room. I closely followed behind him, filled with confusion and unease.
In the police station lobby, a slender woman in a beige trench coat was pacing anxiously. When she saw Chen Feng come out, she immediately approached him. "Chen Feng!" she called softly.
It was Chen Xiaoxiao.
" Chen Xiaoxiao? What are you doing here?" Chen Feng asked, his tone laced with surprise.
"Chen Feng, I have something very important to tell you about... about Lily..." Chen Xiaoxiao's face was pale, her lips trembling slightly, and her eyes were filled with anxiety. I floated over to Chen Xiaoxiao's side, carefully observing her expression as a sense of foreboding rose within me.
"Let's talk over there," Chen Xiaoxiao said, pointing to a relatively secluded seat in the corner of the lobby.
Chen Feng and Chen Xiaoxiao walked over and sat down beside the seat. Chen Xiaoxiao took a deep breath, seemingly trying to calm herself. "Chen Feng, I know... I know Lily's death... wasn't an accident..." she whispered, her voice trembling and her gaze flickering.
Chen Feng suddenly looked up, his eyes filled with shock and uncertainty. "What... what are you saying?" His voice shook as he looked at Chen Xiaoxiao in disbelief. I was also stunned; it felt as if my soul was trembling. Did Chen Xiaoxiao know something?
"I... I saw..." Chen Xiaoxiao's voice grew quieter until it was almost inaudible. "I saw... someone... someone pushed her..." After saying this, she seemed to collapse into the chair, utterly drained.
Chen Feng's face instantly turned pale; he tightly grasped Chen Xiaoxiao's arm and urgently asked, "Who... who did you see? Who pushed her?"
Chen Xiaoxiao trembled as she slowly uttered a name. I floated in front of Chen Xiaoxiao, holding my breath, waiting for that name to emerge. My heart raced as if it would leap out of my chest.
Chen Xiaoxiao's lips quivered as she spoke a name, and Chen Feng's eyes widened in shock. My ghostly form flickered, as if it could vanish at any moment. A wave of dizziness washed over me, making the entire world spin. I had to understand; I needed to uncover the truth... I decided to secretly follow Chen Feng to see what he would do next. Chen Xiaoxiao took a deep breath, tidied her disheveled hair, and stood up.
