Huang Xiaoyi saw Sun Gang suddenly grinning at him. Although he felt a brief moment of surprise, he quickly regained his composure and reaffirmed his role as the antagonist. He tossed away the cigarette butt and replied coolly, "Joking? Captain Sun really has a good mood, but I don't share that sentiment. To be honest, I came here specifically to find you tonight, Captain Sun."
"Oh, I wonder what Commander Hong wants with me?" Sun Gang replied cheerfully as he opened the car door and got out. Xin Yi also exited from the other side, having noticed that Sun Gang had quietly unfastened the holster at his waist while getting out.
"Captain Sun wouldn't have forgotten what he's done, would he? But that's fine; I don't mind telling you again. My Sixty-Fourth Regiment and your Seventy-Ninth Regiment have always kept to ourselves. However, why did you order your subordinates to do such things? Do you really think the people of the Sixty-Fourth Regiment are useless?" Hong Xiaoyi shouted loudly, his words carrying a certain force.
However, he was facing Sun Gang, whose Seventy-Ninth Regiment was indeed stronger than his own. Sun Gang stood in front of Hong Xiaoyi with an innocent smile and slowly said, "Commander Hong is mistaken. I have never thought of the Sixty-Fourth Regiment as useless; rather, they are inherently useless. It has nothing to do with my opinion."
Hong Xiaoyi felt somewhat pleased by the first half of the statement, but upon hearing the latter part, he cursed inwardly! This was a roundabout way of insulting him. Although Hong Xiaoyi was just a good-for-nothing rogue, even rogues have their dignity. As a seasoned rogue, he absolutely could not allow anyone to insult his Sixty-Fourth Regiment like this, even if sometimes he himself thought his soldiers were indeed useless.
Hearing this implied threat meant things were about to escalate! Fine! If it comes to that! I came here today precisely for this confrontation! Hong Xiaoyi laughed angrily: "Hahaha... Alright then! Let's see who the real useless one is today! Come on! Capture these people first! Then we’ll go to their camp to find the culprit!" With a wave of his hand, he ordered his Guard Platoon to surround them in a semi-circle while he drew his sidearm, preparing to take control of Sun Gang himself.
Hong Xiaoyi had come prepared with a full Guard Platoon, totaling over forty people when combined with those soldiers who had been beaten earlier. On the other hand, Sun Gang had come down relying solely on Xin Yi's presence as a Commissioner. He figured that Hong Xiaoyi wouldn't dare to confront a Commissioner directly, so he brought fewer people along—only a few personal bodyguards without any additional support. Therefore, in terms of numbers, Hong Xiaoyi had every reason to believe he could control the situation.
However, Xin Yi did not think so, nor did Sun Gang. Sometimes, sheer numbers are not the only key to victory. Just like now, Sun Gang's gun was pressed against Hong Xiaoyi's side; although it wasn't very forceful, Hong Xiaoyi could distinctly feel its presence and was palpably nervous because of it.
"Wait! What do you want to do?" Hong Xiaoyi halted his approaching Guard Platoon and asked Sun Gang with a trembling voice. It was clear that he was scared. As a seasoned rogue, he should have possessed some heroic spirit akin to that of soldiers who fearlessly face challenges ahead; however, unfortunately for him, while he lacked nothing else, he was sorely lacking in courage. Who says rogues are fearless? Nonsense! Rogues are still human beings who evolved from humans; they fear death and pain just like anyone else.
"Damn it! Are you serious? Commander Hong, even now you still don’t know what I’m planning? Fine, considering your intelligence level, I’ll forgive you this once. What I'm thinking is... to capture you and send you to a military court," Sun Gang said nonchalantly. It must be admitted that in terms of strategy and conflict resolution, Sun Gang was indeed much more skilled than Hong Xiaoyi. If one were to categorize them by levels of foolishness, Sun Gang would be at level three while Hong Xiaoyi had already reached level eight.
Hong Xiaoyi felt deeply dissatisfied—why had he so easily fallen into someone else's hands? This experience would leave an indelible stain on his career; although his record was already marred like wet chopsticks covered in sesame seeds. But what could he do about it? Now that he had fallen into someone else's grasp, while he might be foolish, he wasn't foolish enough to fight against stone with an egg. Unable to resist but still wanting to say something fierce or salvage some dignity would be better than nothing.
Thus, after rummaging through himself for what little courage remained within him, Hong Xiaoyi gently retorted in anger: "What did you say? You want to send me to a military court? On what grounds? What crime have I committed?"
Sun Gang looked at Hong Xiaoyi with pity and sighed, "Sigh, why do you have to do this? Just admit to what you've done. Even if you don't admit it, someone will make you confess eventually; you'll just have to suffer a bit more."
"Oh, let me introduce you," Sun Gang said, pointing to Xin Yi beside him. "This is the Special Envoy sent by Liu Commander. Everything you've done is known to the Special Envoy. So, how about it? No more excuses?"
Xin Yi cooperatively walked over to Hong Xiaoyi and said, "Commander Hong, this matter is indeed your fault. We are all part of the same system; why can't we discuss things properly? Why resort to such despicable and extreme measures? I think this time no one can help you. Sigh, jealousy can be deadly!" Xin Yi sighed dramatically, looking up at the sky, resembling a superior lamenting the misfortune of a subordinate while being angry at their lack of judgment, almost shedding a few tears.
Sun Gang and Xin Yi's words left Hong Xiaoyi confused. Although he didn't understand what they meant, he could tell that he was in trouble. Cold sweat began to bead on his back; he had done too many unethical things in the past. Who knew what evidence they had against him? Nowadays, those in power could create issues out of nothing, especially since his own record wasn't clean. It seemed he was doomed this time.
Feeling defeated, Hong Xiaoyi looked at the smug Sun Gang and the righteous Commissioner and thought he was finished. He resigned himself to his fate; as a mere Leader, no one would even notice if he disappeared. Just moments ago, he had stormed in to confront Sun Gang for justice, but now he found himself on the verge of being sent to a military tribunal. The drastic change was too much for him to bear; even more absurdly, he didn't even know why they were sending him there.
Sun Gang glanced at Hong Xiaoyi's men and then looked again at the soldiers who had been beaten up. Their uniforms bore obvious stains from being assaulted in the alley of the town below the mountain. One soldier's uniform was missing a button and had large bloodstains on it; they had just been brought back to camp without time to change. Originally, Hong Xiaoyi intended to use their dirty uniforms and injuries as evidence against the Seventy-Ninth Regiment, but unexpectedly, it became evidence against him instead. Sun Gang pointed at those soldiers and told his personal guard, "Take these people back to camp as well! The rest can disperse! Go back and stay in your own camp honestly while waiting for higher-ups to appoint a new Leader!"
Hong Xiaoyi's Guard Platoon had no idea what their Leader had done to warrant arrest. Why were they being taken away without explanation? And who was this Commissioner anyway? They dared not ask or care too much; as long as their pay came on time, they were fine with whoever was in charge.
The most unfortunate were those Xiong Squad Leaders who had already been beaten up in the town below. What kind of world was this? Who did they offend today? They had merely acted tough in a tavern! Not only did they get beaten up but now their Leader was also being scolded for trying to stand up for them. Just when their Leader was about to seek justice for them by confronting their assailants, he ended up being inexplicably arrested instead! It wouldn't matter if their Leader got arrested; they could just forget about revenge! They could accept being beaten up without retaliation as long as they were allowed to go back. But now they were left behind while the Guard Platoon members were released—what did that mean? Did they look too punchable? Would the Seventy-Ninth Regiment drag them back for another beating? Oh no! If that happened, it would be better to just endure something worse.
As Sun Gang spoke, his personal guards approached and disarmed the injured soldiers before bringing them next to him. Sun Gang examined Pig-Headed Bear Squad Leader's uniform and pulled out a button from his pocket, saying, "You, come here!"
Xiong Squad Leader jumped at Sun Gang's call—why was it him again? Looking at his face, how could anyone bear to hit him? If it were up to him, he wouldn't be able to do it either. But fear kept him from refusing; after all, his own Leader was currently in Sun Gang's hands. So Pig-Headed Bear Squad Leader cautiously walked over and asked, "L-Long... Officer, did you call me?"
"Yes. What is your name?" Sun Gang asked calmly.
Seeing that the officer didn't seem inclined to hit him and was being so friendly made Pig-Headed Bear Squad Leader nearly tear up with gratitude. He quickly replied, "Report, Officer! My name is Xiong Shou!"
"Xiong Shou? The murderer, huh, I didn't expect you to be so honest," Sun Gang nodded and said.

I'm sorry for the late update today. A friend came from afar last night, and Azure had a great time. As a result, in the excitement, I ended up getting drunk (what a bad influence!). I didn't write last night and am only managing to get a chapter out now. Tomorrow, two more friends are coming from afar, so... I really mean it! I'll try my best to keep updating consistently over the next couple of days. Sorry again!
