The Elder of Yanming Shop has left, and Xin Yi and the others sent him off to the car heading to Old House Street Town. Yanming Store and Xu Maogong, this pair of old bros, felt that their reunion was long overdue. During their time in the jungle, everyone was under a lot of stress, leaving little time to bond. It wasn't until last night, after sharing drinks and sleeping side by side, that these old bros discovered how surprisingly similar their experiences were, leading to a mutual appreciation. As the car started moving, Yanming Store leaned out of the window, repeatedly reminding everyone to visit him again when they returned to Zhengkang, so they could enjoy some Heavenly Pride liquor together.
On the way back, Xu Maogong felt a bit down. He and Xin Yi were from different age groups, so it was naturally easier for him to speak his mind with Yanming Store than with Xin Yi. Thus, Xu Maogong shifted the topic to business matters and asked Xin Yi, "What should we do next? Should we stay in Guokan for a while or head straight to Abayir?"
Xin Yi replied, "What do you think would be better?"
Xu Maogong glanced at Xin Yi and said, "If what Old Yan said yesterday is true, I believe it's worth our while to stay in the Guokan area for a bit."
Hearing this, Xin Yi smiled at Xu Maogong and said, "I was thinking the same thing; I just don't know where we can find a breakthrough."
"Don't worry; we really don't need to do anything," Xu Maogong said slowly. "Opportunities will definitely come knocking at our door. Analyzing the situation from yesterday and the day before in Old House Street Town, we have almost become public figures now. Naturally, there will be people paying extra attention to us. We just need to wait patiently for suitable prey to appear, and then..."
"A blood oath! Hahaha..." Xin Yi continued Xu Maogong's words, and they both laughed heartily again. Conversations between smart people are refreshing; just a few words hit the nail on the head.
Roxy and Topology couldn't understand what these two were talking about. This wasn't because their intelligence was inferior but rather due to their education. Although Roxy had Heavenly Pride blood in her veins, she didn't grow up with Heavenly Pride's traditional culture; being able to communicate in Heavenly Pride language was already impressive. Topology understood even less; he could be considered a barbarian, facing significant barriers even in communication. For instance, a man with a full beard often matched their travel route. Additionally, he frequently spotted reflections from lenses on nearby high points; based on experience, he deduced that someone was using binoculars to monitor them or that bearded man—or perhaps both parties were being watched. This discovery made Xin Yi feel more at ease because it confirmed that events were unfolding as he and Xu Maogong had anticipated. Thus, their plans had a chance of realization. Another reason for his calmness was his curiosity about who that young officer referred to as his Old Friend.
Time passed quickly; two days flew by without incident. However, on the third day, Xin Yi sensed that things might finally change because he noticed that the bearded man who had been following them was missing today. For two days straight, he had been tracking them alone without any accomplices around him. The prolonged absence of new faces indicated that it was a major taboo for someone monitoring them for too long without relief—this could only mean one thing: he was waiting for backup. Now that the bearded man was gone, it suggested that his accomplices had arrived; it was likely time for them to take action.
Sure enough, after several deliberate probing tests by Xin Yi and his group, they finally identified at least ten people tracking them today. Among them was a pair posing as middle-aged spouses who seemed to be leading the group. It was relatively easy to test which individuals were monitoring them; for example, if they turned around suddenly while walking through a narrow passageway—those who looked surprised were ordinary tourists while those pretending not to care or ignoring them were likely suspicious characters. The most telling moment came when they were passing through a cave when Roxy suddenly shouted loudly: "There's a bomb!" Instantly chaos erupted—people ran away in panic or stumbled over each other while some crouched down covering their heads... but only those standing with their hands resting on specific parts of their clothing while vigilantly scanning left and right remained composed amidst the chaos. If such individuals were also ordinary tourists, then their psychological resilience would indeed be extraordinary.
Now that they had essentially confirmed their targets, it was time to find a suitable place for both sides to take action. From the looks of those pretending to be married middle-aged individuals, Xin Yi understood that everyone was aware of what was happening. Today they were visiting a stone forest scenic area located in Guokan's North Suburb. Therefore, Xin Yi's group hurriedly moved deeper into the stone forest while pretending to flee; naturally, their pursuers wouldn't let such an easy target slip away and followed closely behind them. Xin Yi's group maintained a distance from their pursuers as they walked deeper into the stone forest until they reached an area with hardly any tourists passing through before finding places to hide. Soon enough, they heard footsteps approaching closer and closer. Seeing that Xin Yi's group had vanished into the stone forest made those chasing after them realize they must have hidden away; thus they began pulling out weapons cautiously as they crept toward where Xin Yi's group had concealed themselves within the stone formations.
Xin Yi quickly climbed to the top of a pillar-shaped stone, looking down at the people below. He saw a middle-aged man making a gesture to his subordinates, and soon a dozen people split into two teams and surrounded him from both sides. Xu Maogong, Topology, and Roxy were hiding behind the stone pillar, knowing that they would surely fall into the trap if surrounded like this. However, Xin Yi would not let them succeed. After the group divided into two teams, only the middle-aged couple and another red-faced man remained in the middle. Like an agile raccoon, Xin Yi quietly leaped from the top of the stone pillar towards the position of the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man was dressed like a typical tourist, wearing a sun hat and sunglasses. At that moment, he was standing still, taking off his sunglasses to wipe the lenses. Suddenly, things took a turn; the three people who had been standing still suddenly moved violently, raising their guns and shooting at Xin Yi. At that moment, Xin Yi was leaping in mid-air between two stone pillars, and the bullets came unexpectedly, leaving him no time to dodge. He could only twist his body just enough to narrowly avoid the incoming bullets. However, although he evaded the bullets, he lost momentum and fell straight down like a plumb line. Anticipating that he would be surrounded by the three as soon as he landed, Xin Yi switched his pistol to his left hand while drawing three throwing knives with his right hand. Sure enough, after firing their guns, the three immediately surrounded where Xin Yi was about to land in a triangular formation.
Just as Xin Yi was about to hit the ground, he fired his gun towards the direction of the Middle-Aged Woman and Red-Faced Man, shooting twice in quick succession. The two quickly rolled away to avoid being hit.
At this point, Xin Yi had landed on the ground. If he guessed correctly, right behind him was that middle-aged man. As expected, just as his feet touched down, a cold voice came from behind him: "It's a pity you have another gun pointed at your back. Now you can put down your weapon if you don't want to die."
Xin Yi had already anticipated such an outcome. In mid-air, he could only see two points of the triangle; thus, there would always be someone behind him with a gun aimed at him. He slowly raised his left hand holding the gun and tossed it aside. At the same time, he swiftly swung his right hand, sending two throwing knives flying towards the source of the voice behind him while rolling to the right.
However, the person behind him was clearly not just an easy target. Seeing two throwing knives shoot out from Xin Yi's hand, the middle-aged man executed an agile backflip, narrowly avoiding being hit by both knives that flew past his chest. He thought to himself how lucky he was; if his skills had been even slightly less sharp, those knives might have cost him his life. Fortunately, he had never let his guard down in practicing Kung Fu. Feeling somewhat pleased with himself for this reason, he thought how could such a minor operative possibly be a match for a high-ranking official of Mei Organization Intelligence Division? However, his self-satisfaction lasted less than two seconds because just as he landed after dodging those two knives, he felt something flash before his eyes—another knife gleaming with cold light was rushing towards his chest. At this point, it was too late for him to dodge again; in desperation, he could only twist his body slightly to avoid a fatal hit to his heart. The knife "thudded" into his left arm instead, causing him to stagger.
At that moment, figures flashed before him as Xin Yi closed in and grabbed hold of his right wrist while aiming his own gun at the man's temple with his index finger on the trigger. Coldly he said: "It's a pity I still have another throwing knife in my hand; now you can call your people out."
Imitating how the middle-aged man had spoken to him earlier, Xin Yi addressed him.
Meanwhile, the Middle-Aged Woman and Red-Faced Man had gotten back up and were stunned to see their leader captured by Xin Yi. The Red-Faced Man asked: "Chief, what should we do?"
"TMD! What else can we do?! Tell them all to come out!" The middle-aged man roared: "Don't you see I've been injured?" After yelling at the Red-Faced Man, he turned back to Xin Yi: "Brother, I know we are all in this together; since no one has suffered any losses here, how about we just let this go? I can guarantee that my people from Mei Organization won't touch you while you're on Taiwan soil; what do you say?"
"Can you really make that promise?" Xin Yi asked with feigned confusion.
"I assure you it counts!" The middle-aged man vowed: "You may not know who I am; I am Chief Cao Borin of Mei Organization Intelligence Division. I guarantee that my organization won't touch you from now on; my word still holds weight."
"But while Mei Organization won't touch me, I want to take action against Mei Organization!” Xin Yi replied coldly and deliberately.
