Lu Jianming listened as Wang Wei analyzed the case and calmly said, "Well, that analysis is quite reasonable and thorough."
"Is that all?" Wang Wei clearly was not satisfied with Lu Jianming's evaluation, as he felt he was the only one speaking, and Lu Jianming had not offered any opinions.

"I do."
"Then why are you just watching those people from the Provincial Department mess things up?"

"I just want to do what an enforcer should do: catch the criminals and clear the innocent!" Wang Wei replied decisively.
"But I've already told you, the task force list was directly drafted by the Provincial Department, and I have no way to intervene," Lu Jianming responded somewhat helplessly.
"But we have the right to voice our opinions! Moreover, we sacrificed two comrades; the Provincial Department should consider our views! You are my leader; you need to fight for this opportunity for me," Wang Wei insisted almost petulantly.

"Come back!" Lu Jianming called out. When Wang Wei turned back, Lu Jianming said seriously, "Wang Wei, only you and I know about this matter. You must be cautious; no one can know you're investigating this case privately. If anyone finds out, I won't be able to protect you. Do you understand?"
"Don't worry, Director Lu! This is my specialty; just wait for my good news!" Wang Wei replied before opening the door and striding out. Lu Jianming took a sip from his teacup and watched Wang Wei's hurried departure with a sly smile on his face.
The task force organized by the Provincial Department had fully taken over all files related to the case, including suspects and witnesses. The task force was now operating within the Longchuan City Public Security Bureau. Lu Jianming had arranged two offices and a conference room for them as a temporary command center. The head of the task force was named Zhong and was the director of the Provincial Public Security Department Criminal Investigation Second Division. He was quite arrogant and didn't even regard Lu Jianming highly; upon seeing him, he simply dismissed him with an "Old Lu." However, Lu Jianming wasn't offended; after all, he was sent down from the Provincial Department and held an administrative rank equivalent to a division chief. It was normal for him not to take himself too seriously; everyone had their own responsibilities and would go their separate ways once the job was done.
Director Zhong had come down with significant responsibilities. Before his departure, Provincial Department Director Wu had specifically summoned him. When Director Zhong respectfully entered Director Wu's office, he found another person inside—a man with slicked-back hair and a fair face wearing stylish gold-rimmed glasses—none other than Wang Jingwei, Secretary Qiao's most trusted chief secretary. After greeting both men, Director Zhong respectfully sat on the sofa waiting for their instructions. Director Zhong listened intently to Secretary Wang's instructions, fearing that missing even a single word would lead to misunderstanding Secretary Qiao's intentions. Director Zhong was skilled at grasping key points; for instance, he noted several keywords from Secretary Wang's previous remarks: ironclad case, young master, and severe punishment for the murderer. As long as these points were addressed, everything would be fine.

As Secretary Wang spoke, he exuded more authority than Director Wu. After listening to his directives, Director Zhong felt his back dampen with sweat. Once Secretary Wang finished his instructions, Director Zhong thought for a moment and realized there were no questions to ask. Secretary Wang's message was clear: collect evidence and reprocess the captured murderer to ensure an ironclad case so that he could never rise again.
