Peter commanded his team to fall back, but before they could retreat a few steps, the gun barrel protruding from the car window roared to life. A barrage of bullets shot out from the flaming muzzle, indicating that they couldn't escape the effective range just yet. The Vulture Team Members had no choice but to lie down and raise their weapons to return fire. However, this was hardly a heavyweight battle; the intense firepower kept them from lifting their heads. Occasionally, they managed to fire a few shots, but they lost their usual accuracy and only succeeded in shattering a few window panes. Nevertheless, Vulture proved its mettle; even in such a disadvantageous position, they remained calm, firing back while retreating—firing two shots and rolling back twice—gradually escaping the machine gun's deadly coverage.
Seeing that the enemy had retreated beyond effective range, those in the vehicle ceased firing. However, the dark gun barrel still rested on the window. Xin Yi couldn't help but admire these individuals; in such an unexpected situation, they managed to wield such powerful weapons without leaving behind many Vulture Team Members. It seemed that Vulture was indeed extraordinary. If it weren't for his instinctive feeling that something was amiss and his early preparations, he suspected all his brothers would have ended up as cold corpses.
Earlier in the day at Celebrity Western Restaurant, Xin Yi had sensed something unusual about He Zheng's deliberate provocation. Both were formidable forces with scores to settle; thus, adequate preparation was essential.
Taking advantage of a trip to the restroom, Xin Yi called Qin Dali, instructing him to lead several brothers into the mountains to retrieve some weapons for backup. Fortunately, the stash wasn't far away; half a day's round trip would suffice. After securing the weapons, Xin Yi arranged for over ten brothers to accompany him and loaded several Submachine Guns into their vehicle. On the mountain, he stationed snipers as observers and another team ready for immediate support. With such meticulous arrangements in place, Xin Yi deliberately appeared with knives alongside Qin Dali, Topology, and Summer Wind, misleading their opponents into thinking he was unprepared for an ambush. Yet despite this setup, not a single member of Vulture was injured in the first exchange—a testament to their combat prowess.
Having led his team back behind some rocks for cover, leaving two members to observe the situation while gathering around him to discuss tactics, it was clear that they had underestimated their opponent's capabilities this time. If not for Peter's urgent command to retreat upon realizing the critical situation, many would likely have lost their lives on this foreign and desolate stretch of land known as Riverside. Consequently, everyone felt pent-up frustration.
One team member angrily suggested, “Peter, what should we do? I think we should surround them again and wear them down near their effective range until they run out of bullets. Then we can charge in; I refuse to believe these ragtag fighters can withstand our renowned strength as Vulture!”
“Don't be impulsive, David. We don't need to take such risks against these low-tier civilian organizations,” replied Peter. “I know you want to take down these cunning locals from Heavenly Pride, but I don't want you risking your lives over them!” He continued: “If we don't go after them, they'll definitely come for us. Once they enter this rocky area, their heavy weaponry will lose its advantage—that's our chance for a counterattack.”
“Are we just going to sit here waiting? What if they don't come? Are we supposed to wait indefinitely?” David retorted unwillingly.
“They will come; trust me,” said Peter, confident in his assessment. “They've prepared so thoroughly that they won't want to leave empty-handed.” He added: “Besides, we won't just sit here idly waiting either. David, take a few men and swim through the river to circle around behind them. As soon as you engage them from behind, we'll launch our attack here as well and take down these locals from Heavenly Pride, avenging John!”
“Alright! Let's do it! Now that's more like the style of Vulture!” exclaimed David, eager about this aggressive approach as he quickly gathered seven or eight men ready to head into the river.
“Wait! We can't go directly from here; they've got snipers on the mountain observing our movements with infrared scopes,” warned Peter. “We need to get around to where we can enter from near the foot of the mountain—that's their blind spot.”
David nodded and, along with a few others, made their way to the edge of the mountain. Each person took out a soft tube about the thickness of a finger and roughly one meter long from their backpacks. One end of the tube had a small ball near its tip, which had a tiny rubber stopper on top. Once the rubber stopper was pulled out, the small ball expanded to the size of a fist. The group placed the other end of the tube in their mouths and walked down along the riverbank until they were submerged, leaving only the fist-sized ball floating on the water's surface. The ball slowly drifted towards Xin Yi and the others.
Seeing that Peter and his group had retreated to the rocky area, Xin Yi ordered the vehicle to turn around and head straight for where Peter was hiding among the rocks. The bright headlights illuminated the area ahead as if it were daytime. When they were about three hundred meters away from the rocky area, Xin Yi commanded them to stop. The headlights continued to shine directly at their target zone. Xin Yi bent down and took two 7.62mm Type 51 pistols from a wooden box in the vehicle, fastening them to his waist. He said to Qin Dali, "Dali, you and I will each take two brothers; we will form teams of three and move past the edge of the light. It's time for us to take the initiative! The HK21 that Xin Yi mentioned was the submachine gun that had just been used to fire heavily at Vulture. This HK21 was manufactured in D Country during World War II and fires 7.62mm NATO cartridges. It operates on a semi-free bolt automatic system, fed by either belts or magazines, capable of semi-automatic or fully automatic fire. Its effective range is 1200 meters, with a theoretical rate of fire of 900 rounds per minute, allowing for both single and continuous fire. The entire weapon weighs only 7.92 kilograms. Qin Dali responded affirmatively and quickly armed four brothers with strong military skills.
