In the mottled corridor, the light flickered incessantly, and Li Nan and three other men found themselves trapped.
Seeing Li Nan's face turn purple, Fatty cursed inwardly, "Damn it, just because the tiger doesn't show its power, you think I'm a sick cat!" With that, Fatty lifted his foot and kicked up the Submachine Gun that had fallen to the ground.
Grinding his teeth, Fatty tried to reach for the Submachine Gun with one foot. However, he lost his balance and fell to the ground in a position reminiscent of a dog eating feces just as he was about to kick the Submachine Gun up.
Fatty felt immense frustration and forced a bitter smile, saying, "This time I'm really at my wit's end!"
Meanwhile, Li Nan's arms were already entangled by Long Tongue, and his neck was tightly constricted. Despite having great strength, he couldn't exert it with his throat locked.
Li Nan's hands were tightly clasped together. In an instant, he glared furiously, veins bulging on his forehead. After letting out a roar, he managed to turn his right hand palm-up and draw out the Vigo Knife!
The Vigo Knife had been held horizontally in Li Nan's hand but was difficult to wield due to his hands being restrained. Now, however, he had no choice but to resort to desperate measures!
With both hands bound together, Li Nan's posture was awkward as he gripped the knife. It was challenging to inflict damage on Long Tongue wrapped around his arms!
Li Nan forcefully threw the Vigo Knife into the air and opened his mouth wide, catching it mid-air. He then lowered his head and stabbed at Long Tongue wrapped around his neck!
As the blade struck, the flesh-colored Long Tongue was severed with a snap, causing pain to the instigator hiding in the shadows of the corridor!
At that moment, Li Nan struggled fiercely and tore off Long Tongue from his arm. Using his hand like a blade, he snapped Long Tongue in half!
"Whoosh..." A strange sound echoed as Li Nan's chest heaved. After coughing several times, he finally regained some composure.
At the same time, Fatty, Bitter Melon, and Lin Hai also had their Long Tongue restraints retracted. Li Nan spat out the Vigo Knife and held it horizontally in his hand before shouting loudly, "Get up quickly! The danger isn't over yet!"
Fatty staggered to his feet and spat on the ground in frustration. "Damn it! This is too much!"
After freeing themselves, Bitter Melon and Lin Hai immediately armed themselves with firearms and began firing into the shadows below.
After hundreds of bullets were fired, Li Nan waved his hand and said, "It's no longer there!"
Fatty picked up the Submachine Gun again and then bent down to retrieve the Wolf Eye Flashlight that Li Nan had dropped on the ground.
The Wolf Eye Flashlight illuminated the dark area downstairs, revealing a bright beam of light. However, in that corridor, apart from scattered bullet casings, there was not a single shadow of anything else, nor were there any bloodstains!
"It got away!" Fatty thought to himself, then turned to Li Nan.
Li Nan looked up at the Ceiling again and said, "That guy is elusive and incredibly fast; it's hard to deal with him. This time, we can only rely on ourselves!"
Originally, Fatty had been quite bold, but after such an ambush, he immediately deflated. "Brother Nan is right; I was careless before. I didn't expect there would be such a formidable opponent in this abandoned building!"
Li Nan tidied up his weapons and said, "There are many unexpected things; let's take this as a lesson learned!"
At that moment, Bitter Melon spoke up from behind, "What should we do now? Should we continue or retreat?"
Li Nan looked at Bitter Melon and asked, "What do you think?"
Bitter Melon replied seriously, "Both Fatty and I have received great favors from Brother Three. It's only right for us to take risks for him. However, Brother Nan shouldn't put himself in danger. So my suggestion is that you and Lin Hai can leave; let me and Fatty handle this dangerous situation!"
Bitter Melon looked at Fatty and asked, "What do you think?"
Fatty tossed the Wolf Eye Flashlight back to Li Nan and said, "I've always been a person who works hard under others' orders; I never get to command anyone myself. There's nothing I can do; Bitter Melon, you call the shots. I have no objections!"
Bitter Melon smiled and said, "We already know the location; let me and Fatty take care of this matter. Life or death is uncertain; if we succeed, we can save Brother Three; if we fail, we'll go down together with him!"
Li Nan caught the Wolf Eye Flashlight thrown by Fatty and smiled widely. "I didn't expect you, Fatty, who usually seems so carefree, to be so reliable at a critical moment!"
Fatty also laughed and said, "I'm rough on the outside but meticulous on the inside. Do you really think someone as carefree as me could survive in this apocalypse until now?"
Li Nan concealed the blade of the Vigo Knife in the scabbard on his back, then looked down into the deep darkness below. "Do you recognize the Snake Venom Antidote?"
Fatty shook his head. "No, I really don't know about that!"
Li Nan chuckled, "Without me, you won't be able to accomplish anything. So for this dangerous venture, I have to take charge!" He then turned to Lin Hai. "What about you? Are you willing to go down with me?"
Lin Hai weighed the AK-47 in his hands and said, "The gun was given to me by Brother Nan, which means my life is also given by Brother Nan. So there's no reason for me to abandon him!"
Li Nan laughed heartily. "It seems we won't be parting ways for now!"
Fatty leaned closer to Li Nan, placing a hand on his shoulder, and said, "Brother Three didn't misjudge anyone; Brother Nan is indeed a true man!"
Li Nan sidestepped to avoid Fatty's greasy hand and casually replied, "You're thinking too much. I'm not that great; I just want to see the Snake Venom Antidote with my own eyes!"
Fatty burst into laughter as if he hadn't just been ambushed by the strange Long Tongue!
With the plan set, Li Nan quietly asked, "Fatty, what do you think that monster really is?"
Fatty pondered and said, "Something that can climb to the rooftop must be something like a gecko; and with all that slime on it, it should be some kind of amphibian; plus that Long Tongue we saw earlier could belong to a frog or a snake. Could it be a hybrid monster?"
Fatty's analysis made some sense, but his final conclusion was a bit off.
Li Nan frowned. "It's certain that there’s a mutated creature in this building. However, after our encounter, we didn't even get a good look at it. This situation seems quite tricky; I wonder if we can make it out unscathed this time!"
Fatty's optimistic nature showed again. "Who cares if we can make it out unscathed? Just thinking about that rat being toyed with makes me happy!"
Li Nan waved his hand. "Let's get serious now. That thing was circling above us without being detected, so its hiding ability is impressive. We must be extremely careful!"
Bitter Melon nodded. "Now the four of us need to keep our eyes peeled in all directions; otherwise, it would be easy to fall into another trap!"
Li Nan tore off a segment of that guy's tongue, but the damage shouldn't be too severe. Now both sides have suffered losses, so it should be considered a draw.
After slightly adjusting their strategy, Li Nan took the lead, keeping a close watch on the ninety-degree range ahead, while Fatty and Bitter Melon guarded the flanks, and Lin Hai focused on their rear and overhead.
With this arrangement, they anticipated that the monster would not be able to get close.
When they reached the eighth floor, they found dark green slime scattered across the stairway, likely left behind by the monster during its escape.
Li Nan carefully observed the traces of slime and noticed some footprints. The monster's footprints were webbed, confirming one of Fatty's points: the creature was indeed amphibious!
Continuing to examine the footprints, Li Nan deduced from their size that the monster was probably over two meters tall and about two or three times the size of an average adult, meaning it wasn't particularly gigantic.
Upon hearing Li Nan's analysis, Fatty exclaimed, "Brother Nan, you must have been a detective before; how can you tell all this!"
Li Nan chuckled, "I used to run a dye shop. Want me to give you some color?"
Fatty waved his hand dismissively, "Come on, Brother Nan, don't joke with me. If you wanted to tear me apart, it would just take a moment!"
Li Nan didn't continue bantering with Fatty but said seriously, "That monster has gone to the eighth floor. If we want to avoid harm from it, we need to strike first!"
Fatty nodded first, "Alright! I'm with you!"
Bitter Melon wanted to advise Li Nan that it's better to avoid trouble; since the monster had already entered the eighth floor, it was no longer their concern. However, he was surprised that Li Nan, despite being cautious, was also so competitive!
Bitter Melon frowned and said, "We should prioritize finding the Snake Venom Antidote; let's not waste any more time here!"
Li Nan shook his head and replied, "You're mistaken. Strike first or suffer later. We almost faced total annihilation because we fell into an ambush earlier. Besides, do you think that monster will just give up easily? If we don't eliminate it now, it will come back to haunt us!"
Seeing Li Nan's resolute expression, Bitter Melon felt a jolt in his heart. This kind of aura could only belong to a seasoned leader in the underworld—someone ruthless and decisive!
Bitter Melon paused for a moment and replied, "Then let's do as Brother Nan suggests!"
Li Nan pointed ahead, "The slime traces extend all the way to the corridor in front. That must be its lair; we can't be careless!"
Fatty chuckled softly, "When have I ever suffered a loss? That old monster took advantage of me. If I don't get it back together, then I might as well become Fat Grandson!"
Lin Hai stood behind Fatty, trying to keep a straight face, almost laughing out loud, while Li Nan turned around at that moment and said, "Everyone needs to be serious. Can't you feel that a great battle is imminent?"
Fatty immediately put on a serious expression and said, "Alright! Let's go straight for the heart of the matter. If I don't make him bleed all over the place, then I'll admit defeat!"
Li Nan angrily replied, "Damn it, we really shouldn't bring this Fatty on missions anymore; he affects morale!"
Fatty laughed, "If you don't bring me, your missions will be so much more boring!"
A burst of laughter erupted, and even Li Nan couldn't help but chuckle.
