Suddenly encountering someone like Li Nan left the dirty man puzzled, and after several exchanges, he found it even harder to grasp his intentions.
Li Nan smiled at the man and said, "I told you, my name is Li Nan!" He then retracted the AK-47 rifle in his hand and extended his right hand.
The man got up from the ground but did not shake hands with Li Nan. Instead, he turned to pick up the mud bucket that had fallen aside. After returning it to someone else, he said, "My name is Lin Hai!"
Li Nan's right hand paused in mid-air, and he exclaimed, "Crossing the forest and snowfields, with a spirit that soars to the heavens—what a great name!"
Lin Hai was indifferent and simply replied, "I'm coming with you!"
Li Nan looked around at a figure resembling a foreman and said to him, "Lin Hai wants to go out with me. Is there any problem?"
The foreman had a stiff expression and merely nodded, saying, "Brother Nan can do as he pleases!"
The large iron gate suddenly opened, and Li Nan tossed the AK-47 to Lin Hai. "Here's a piece for you! If you still hold a grudge, just give me a round!"
Lin Hai caught the AK-47 with one hand and weighed it before saying, "It's a good gun! But it seems there aren't many bullets!"
Li Nan smiled, "Having a piece is already quite good!"
Trust between men is actually quite simple; two hearts connecting can be as easy as sharing a drink or having a conversation! Li Nan knew that among the many schemers in the camp, Lin Hai was definitely someone he could trust!
Seeing Li Nan, who appeared to be around twenty-four or twenty-five years old, Lin Hai noted that although he had not yet grown facial hair, his earlier demeanor and strength were evident—he was certainly no fool!
Lin Hai smiled wryly and said, "No matter how I try to avoid it, I still have to leave this camp!"
With Li Nan in front and Lin Hai behind, the two men—one with a longbow and one with an AK-47—set off.
Li Nan asked Lin Hai, "Why are you willing to be a mud worker instead of facing zombies outside?"
Lin Hai rested the AK-47 on his shoulder and replied, "You only know I was a police officer before; you have no idea what I've been through!"
Li Nan smiled wryly, "In this apocalypse, who doesn't have a story? If everyone were as self-destructive as you, then no one would survive in this world!"
Lin Hai stopped in his tracks, looked directly at Li Nan, and hesitantly asked, "What story do you have?"
Li Nan spread his hands, "My story isn't very complicated, but there is a girl who was abandoned by her biological father when she was young. However, she became strong and independent, eventually becoming a news anchor at a television station. When the world changed, she was in a hospital, holding on through the night, facing danger multiple times and going through many hardships, but she managed to survive. There is also a little boy who lost his parents at the age of twelve and then wandered the city, living off what he could find. With just his frail little hands, he has survived until now. Aren't these all living examples?"
Lin Hai was speechless. "Indeed, with the apocalypse upon us, no one can escape! My story is also quite simple. When the world changed, I was just getting off work. When I returned home, I found that my wife and daughter had already been infected by zombies. In the end, I had no choice but to shoot them; they were two delicate women and the loves of my life. Yet they died at my hands. I couldn't accept this reality, so..."
Li Nan patted Lin Hai's shoulder. "Fate plays tricks on us; there's nothing we can do. If I had a choice, I would have preferred to die long ago rather than live alone in this bloody world. But we can't; both of us crawled out from piles of corpses. Are you really willing to let this world continue to be ravaged?"
Lin Hai's eyes felt sticky, but then he smiled and said, "After that, I fled my home in despair, wandering like a lost soul. A few days later, I was discovered by a group of people who brought me back to this camp. They saw my police uniform and thought I was someone who could kill zombies, but they didn't expect that after being brought to the camp, I was just a powerless ghost!"
As they walked along the road, suddenly a zombie lunged out at them. Li Nan calmly drew his compound bow from behind him and nocked a feathered arrow with one hand. He closed his left eye and with a swift sound of "whoosh," the arrow flew through the air and struck the zombie right in the forehead!
Lin Hai was about to raise his gun to shoot but realized Li Nan was faster. He asked, "You can do that?"
"I learned it when I was young; I'm quite skilled!" Li Nan ran over and stepped on the zombie's head with one foot. Then he pulled the feathered arrow out forcefully from the zombie's skull!
After shaking off the filth from the arrowhead, he placed it back into his quiver and turned to Lin Hai asking, "Then why don't you want to leave the camp?"
"I can't bring myself to kill zombies because whenever I see them, I think of my wife and daughter. I can't face them!"
"Then why did you come out with me today?"
Lin Hai's expression became blank for a moment. After three seconds he replied, "I was scared by you; so I came here under your coercion!"
Li Nan chuckled. "Is that so? Well now that I'm not coercing you anymore, you can go back!"
"Since I've already come out, there's no reason for me to go back so easily. I'm a person of principles; once I've made up my mind about something, I won't change it!"
Li Nan turned around and pulled Lin Hai along. "Since you still have ties in your heart, why not face this bleak world right now!"
Lin Hai stood in front of the fallen Zombie and asked, "What do you want me to do?"
"Whether it's killing people or killing Zombies, we have to do these things!"
Lin Hai looked at the Zombie, whose clothes were already tattered, teeth exposed, and mouth and nose connected, looking extremely grotesque. The upper body of the Zombie revealed the characteristics of a woman's chest.
Lin Hai closed his eyes and pondered for a moment before stepping down hard on the Zombie's head, crushing it underfoot, causing a burst of white goo to ooze out.
Li Nan said nothing, simply turning to walk away. Lin Hai opened his eyes and began to sing passionately, "Crossing the forest and snowfields, my spirit soars to the heavens..."

Lin Hai couldn't understand why he followed this man who was a few years younger than him out of the camp. He couldn't articulate the reason, but he felt that Li Nan was definitely different from Liu Long and Gao Hu in the camp. Although they had just met, he had this instinctive judgment!
It had been over an hour since they left the camp. Besides aimlessly searching along the way, they had found nothing.
Li Nan spotted a small Newsstand by the roadside and approached it, only to find that there were only a few discarded newspapers inside.
Peering into the Newsstand, Li Nan didn't see any Old Man transformed into a Zombie. However, when he glanced back, he was suddenly startled!
Behind the Newsstand was an old Daiyang Car, shiny and black. Although he couldn't see the brand name, Li Nan immediately recognized it as the kind of vehicle he had to dig deep into his pockets to ride when he was a child!
Li Nan walked over and sat down on it. However, the rear wheel of the Daiyang Car was locked to a fire hydrant by a chain.
"Damn it!" Li Nan cursed under his breath and kicked at the chain several times until it broke.
Meanwhile, Lin Hai was more interested in a Chery QQ parked on the side of the road!
Li Nan looked up and saw Lin Hai's actions and couldn't help but chuckle, "What's so good about that car? It looks like a ladybug; there's no comparison to my Ocean Bicycle!"
Lin Hai opened the car door and pulled out a decayed corpse from inside. After rummaging around for a while, he said, "There's still fuel in here; we can drive it. Maybe we can cover a wider search area!"
Li Nan rode Ocean Bicycle and first took a few laps around Newsstand. It felt pretty good, but this bike is really too bulky and not suitable for use as a ride! There was no other way, so Li Nan could only get into the Chery QQ, and the Daiyang Car was stuffed into the trunk of the car by him. There was a rotten smell in the car, but when Li Nan opened the window, she saw a comprehensive Department Store Building from a distance! Li Nan pointed at the building and said to Lin Hai: "We should go over there and have a look, maybe we can get something!"
