A layer of fine sweat appeared on Liu Heping's forehead, but the scalpel in his hand never wavered. Even Li Xiaofan, standing nearby, was slightly taken aback; how could this person maintain such composure in the face of a horde of Zombies?
Li Nan, who had fallen to the ground, had already been helped up by Li Xiaofan, but he seemed completely oblivious, as if he had fainted.
Under the operating table, Zhang Li and others were surveying the area to ensure there were no remaining Zombies.
Zhang Li let out a quiet sigh, blaming his carelessness for the loss of three brothers.
Haizi collected the bodies of the three fallen brothers and said to Zhang Li, "Boss, you should personally see them off."
Zhang Li waved his hand and hoarsely replied, "I can't bear to see this scene anymore; you do it instead!"
Haizi also closed his eyes tightly as he took action, smashing the bodies that had been bitten by Zombies, especially their heads.
At that moment, Han Guang approached the operating table and stared at the limp Li Nan with a hint of suspicion.
Li Xiaofan said, "He might have fainted again; it shouldn't be a problem!"
Han Guang extended his right hand to check for Li Nan's breath and then lifted his eyelids. They were heavy; he wasn't in a coma but seemed to have taken some kind of drug that caused dizziness.
Han Guang turned to Liu Heping and said, "Although I'm not from the medical field, I can still recognize the symptoms caused by Lidocaine. Moderate unconsciousness and dilated pupils are common effects of this anesthetic, right?"
Li Xiaofan was stunned. What did Han Guang mean by that? Was Li Nan's fainting not an accident but rather intentional?
Liu Heping's right hand wielding the scalpel paused for just half a second before returning to normal.
Li Xiaofan, closest to Liu Heping, sensed something was off and immediately raised his Submachine Gun, pointing it at Liu Heping's head while shouting, "Please stop the surgery immediately!"
Liu Heping paid no mind; it was as if he were possessed by a butcher with the scalpel. However, Liu Ziming, as the patient, was not just any ordinary person.
Seeing that Liu Heping remained unfazed, Li Xiaofan grew anxious and pressed the gun barrel against Liu Heping's head.
"Done!" With a long exhale from Liu Heping, his upright body collided directly with Li Xiaofan's gun barrel.
"What does this mean?" Liu Heping noticed Li Xiaofan's actions and asked in return.
Li Xiaofan shouted, "What did Han Guang say about Lidocaine? What exactly is it?"
Liu Heping wiped the fine sweat from his forehead and smiled, saying, "Lidocaine is indeed an anesthetic. I am quite curious how Officer Han knows about this."
Han Guang's expression turned serious. "How did you inject Lidocaine into Li Nan's body?"
Liu Heping extended his left hand to block the gun in Li Xiaofan's hand, while Zhang Li, who was under the operating table, sensed something unusual and quickly approached with caution.
At Zhang Li's signal, Li Xiaofan finally lowered his Submachine Gun.
The smile on Liu Heping's face grew wider. "Since Officer Han has already seen through it, I won't hide it anymore. That Lidocaine was actually injected by Li Nan himself; I didn't do anything!"
Upon hearing this, Han Guang suddenly realized that the reason Haizi had fallen behind Liu Heping was to obtain an injection called L-aminopyrine, which can reduce fever. However, it was clear that Liu Heping had secretly tampered with it, causing Li Nan to fall victim.
As he understood this, Han Guang swiftly drew his sidearm and said to Zhang Li and the others, "This person is dangerous; do not trust him!"
Liu Heping maintained his smile, but the surgical knife had already been placed against Liu Ziming's neck. "A surgical knife is still a knife; it can save lives or take them. Officer Han should not act rashly!"
Zhang Li had already harbored doubts about Liu Heping, but in order to save his brother's life, he could only tentatively trust him. However, he did not expect Liu Heping to resort to such underhanded tactics at such a disadvantageous moment, leaving him somewhat unprepared.
Zhang Li shouted to those around him, "Don't act rashly!" Then he turned to Liu Heping and said, "We are all underground together; why make things difficult for our own people? Besides, there are Zombies outside!"
Han Guang chuckled. "Captain Zhang, do you think the Zombies that appeared silently just now were a coincidence?"
Zhang Li shook his head. "Not a coincidence. Do you mean that the Zombies can be controlled?" As this thought crossed his mind, he looked at Liu Heping and couldn't help but feel a chill rise within him.
Han Guang nodded in agreement.
At that moment, Liu Heping laughed heartily. "Police are indeed police; their insight is extraordinary. If it weren't for the Lidocaine in Li Nan's system taking effect too late, you all would have been bitten by Zombies long ago!"
Zhang Li questioned in confusion, "How is that possible... How could Zombies be controlled?"
Liu Heping pressed the surgical knife against Liu Ziming's carotid artery without answering Zhang Li's question and simply stated, "The surgery was successful; the patient's condition hasn't worsened. If I don't stab him now, he will recover soon. As a doctor, whether I save or kill depends on what you all decide!"
"What do you want?" Zhang Li asked.
"Very simple: first, put all your weapons on the ground!"
Zhang Li hesitated slightly but eventually dropped his Triangular Bayonet and signaled to those around him to also throw their weapons on the ground.
Han Guang had no choice but to comply.
At this moment, Liu Heping said to Li Xiaofan by the operating table, "You all step back and leave Li Nan here!"
Everyone followed his orders, while Liu Heping looked around. He first moved to the side of the limp Li Nan, then gauged the reaction speed of Zhang Li and the others. In a swift motion, he pressed the scalpel against a vital point on Li Nan's body.
Liu Heping supported Li Nan, both to conceal himself and to threaten everyone. Clearly, he did not dare to underestimate these national assets.
Liu Heping sidled past everyone, saying, "Don't move; otherwise, Li Nan will be stabbed to death!"
He tiptoed out of Door 4, then swayed his body and pressed the button outside the Second Morgue's door. Suddenly, the password-protected door began to close slowly.
Throughout the process, Han Guang frowned. It was evident that the situation had gone beyond his control, and he could not understand what Liu Heping was truly after.
Zhang Li cursed inwardly, "If I had known earlier, I should have shot him dead back then to eliminate this threat!"
Haizi and the others were also furious, but currently, Liu Ziming's condition was quite critical.
