The enchanting woman captivated the attention of every man present, their eyes wide with fascination, as if they wished to press their very eyeballs against her.
A Dancer dressed in a deep blue gown approached them, swaying her hips to the music, her seductive smile dazzling.
Night Star observed without any reaction, yet she was thoroughly engrossed, occasionally poking the person beside her and teasingly saying, "Look at that! She's dancing so well!"
Her admiration was heartfelt; however, Night Star seemed to be in a wooden state, not even glancing her way as she focused intently on peeling the fruit in her hands.
With a light huff, she turned her head back, her gaze once again fixated on the Dancer. The alluring smile was like that of a beguiling fox; just one glance could pull someone into a deep abyss from which they could not escape.
As the dance flowed gracefully, the sheer fabric of her attire fluttered continuously. With the night breeze blowing outside the hall, she could already catch a whiff of the woman's unique perfume, a scent that lingered in her memory.
Her curiosity about the Dancer grew stronger. Suddenly, she was drawn to a glint reflecting off something— it was the Sapphire Ring worn by the Dancer.
It matched her outfit perfectly for the day; however, the gemstone stood out distinctly, making it easy to notice. Looking elsewhere at the Dancer, she found her hands empty, which struck her as odd.
As the dance continued, the Dancer offered a cup of wine, downing it in one go before refilling it and handing it to her with a smile, persistently encouraging her to drink.
Yet Mo Xier merely smiled as she accepted it, holding it in her hand without drinking it down like everyone else.
As the music grew more intense and the dance approached its conclusion, the scattered Dancers gradually returned while the blue-clad Dancer seemed reluctant to leave.
Seeing that she was now alone, she finally bit her lip and began to spin back, returning to her designated spot just before the music ended.
As the performance concluded, enthusiastic applause and cheers erupted in the hall. Twirling the wine glass in her hand, a flicker of hesitation crossed Mo Xier's eyes. The Dancer was unusual, and naturally, she could not recklessly drink from this cup!
Unbeknownst to her, she caught a glimpse of a pure white cat out of the corner of her eye. Without thinking much, she used the food in her hand to lure the cat from the corner.
The cat seemed almost human-like, obediently staying by her side and occasionally rubbing against her ankle, displaying an unusual intimacy.
Seeing how adorable it was, she immediately lifted it up and presented it to the man, proudly saying, "Look at this cat, isn't it cute?"
As she spoke, she raised the cat's paw and waved it at him.
Her expression was exceptionally cute, with a hint of playfulness. Night Star's gaze slid from the cat to her face in an instant.
His familiarity with the cat lasted only a moment before all his attention shifted to the woman's face.
After playing with the cat for a while, he suddenly looked up and met her focused gaze. "Why are you staring at me like that?" she exclaimed, glaring at him and shaking her fist! She wrinkled her nose and made a funny face at him.
He stared at her intently before suddenly reaching out. She instinctively took a step back, feeling extremely wary. "What are you doing?"
Night Star continued to advance with an irresistible gaze. He gently wiped the corner of her mouth with his hand and softly said, "You've got food on your mouth; are you three years old?"
The woman's face instantly turned crimson, her embarrassment evident. Her grip loosened suddenly, and the cat that had been quietly nestled in her arms jumped onto the table. At first, she didn't pay much attention.
Suddenly, the once lively cat slumped down. By the time she noticed, it was already barely breathing! Trembling, she flipped it over, only to find its once bright eyes filled with blood!
The horrific memories surged back like a tidal wave, impossible to resist. Overcome with fear, she let out a piercing scream! The shrill sound drowned out all music in Liuli Hall, causing everyone inside to quickly stand up and look in her direction.
Night Star was closest and reacted the fastest. He wrapped his arms around her and softly comforted her by whispering in her ear, "It's okay, I'm here. You don't have to be afraid."
However, such comfort seemed to be of no use, and her body trembled even more violently.
The symptoms of Aunt Liu's tragic death that the villagers had mentioned earlier, Ru Er's betrayal, those emotions that seemed to have been buried deep in her heart, poured out like a dam breaking the moment she saw the blood!
"It's all in the past! There's nothing to fear! Do you understand?" The man's voice grew deeper, resonating in her mind like a heavy bell, helping her to stabilize her thoughts slightly.
"What happened to her? What is going on?" The emperor rushed over, his face anxious as he looked at the woman engulfed in deep fear, his eyes filled with evident concern.
But at that moment, Night Star had no time to respond. He pulled her deeply into his embrace, continuously comforting her, his broad palm warm and repeatedly patting her back.
As he comforted her, her emotions finally began to stabilize, yet her gaze still could not bear to look at the lifeless body of the bloodied cat.
"This cat? Isn't it Consort Jin's pet? How did it end up here?" Little Li behind the emperor immediately recognized the source of the cat, his voice filled with surprise.
After Li Ye ascended the throne, there weren't many concubines in his harem; they could be counted on ten fingers. Yet Consort Jin was among the most favored of this small group. She had always been the center of attention in the harem, and other concubines likely rushed to please her whenever they saw her.
"Are you sure?" The emperor also expressed clear astonishment. "How could Consort Jin's cat end up here?"
"Your Majesty may not know this, but this cat has been missing for some time now; we couldn't find it anywhere. I never expected it would appear here."
Little Li stepped forward a few paces to examine the cat's body closely but found no useful information; he could only confirm that the cat was dead.
Having calmed herself down, Mo Xier slowly turned her head and glanced at the distant corpse before quickly turning away again, as if she could not control the anger rising within her.
"Watch your hair; do you really want to turn into White Hair in front of everyone?" Sensing the change in the woman's emotions, the man suddenly grasped her wrist.
She tightly grasped his hand, took a few deep breaths, and said in a low voice, "Let me take a look. I understand medicine better than you do."
Slowly approaching the corpse, she tried to calm herself, pulling one hand back while using the other to carefully examine the cat's body. Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly noticed the remaining wine on the table, and an idea popped into her mind. "Is there anything silver?"
"Yes!" Little Li reacted quickly, stepping forward to take a silver chopstick from those used by the emperor and handed it to her, asking, "Will this work?"
Although it was a bit rough, it would suffice. Taking the silver chopstick, she touched the remaining wine with it, and in just a moment, the tip of the chopstick turned black. This reaction proved that the wine was poisoned!
Upon reaching this conclusion, everyone was in an uproar! Someone actually attempted to poison someone at a royal banquet? If the cat hadn't drunk that wine, she would have been the one dead!
The emperor's expression darkened instantly, carrying a hint of ominousness. How dare anyone commit such an act right under his nose! It was as if they didn't regard him at all!
"Indeed!" Mo Xier's face showed realization as she slowly set down the chopsticks in her hand and began to search rapidly through the crowd for the previous Dancer. However, where was that woman's figure now?
"You knew there was something wrong with the wine all along?" Night Star immediately sensed the clue and asked in a deep voice.
She slowly nodded, dipped her finger into some of the remaining wine and brought it to her nose to smell. Her face turned pale instantly. Such a vicious poison; whoever administered it likely wanted her dead without a trace!
Her trembling hand held his tightly as she gradually closed her eyes, her mind feeling as if it had exploded with pain.
She couldn't understand who wanted to harm her so ruthlessly—from the initial pursuit to later eliminating those who had helped her, and now another assassination attempt!
What had the previous owner of this body done to incur such enmity?
After so many incidents, all of the emperor's emotions vanished as he sternly declared, "To dare act so brazenly before me! Guards, seal off Liuli Hall! No one is allowed in or out until we find the culprit!"
The woman suddenly spoke up, standing and saying, "Your Majesty, I know who the murderer is."
"Oh? Is that so?" Not only was the Emperor curious, but even those who were merely there to watch were filled with curiosity, though more of them were still puzzled.
"I noticed that the one wearing the royal blue dress, Dancer, was different from the others, and only she had touched the wine cup. The person who poisoned it must be her without a doubt!"
"Is that based solely on your intuition?" The Emperor couldn't help but retort, his words filled with doubt.
Mo Xier's eyes sparkled with confidence, making others take notice. "Of course not, but as long as I find her, I can prove that she is the murderer!"
Night Star also showed an appreciative gaze; this woman always managed to surprise people.
However, someone in the crowd expressed disdain. "You, a mere girl, how could you catch a murderer? It would be better to let a man handle this matter to avoid making a fool of yourself if she turns out not to be the culprit!"
The speaker was none other than Qin Fan, who had just received punishment.
Mo Xier was unfazed, her eyes slightly raised. The previous panic had vanished, replaced by boundless confidence. "It seems that Lord Qin's punishment wasn't severe enough; he hasn't learned his lesson and is still speaking recklessly at this moment!"
"You..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Mo Xier interrupted him. "Whether I can find the murderer or not will depend on the outcome!"
