The only sound in the room was Mo Xier's occasional sobbing. She secretly glanced at the man with her peripheral vision; the term "unyielding" could probably be used to describe him. 0

"Hey! I've said so much, and you don't even comfort me a bit. Do you have any conscience at all?" She stopped crying and sat directly across from him, slapping her palm on the table, appearing quite imposing. 0

Casting her a sidelong glance, Night Star turned away and said slowly, "How should I comfort you? You can manage on your own anyway." 0

His indifferent tone silenced her instantly, and she didn't say another word. The initial amazement she felt upon seeing him had long been worn away by his subsequent coldness. 0

After a long silence, Mo Xier lowered her head and stood up. "Anyway, I'm just a pitiful little thing to you. It's normal that you don't care." With that, she turned to leave. 0

Watching her dejected figure walk away, Night Star felt an inexplicable turmoil in his heart. For the first time, there were ripples in his usually calm eyes. He didn't know when it started, but this woman seemed to affect his mood. 0

Realizing this issue, he quickly retracted his gaze, returning to his original demeanor. No one noticed the change in him. 0

Back in her room, Mo Xier hardly slept a wink throughout the night. Early the next morning, she got up with a pale face that looked somewhat frightening, not to mention the dark circles under her eyes. 0

Ru Er carefully combed her hair and gently asked, "Miss, you don't look well. Did you not sleep well last night?" 0

Shaking her head slightly, it was clear that Mo Xier lacked spirit today and was unwilling to speak. 0

Seeing this, Ru Er couldn't help but sigh softly. The events that occurred in the hall yesterday had already spread throughout the general's residence. She wasn't surprised at all to see the woman in such a mood. 0

"Miss, don't be so downcast. Today I'll style your hair beautifully; I guarantee you'll feel better once you see it." 0

"No need for that. Just do whatever you want. I'm going to Buddha Hall to copy scriptures; there's no need for it to look good." She grasped Ru Er's hand, her face showing endless fatigue. 0

Ru Er was momentarily speechless, retracting her hand and falling silent. 0

Night Star, who had just entered, saw her dejected face. The sunny demeanor she usually had seemed to have wilted like a frostbitten eggplant, looking somewhat pitiful. 0

Step, who was about to step inside, was abruptly halted by a remark from the woman. 0

"Ru Er, is your young master always this cold-blooded and heartless, like a monster?" Mo Xier's tone was strange as she twisted her hair around her fingers repeatedly. 0

"Aside from being a bit indifferent to others, the young master is actually quite good. Miss, please don't speak ill of him," Ru Er said, pursing her lips. 0

Mo Xier, however, paid no mind and seemed to be venting her frustration as she tugged at her hair repeatedly. "He's just a monster! A blockhead!" 0

Night Star at the door wore a cold expression and turned to leave, but the words echoed in his mind. 0

Monster, cold-blooded and heartless—such descriptions had been used for him almost daily since he became aware of himself. After hearing them so often, they naturally didn't matter much anymore. 0

Yet, why did he feel such an oppressive sensation in his heart? Why did it feel so unpleasant to hear that woman say it? 0

His hand slowly covered his chest, gradually tightening. A flicker of hesitation passed through his cold eyes. When did his mood start to be influenced by others? 0

Regaining his composure, when he raised his gaze again, the hesitation had vanished, replaced by an even colder emotion in his deep-set eyes. 0

Today he could have avoided the Court Session; however, for some inexplicable reason, he left the general's residence, not wanting to see Mo Xier's emotions escalating within. 0

After having breakfast, Mo Xier was led by Ru Er to the outside of Buddha Hall. Today she wore a plain white long dress with her hair styled into a bun. Her dark hair had no other adornments, appearing clean and neat. 0

Paired with her pair of pitifully innocent eyes, she looked particularly endearing; however, this appearance seemed somewhat displeasing in the eyes of Old Madam. 0

Rong Mama had been waiting outside the door for a long time. Upon seeing her, a malicious smile instantly appeared on her face. 0

Mo Xier felt a shiver run down her spine. For some reason, every time she saw that expression, it reminded her of Rong Mama from "My Fair Princess"! 0

"Miss, you certainly have a big attitude, making this old servant wait for quite a while," she said with a smile, hiding all her emotions behind her eyes. 0

Forcing a stiff smile, even though she was unwilling, she had to pretend to be polite. "Greetings, Mama. I didn't sleep well last night, so I was delayed today." 0

"Come in with me. Old Madam has been waiting for you for a long time," she said dismissively, casting an eye over Ru Er. Then she continued, "You can return to the courtyard now. Once the young lady finishes copying today's scriptures, I will naturally send someone to escort her back." 0

Ru Er was just an ordinary maid in the general's residence and dared not refuse. She cast a weak glance at Mo Xier before lowering her eyelids and leaving, glancing back three times. 0

As before, the heavy scent of Musk nearly suffocated Mo Xier. Being a medical student, she knew well the potency of Musk. If an ordinary woman were to be immersed in this scent for years, she would likely never be able to conceive again! 0

Old Madam, dressed in dark blue clothing with matching accessories, looked like she was in her fifties despite being only in her early forties due to her attire. 0

"Pay your respects to Old Madam." Respectfully kneeling, even though she was reluctant in her heart, Mo Xier still followed the proper etiquette. 0

She clearly understood the current situation; this general's residence was not ruled by Night Star, at least not at this moment. If she wanted to stay here peacefully, she had to conceal herself. 0

After paying her respects, there was silence. Old Madam kept her eyes closed, murmuring something under her breath. 0

She had long been prepared to kneel but couldn't help but grumble internally. She finally realized the common trait shared by this mother and son—they both liked making others uncomfortable! 0

Thinking of that indifferent man made her grip the edge of her clothing tighter. 0

"Indeed a petty woman; how long has it been since you've been here that you can't hold it together?" Old Madam, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke up, startling her. 0

Calming her emotions, she took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Old Madam taught me that the Night Star told me last night to listen carefully to your teachings." 0

Yesterday, the Night Star clearly said nothing, yet she twisted the facts into something else! 0

The rotating prayer beads suddenly stopped. Old Madam raised her tone slightly, "What else did he say to you?" 0

Observing her expression with a slight lift of her head, Mo Xier pondered for a moment before blurting out whatever came to mind, "The Night Star also said that it wasn't easy for you to raise him, and that I shouldn't contradict you. You're getting older and can't handle being angered!" 0

Everyone in the General's residence knew that Old Madam and the young master had never had a good relationship. Not only did Old Madam raise an eyebrow, but even Rong Mama beside her couldn't help but glance over; those words didn't sound like something the Night Star would say at all. 0

"Also, the Night Star said that no matter what you say, I should just agree with it. He said I could complain to him later, and he would comfort me." One sentence followed another, and these words came out without even passing through her brain! 0

As she continued speaking, Mo Xier's claims became increasingly absurd, and even she felt a bit embarrassed by what she was saying. 0

"Enough!" Old Madam seemed to be provoked. The moment Mo Xier's words were cut off in her throat, she slightly lowered her eyes and acted like an ostrich. 0

Rong Mama hurriedly stepped forward to support Old Madam and softly comforted her, "Old Madam, please don't get upset; this girl from the countryside doesn't understand." 0

Mo Xier inexplicably raised her eyes. She was merely expressing a son's concern for his mother; although it was somewhat exaggerated, why was Old Madam so emotionally stirred? 0

"Get up; you don't need to kneel anymore." Old Madam's tone was icy, just like the Night Star's. Her gaze wandered, not knowing where to look. 0

"Thank you, Old Madam." Although she expressed her gratitude, she didn't move immediately. After kneeling for so long, her knees had gone numb; she moved slightly before slowly standing up. 0

"Over there, I order you to copy that book by today." Old Madam spoke coldly. Following her gaze, Mo Xier saw a thick scripture on a small table in one corner of Buddha Hall. 0

"Is it here?" 0

Old Madam nodded noncommittally, leaving Mo Xier momentarily speechless. This place was filled with Musk, and having her copy scriptures here was clearly a way to make things difficult for her. 0

"Old Madam, this might not be appropriate. I am still a young lady." 0

Her words were quite subtle, yet Old Madam seemed to not understand, continuing to arrange her clothes and loudly stating, "What's wrong? Haven't I been here all along?" 0

"That's different." Mo Xier's tone suddenly rose, her eyes filled with disbelief. 0

"If there really is a difference, you are just a country girl. Noble ladies have copied scriptures here before; why can't you?" Before Old Madam could respond, Rong Mama's sarcastic remarks came out, her disdain evident in her words. 0

Such condescending remarks made her feel sick. Suppressing her emotions, Mo Xier pretended she hadn't heard anything. At worst, she could extinguish the Musk after everyone left and simply open the window. 0

Thinking this, she gritted her teeth and nodded in agreement. "Since Old Madam insists, how can I refuse? Let it be here then." 0

However, things did not go as she had hoped. She thought she would be left alone, but Old Madam left while Rong Mama stayed behind, seemingly there to supervise her. No matter how much she wanted to open the window, she had to endure it. 0

As time passed, her heart felt like it was on fire, utterly restless. 0

"Miss, you must copy well. This old servant will be waiting right here until you finish!" Rong Mama wore a sly grin that was annoyingly unwarranted. 0
