"Have you had enough?"
"Of course not! Such great muscles..." Mo Xier replied without thinking, completely oblivious to his increasingly darkening expression.
He grabbed her hand with a firmer grip, his voice turning colder. "Stop it!" Without any consideration that Mo Xier was a woman, he showed no mercy, causing her to yelp in pain.
"It hurts, it hurts! Let go! Let go!"
Night Star immediately released her, but Mo Xier, caught off guard, fell to the ground. Not only did her hand hurt, but her backside was also in agony.
"What a petty man!" she muttered softly, casting him an annoyed glance.
Little did she know that Night Star had excellent hearing; he clearly heard her faint words and asked in a deep voice, "What did you say?"
"Nothing! Nothing! I was just complimenting your looks!" With a fake smile on her face, she waved her hands repeatedly, fearing that this man might explode again!
His brows furrowed even tighter. This woman seemed to have some issues; not only was she scatterbrained when she spoke, but perhaps there was something wrong with her mind as well.
Mo Xier was unaware of his thoughts. If she knew, they would probably end up arguing again.
She twisted her wrist and clumsily got up from the ground. "What is wrong with you? You make me hurt so much; you have no compassion for a woman at all!"
He didn't care and glanced up at her. "I've told you before, don't even think about leaving. How else do I need to say it for you to understand?"
"I got it! Since I came back, it's been the same few sentences over and over. You're not annoyed by saying it, but I'm annoyed just listening!"
"Then let me say something new: tomorrow come with me to see Old Madam."
"Oh... huh? What!" The sleepiness vanished instantly, and her large eyes widened in shock.
What is Old Madam? Could it be his mother?
"Old Madam is my mother. When you see her tomorrow, you don't have to pay attention to anything she says; I will protect you."
The confusion in her mind spun around once before receiving an answer. Weakly shrinking back, she nervously asked, "Why do we have to meet her? What is your identity?"
She had been brought here while unconscious, and after waking up in this place, she thought she would not stay long, so she hadn't asked for details until this moment.
Slowly scanning the room, it was only then that she noticed the exquisite decorations; every detail exuded understated luxury.
Even someone like her, who was unfamiliar with such things, could tell at a glance that the furnishings in this room were different from those of an ordinary household!
Raising her gaze slightly, filled with scrutinizing eyes, she asked, "Does it matter who I am?"
"Does it not matter? At least let me know where I am and what I will encounter tomorrow."
After a moment, Night Star spoke again, but only three words came out: "The General's Residence."
Mo Xier waited for a long time but still received no further information. Frustrated, she stamped her foot and gritted her teeth, "I asked you to tell me where this is, and you really haven't said a single extra word! You are truly something!"
"You will know what you encounter tomorrow when tomorrow comes; why must you know today?"
With wide eyes, Mo Xier realized she couldn't argue with him and turned to leave without further debate.
What she didn't see was the man's somewhat lonely gaze after she left. How could she know that for so many years, she was the first person who could be so bold in front of Night Star!
As dawn broke, Mo Xier was dragged out of bed by a group of maids. Yawning and looking at the person in the mirror, she suddenly widened her eyes and unconsciously placed her hand on the mirror.
Since her arrival in this world, she had not taken a good look at her own appearance. She knew she was beautiful, but she had no idea just how stunning she truly was!
Beneath her elegantly arched Willow Brows were a pair of sparkling eyes, slightly red from lack of sleep the previous night, which made her look particularly pitiful.
Her nose was not particularly high or sharp, yet it softened her features considerably. Her deep-set eyes, upon closer inspection, were not entirely black; they held a hint of gray, giving her gaze an unusually enchanting quality.
Such beauty could easily be described as devastatingly captivating!
"Miss, the young master has instructed the servants to attend to you. He wishes to take you to meet Old Madam. You may not know this, but it has been years since the young master has shown interest in women; you are the first!"
With her brows slightly raised, Mo Xier's interest was piqued. She had always known that man was extraordinary, but she hadn't expected him to be a monk who kept his distance from women!
"What is your name? You seem quite clever," she said lightly, offering a compliment that lacked sincerity but still brought a smile to the listener's face.
"I am called Ru Er. I have served by the young master's side for a long time. It is my fortune to serve you, Miss," she replied, her hands deftly styling Mo Xier's hair into an elegant updo while wearing a bright smile.
With the corners of her mouth slightly lifted, Mo Xier softly asked, "Ru Er, you are the first person I have met in this general's residence! I would like to know what Old Madam is like. I am feeling a bit anxious since I am new here."
Although Mo Xier could be somewhat muddled at times, she was quite clear-headed when it came to serious matters. Given that she knew nothing about her current situation, she naturally exercised caution and prudence! There could be no room for error.
Feigning anxiety and lowering herself to ask a maid for information might yield the answers she sought.
"Old Madam is very kind to her servants; you need not worry, Miss. It's just..." The maid only managed half of her sentence before suddenly stopping and refusing to continue.
Sensing the maid's hesitation, Mo Xier's smile grew even more gentle. Even looking at herself in the mirror made her feel as if she were being melted away.
"What is it just...?"
Glancing at her timidly, Ru Er seemed afraid of something and simply shook her head repeatedly, no matter how much Mo Xier pressed for an answer.
Seeing this, Mo Xier also relaxed her mind, closing her eyes and allowing Ru Er's hands to play with her face.
"Miss, you look really beautiful!"
Opening her eyes again, she was met with Ru Er's cheerful gaze. Turning to look in the mirror, the surprise on her face was completely unmasked.
Dressed in a pink and white long gown, adorned with an exquisite headpiece and rosy cheeks, she resembled a celestial fairy descending from the clouds, radiating an ethereal charm untouched by the dust of the world.
Her hair was free of any gold or silver decorations, instead holding a peach blossom freshly picked from a peach tree, which made her fair complexion appear even more delicate, captivating anyone who glanced at her.
"The young master's taste is indeed excellent. This morning, as I was carrying the clothes, I ran into the young master. He immediately took a liking to this outfit and said it would look good on you. I didn't expect it to be true!"
Ru Er's eyes were already small, but when she smiled like this, they narrowed down to mere slits, making her look exceptionally adorable.
Tilting her head slightly, Mo Xier's eyes sparkled with dazzling light. She was somewhat accustomed to her own expression of amazement; after all, she was stunned herself—how could others not be?
"Are you done yet?" An oblivious Night Star strode in. Upon seeing Mo Xier's carefully arranged appearance, his steps noticeably paused but quickly returned to normal.
"Alright, alright, let's go!"
Like a yellow oriole, she chirped and dashed in front of the man. After catching a glimpse of her own beauty, Mo Xier's earlier annoyance at being woken up early vanished instantly. She felt much happier and even found his icy expression somewhat cute.
Spreading her arms and spinning around in front of him, her eyes gleamed with pride as she excitedly asked, "So, how do I look?"
Faced with such a question, the man maintained his cold demeanor. However, there was a slight change in his gaze as he looked elsewhere. "If you're done, let's hurry up and not waste time." With that, he turned and walked away, completely ignoring the playful expressions behind him.
"What a piece of work! Thinking he's so great! Can't even give someone a compliment! He's just a blockhead!" She muttered softly. Watching him walk further away, she had no choice but to lift her skirt and quicken her pace to catch up.
"Hey, blockhead! Wait for me! You have long legs and walk fast; isn't that clearly bullying my short legs?"
Mo Xier, who was focused on walking, did not expect the man in front of her to suddenly stop, causing her to bump into his solid back. Rubbing her sore nose from the impact, she was about to complain when she heard Night Star's indifferent voice from above.
"I have a name, it's Night Star, not whatever you called me! Also, knowing your legs are short, why waste so much time?"
With that one sentence, she found herself at a loss for words to retort.
"Hurry up and keep up. I have things to do and no time to waste here with you."
"Hey, Night Star, are you going to the morning court?" In Mo Xier's impression, generals were also ministers and naturally attended the morning court.
"It's already past noon. If the emperor were like you, this Heavenly Universe Kingdom would be in chaos. And I'm not Night Star!"
Mo Xier ignored what he said and continued to call him Night Star as she pleased.
After winding around for a while, all she could see were exquisite buildings. Many crafts that would require machines in modern times were everywhere here, making them seem somewhat worthless.
"Night Star, your general's residence is quite nice; it's really luxurious. Doesn't your emperor take care of this?"
"It was granted by the emperor; call me by my name!"
"I'm going to call you Night Star! Night Star!"
Turning around to look at the stubborn woman, a sense of helplessness suddenly rose from deep within him. What kind of woman had he picked up? At that moment, he had no idea that it was because of this woman that he would have a life completely different from his current one in the future.
With just one glance, he turned his head away and ignored her, making a concession. Mo Xier laughed alone for a long time; sometimes this man was quite adorable!
As soon as she stepped over the threshold into the main hall, the woman keenly sensed that the atmosphere here was different—almost solemn.
An elderly lady dressed in deep purple finery sat in the main seat, her eyes slightly closed as she continuously turned a string of Golden Sandalwood prayer beads in her hand. Her hair was simply styled with little decoration, looking very plain.
"Mother, I have brought her," he said respectfully, bowing to Old Madam, while Mo Xier, following behind him, curiously fixed her gaze on the person seated.
"She is just a girl brought back from the countryside, completely lacking in manners!"
Old Madam suddenly opened her eyes, her sharp gaze fixed unblinkingly on Mo Xier, causing her to instinctively take a step back.
Her expression stiffened; in that moment of eye contact, she felt the hostility emanating from this woman! Yet she had no idea where this animosity originated.
"What? You see me and still do not pay your respects? Standing there like that is your idea of courtesy?"
Originally thinking that Night Star had merely brought back a country girl, she found it hardly surprising. However, upon seeing Mo Xier, a surge of hatred unexpectedly welled up within her!
Such an extraordinarily beautiful woman—no wonder he couldn't bear to let go! But the more Night Star desired something, the less she was willing to allow him to have it!
"Mo Xi'er pays her respects to Old Madam. May Old Madam be well." Fortunately, Mo Xier reacted quickly; after a moment of fear, she soon composed herself and stepped forward with a smile to offer her greetings.
Before coming here, she had already done her homework and learned a few tricks from Ru Er just for this occasion.
She bowed respectfully, but Old Madam showed no intention of allowing her to rise. Instantly, the atmosphere in the hall became tense and charged.
