Mu Shaosi slowly opened his eyes, trying to shake off the fatigue that had been troubling him. It was likely due to the knife wound; he had been running a fever for several days and had even lost consciousness a few times.
He missed Xinran dearly, but he was too weak to get out of bed to see her. Moreover, his grandfather was causing trouble, preventing Xinran from visiting him. Although they lived under the same roof, they were unable to meet. As for Takeuchi Yasuko, who had been taking care of him, he had grown too lazy to send her away. Sooner or later, she would learn Xinran's true identity, and if she dared to continue bothering him after that, he would not hesitate to drive her away from Dongshan Residence, regardless of the Takeuchi Family's reputation. He, Mu Shaosi, hated nothing more than being entangled with women who did not know their place, except for one woman named Summer.
He slowly sat up and turned his head casually. In an instant, his face seemed to freeze and turn cold. Why was Takeuchi Yasuko lying next to him, and why was she dressed so inappropriately? Looking around, he saw the floor littered with discarded clothing, clearly arranged to create a misunderstanding that he and Takeuchi Yasuko had slept together.
Mu Shaosi let out a cold laugh; he didn't even need to guess who was behind this scheme. The person trying to deceive him was undoubtedly Xinran! He thought about how Xinran must have seen something she shouldn't have. What would she think? Would she be angry? He couldn't help but worry that the good feelings and trust she had developed for him might vanish at any moment.
This would be the last time he allowed his grandfather to sabotage his relationship with Xinran. If there were any more games played, he wouldn't give him another chance!
Struggling to get out of bed, he picked up a shirt from the floor and put it on. Ignoring the still-unconscious Takeuchi Yasuko, he walked straight out of the room. He needed to find out where Xinran was and what she was thinking. Knowing her as well as he did, if she truly got angry, it was entirely possible she would leave the residence immediately. After all, her staying was due to his emotional manipulation, not because she willingly wanted to be there.
Pushing open Xinran's door, Mu Shaosi leaned against the doorframe and looked at her. She was sitting on the edge of the bed with her legs curled up and arms wrapped around her knees, staring blankly out the window. Her expression seemed filled with an indescribable sadness that made his heart ache little by little. If he had known that his grandfather's joke would hurt her, even if it meant facing death himself, he would never have let her come to Japan. All he wanted was for her to be happy under his protection and not allow anyone to harm her.
"Why are you here?" Xinran snapped back to reality and looked at Mu Shaosi, surprised at his presence by the door. "Is your injury better? Can you get out of bed?"
"I suddenly missed you very much, so I came!" Mu Shaosi stepped forward toward Xinran.
"Are you being reckless? What if you tear your wound by getting up like this?" Xinran ignored Mu Shaosi's seemingly heartfelt words. If it had been before, she might have believed him; however, it just so happened that he said this after she had witnessed that unpleasant scene.
He looked injured and appeared quite exhausted as well, so she wouldn't be inconsiderate enough to argue with him. Besides, she felt she had no right to do so; she kept repeating the phrase "no right" in her mind as a reminder not to foolishly question why he had slept with another woman or why he had betrayed her.
Everything is because she is his wife for three months; it is a contract, not a lifelong commitment...
"You're still worried about me, so help me with the medicine! I want you to take care of me!" Mu Shaosi sat beside Xinran, leaning against her with some weakness. He could smell the floral fragrance on her; he knew what kind of body wash she usually used. The scent on her was not that kind, but seemed to emanate from her own being, often tempting him to get closer to her.
"Are you running a fever?" Xinran was startled by the heat radiating from him. She got up to touch his forehead, and the temperature shocked her even more. She hurriedly helped him lie down on her bed and covered him with a blanket.
"Where are you going?" Mu Shaosi grabbed Xinran, who was about to leave. He wanted her to stay with him. Even though this was her room, filled with her fragrant scent, he couldn't bear for her to leave.
"I'm going to get an ice pack; I'll be back soon. You should sleep first, and I'll help you change the dressing in a bit," Xinran said lightly. This man seemed like a child, wanting his parents by his side when he was sick, just like Augus when he was ill.
She temporarily had no mind to think about betrayal or anything like that; right now, she needed to take care of him until he recovered. His fever must be due to an infection in his wound, which made her even more worried. She hoped he wouldn't worsen his injuries...
"If you don't come back, I'll make you pay!" Mu Shaosi struggled to keep his eyes open, staring at Xinran.
"I will definitely come back. If I don't, you can punish me, okay?"
