“Summer, aren't you going back?” Seeing Xinran at the door, Augus was momentarily taken aback.
Xinran turned her gaze to Augus and sneered, “I did go back, but it's somewhat ridiculous to worry that a certain sick person has returned!”
“Ahem…” Augus cleared his throat awkwardly, glancing at his older brother across from him, who remained calm and expressionless as he sat there quietly. “Since you've already heard everything, if I explain further, it would seem like I'm trying to cover something up!”
“Indeed, you don't need to explain. I've heard what I should have and what I shouldn't have! So you are brothers; how blind I was not to notice how much you look alike!” Xinran forced a faint smile and sighed.
“What do you want?” Suddenly, Mu Shaosi spoke coldly, his tone devoid of any emotion, as if he and Xinran had never met.
Hearing this, Xinran smiled. She wanted to laugh hysterically but couldn't bring herself to do it. His words were so absurd, utterly ridiculous. What could she do? Even if she wanted to do something, could she outplay these two brothers?
Her heart felt like it was being pricked by needles, aching deeply. She silently stared at Dong Shan Zhong and softly said, “Rest assured, even if I wanted to do something, I wouldn't endanger the two of you! However, since I've unfortunately stumbled upon this today, I only hope you both can spare my hard-earned career. I don't want to lose everything; please!” After saying this, Xinran suddenly bent down and bowed ninety degrees to Dong Shan Zhong.
“Summer, what are you doing?” Augus stood up, wanting to stop Xinran, but when he met her cold gaze devoid of warmth, his hand froze in mid-air.
“Although what happened between us recently was all fake and just an act, I still want to say thank you. Thank you for taking me to the hospital when I injured my foot. Thank you for sending someone to save me when I was about to be assaulted. Thank you for helping me find the true culprit behind the attempts on my life! But out of courtesy and reason, I still want to express my gratitude!” After finishing her words, Xinran bowed deeply once more.
Mu Shaosi watched as Xinran bowed to him twice; a ripple of emotion appeared on his previously calm face. He slightly furrowed his brow and spoke in a chilling tone: “That woman is not mine!”
“It doesn't matter; whether she is or not is of no concern to me!” Xinran replied indifferently. Then she turned to Augus and said, “As for you Augus, we agreed to play the roles of boyfriend and girlfriend; our relationship was one of mutual use. So it’s my own foolishness for falling for you that has nothing to do with you. There's no reason to blame you. But I must thank you; without you, my career wouldn't have seen any improvement or have a leading role for me to play. So thank you! Now that today has passed, I hope everything between us can come to an end; let’s wipe the slate clean! I'll contact my agent to discuss how we can publicly announce our breakup. If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave now; farewell!”
The third bow was for Augus. Xinran sincerely thanked them and genuinely wanted to distance herself from them. She felt that being able to do this showed her strength. If she had resorted to unreasonable tantrums, endless crying, or even considered using suicide to vent her grievances, she would have despised herself.
"Summer! You..." Augus looked at Xinran's back as she left like a gust of wind, the words he wanted to say caught in his throat.
"So, you were just acting with her?" Mu Shaosi stood up and walked closer to Shaoyang, asking coldly.
"What of it? It's just a matter of reciprocity!" Augus shrugged helplessly, shook his head, and walked out of the guest room.
