"You're awake?"
"Chirp chirp!" The little creature jumped onto Hibiscus's chest, standing there with its round eyes looking at Hibiscus.
"Is it you?" Hibiscus smiled weakly, realizing that the ethereal figure in blue before him was his lifesaving spirit, Water Consort.
"It's not me, I just happened to pass by. It was Cold Heart who saved you." Water Consort shyly touched her earlobe, and Hibiscus then noticed that the small ring on her ear was actually two little snakes, one red and one black, flicking their tongues between her blue hair.
"Cold Heart? Yohsang's brother?"
"Chirp chirp!" The little creature bounced on Hibiscus's chest, looking proud.
"Where is the benefactor now?"
"Chirp chirp!" It continued to bounce.
"Please tell me where they are so I can express my gratitude."
"Chirp chirp!" Bounce bounce bounce!! "Chirp chirp chirp!"
"Are you thirsty? Here, have some water." Water Consort glanced at the little creature that was unusually active on Hibiscus's chest. Hasn't this fellow grown up in hundreds of years?
"Thank you." Hibiscus took the wooden tube.
"You are truly remarkable. The last time I saw you, you were still a mortal, and now you have gathered spiritual energy within you."
"What is spiritual energy?"
"Everything in heaven and earth has spiritual energy, but this energy is constant. For example, humans start losing spiritual energy from the moment they are born; as they age, it gradually dissipates. By old age, when all the spiritual energy is gone, that is the day their soul returns to the Underworld. However, gathering spiritual energy is different; when it exceeds the body's limits, one can transcend mortality. After transcending, one will have a lifespan longer than that of a human. Of course, after transcending, I don't know what happens; I've only heard of those who transcend becoming auspicious beings or immortals and demons."
Celestial, Demon, and Ghost Realms also includes the Underworld Ghost Realm. The Celestials reside in the Heavenly Realm, humans live in the mortal world, and demons exist in the Demon Realm, which is divided into two factions: the Yao Clan) and the Mo Clan. The Yao are formed through cultivation, while the Mo are born of bloodlines. After death, a person's soul returns to the Ghost Realm. Because Celestials and demons possess eternal lives, the Goddess has restricted their reproduction, making it difficult for them to bear offspring. These so-called offspring are those with pure Celestial or demon bloodlines, like Ying Wuxie, while Ying Wuxie's daughter Jinse does not possess such lineage.
"Becoming a Celestial or a demon has nothing to do with me; I am merely an ordinary person trying to survive in this world," Hibiscus said nonchalantly, while the little creature bounced happily on his chest.
"Chirp chirp!" "Chirp chirp!" "Chirp...!"
"Thank you for saving me again, miss. I must take my leave as I think of an old friend," Hibiscus expressed gratitude to Water Consort before stepping back into the vast sandstorm.
"I told you it wasn't me who saved you; it was Cold Heart," Water Consort stood still, watching Hibiscus's retreating figure.
"Chirp chirp!" Despite the strong winds and sand, the little creature was in high spirits, bouncing around on Hibiscus's shoulder. The precious tree on its neck emitted a faint glow, enveloping both Hibiscus and the little creature.
"Little one, since we will be together day and night from now on, I need to give you a name."
"Chirp chirp chirp! Chirp chirp!"
Hibiscus shook his head, unable to understand.
"Chirp! Chirp chirp chirp chirp!" Completely incomprehensible!
The little creature pouted its tiny face and exclaimed, "Chirp...chirp...chirp...! Chirp chirp!"
There was no common language! The little creature jumped in frustration but suddenly had an idea. It picked up the small branch from its chest; with a flash of dark light, the branch transformed into a mouth. The little creature pressed that mouth against its own.
"My name is Cold Heart! Chirp chirp!!"
"Cold Heart? Brother of Yohsang?"
"Chirp chirp!"
"It doesn't look like him at all." He remembered that Cold Heart was an exceptionally handsome man, which had nothing to do with the fluffy appearance of the little creature before him. "Did you save me?"
"Whoosh!" Cold Heart lit up its fluffy head, its round eyes filled with pride.
"Master. Whoosh!"
"Why do you call me Master?"
Cold Heart shook its head, looking confused. Why? It didn't know; it just felt that way in its heart.
It turned out that Hibiscus had been struck by Murong Fusu's Light and Shadow and died instantly. If it hadn't fallen into the light circle, its soul would have long since departed. In a moment of panic, Cold Heart used its innate skill, Resurrection, but it didn't know that this skill came at a cost: the rescuer would become the servant of the deceased. If it were the handsome Cold Heart, it might not have chosen to save, but the cute Cold Heart was the kindest and most wonderful Light and Shadow Sacred Beast in the world; it would never stand by and watch someone die.
"Whoosh!" The little cutie climbed onto Hibiscus's head, bouncing around. It didn't really see him as a master; it was just playing!
"It seems you don't know either." Hibiscus patted the little cutie's head. "Let's go; there's still a long way ahead."
"Whoosh..." One person and one beast walked through the swirling sand. "Thank you for accompanying me," Hibiscus said, looking ahead into the distance, feeling a sense of melancholy. He was no longer the Hibiscus he used to be.
"Is a man's face important?" Hibiscus asked unconsciously as he took out the Mask given by Gusu and put it on his face.
"Whoosh!" The curious little cutie Cold Heart examined the Mask, stretching out its little paw to scratch it. It hopped around on Hibiscus's shoulder again; it was so much fun!
"There are people ahead." Hibiscus quickened his pace. In the desert ahead lay a person on the ground, looking weak and breathless. As he got closer, he realized it was...
"Senior Yun Zhongzi, how did you end up here?" Lying in the desert was actually the divine doctor Yun Zhongzi, who had disappeared for three years. How could he appear in the Western Desert of Ximing?
"Water..." Yun Zhongzi's breath was faint.
"Little Hanxin." Hibiscus quickly called out to Cold Heart, who was looking around.
"Whoosh!" Little Hanxin jumped onto Yun Zhongzi's body, placing its little paw by his lips. A drop of crystal-clear liquid appeared out of nowhere. Hibiscus didn't know what it was, but it smelled quite nice.
"Tree of Life..." Yun Zhongzi murmured, "Tree of Life! This is the sap of the Tree of Life!"
"Little darling, give me another drop." Yun Zhongzi cradled Little Hanxin in his hands, completely ignoring Hibiscus beside him.
"Little darling, grandpa has candy for you." He coaxed gently.
Little Hanxin blinked and looked at Hibiscus; he had a master now and needed to listen to his master's words.
"Senior Yun Zhongzi, what are you talking about?"
"Who are you?" Yun Zhongzi's face turned red; who was this person wearing a Mask?
"Senior... I..."
"Never mind, never mind, I don't want to know who you are."
"Tree of Life, my dear, can you give grandpa a kiss on that tree on your chest?"
Little Hanxin shook his head.
"Then can you give grandpa a drop of life liquid? Grandpa is waiting to save someone."
