"Only nine days left until the exam!" Rek exclaimed. In his previous life, Rek was well aware of the War God System's punishment for the host's death and was certain that if he couldn't make it back to the exam venue on time, the War God System would force his body to run until he died as a punishment for failing the mission.
This seemingly simple task was quite challenging for Rek now. His body had not undergone any training; he was just an ordinary person. Taking the Maglev Train back to the city where the exam was held would have been easy, but relying solely on his legs made him dizzy just thinking about it.
"I'll give it my all!" Rek resolved inwardly. He did not take the Maglev Train away from Sunshine Welfare Institute, but instead, under the strange gazes of others, he briskly walked away on foot.
"Are you not getting on, young man? The bus is about to leave!" a kind-hearted lady asked Rek at the door of the hover bus.
"No, I need to walk more for my health!" Rek replied, swallowing his tears as he began to walk quickly down the path.
After walking for about three hours, Rek finally returned to Dawn City. He hurried to a small shop in Dawn City and bought some water and nutritional drinks, a simple portable sleeping bag, a flashlight, and other supplies.
Then Rek immediately set off again, following the map on his Wrist Communicator as he walked briskly toward his city.
On the first day, Rek only managed to sleep for three hours at night before continuing his journey.
On the second day, the weather was exceptionally hot, and Rek felt like he was about to faint from the heat. However, in order to survive, he dared not stop.
On the third day, blisters formed on Rek's feet. Fortunately, it rained lightly today, and he was walking on a main road.
On the fourth day, in heavy rain, Rek struggled to climb over a small mountain and slipped down the path several times.
--- On the eighth day, Rek was grateful that he could swim because there was a large lake blocking his way ahead. The nearest bridge was far away, and the War God System warned him not to take a boat.
On the morning of the ninth day, having gone without sleep all night for fear of not waking up in time, Rek finally entered his city after nine days of walking. His clothes were tattered and worn as he quickly made his way toward the high school where his exam would take place.
Rek, feeling sore and numb all over, managed to reach the campus just half an hour before the exam, relying solely on his willpower.
He checked his exam room number, which was 3802, using his Wrist Communicator.
Outside the college gate, the proctor nearly chased Rek away, mistaking him for a beggar. Fortunately, Rek quickly presented his identification information from the Wrist Communicator. After several checks, the proctor delayed Rek for another two minutes before allowing him to enter the teaching building.
Just as Rek was about to take the elevator to the thirty-eighth floor, he heard a warning from the War God System in his mind.
"You must run to the exam room on foot; no other facilities may be used. The elevator is included in the prohibited facilities." The cold voice of the War God System echoed in Rek's mind.
"Damn it!" Rek exclaimed angrily as he sprinted toward the stairwell.
At that moment, other candidates were already taking the elevator to their respective exam rooms. Under the curious gazes of other students, Rek began to dash up the stairs.
Climbing stairs was much more exhausting than walking on flat ground, especially since Rek had been moving quickly for nine consecutive days. With each step he took, he felt intense soreness in his thighs, as if his legs no longer belonged to him.
Fortunately, just five minutes before the exam at nine o'clock, Rek arrived at the door of exam room 2 on the thirty-eighth floor.
"What are you wearing to take the exam? Go change your clothes and come back!" a sharp-nosed middle-aged examiner blocked Rek's way and refused to let him enter. At the same time, four or five proctors and security guards approached in the hallway.
Rek still hadn't heard the completion sound from the War God System.
At this point, Rek knew he couldn't afford any more delays; however, given his current physical state, he couldn't force his way into the exam room.
"Step aside! My Wrist Communicator identification shows that I am a candidate for this exam room. You have no right to obstruct my entry. Besides, I am applying to the Dark Space Super Soldier Academy. Do you intend to hinder recruitment for the Star Alliance Federation Military? In my current condition, I might faint at any moment. If I collapse outside this door, I will report you to the Federation military admissions office and sue you until you go bankrupt. I will accuse you of colluding with the Glorious Empire and maliciously obstructing Federation military recruitment!" Rek shouted fiercely.
He then raised his hand and pushed past the proctor blocking his way.
Hearing Rek's words, the proctor hesitated for a moment, glaring fiercely at Rek, but did not take further action to stop him. The nearby proctors and security guards, seeing the boy's boldness, also dared not intervene.
Rek successfully entered examination room 3802 and took his seat by the window.
"Ding dong, congratulations Host on completing the 'Run, Young Man' mission. In nine days, you have successfully run back to the examination room from Glory City to participate in the college entrance examination. Host's body has been trained, taking a small step towards becoming a War God.
Friendly reminder: The upcoming exam will be special for Host, as Host urgently needs training and System also requires energy. Coincidentally, System has detected an unstable energy node of Dark Space near Host's campus and has initiated a connection." The voice of the War God System echoed in Rek's mind.
"What! You actually initiated a connection to the unstable Dark Space node? Most of the creatures that come out of there are monsters!" Rek angrily questioned the War God System in his mind.
"As the Host of the War God System, you must constantly face challenges to grow faster. The monsters emerging from this Dark Space node are obstacles on the path to becoming a War God. Moreover, after absorbing energy from the system, the energy required for you to unleash your innate skills might just be sufficient!" The voice of the War God System resonated in Rek's mind.
"Using innate skills would be great, but only if I can survive. What type of Alien Species do you detect coming from this Dark Space node?" Rek helplessly asked the War God System. Currently, without a Genetic Mech, his physical condition was poor, and he estimated that even the weakest Alien Species would be difficult to handle.
"It belongs to a psychic infection type of Alien Species: the Multi-Faced Man. It carries a Dimensional Space Barrier. Since the system forcibly pulled at the Dark Space node, as long as you can survive within the Dimensional Space Barrier for three hours, the Main Plane of Earth will repel the Multi-Faced Man's barrier, sending it back to the Dark Space. The system can absorb a significant portion of energy from the shattered barrier at that time." The cold voice of the War God System sounded in Rek's mind.
"You are ruthless! A Multi-Faced Man with a Dimensional Space Barrier! That's a high-level mutated type of Alien Species! You're sending me to my death!" Rek said dejectedly.
The War God System fell silent. However, it was too late for Rek to run now; the exam bell rang as two proctors entered with test papers and closed the examination room door. He felt the temperature inside the room beginning to drop.
Several sensitive students shivered.
