Rek began walking around the orphanage, with many children curiously watching the new volunteer. Rek gathered a few kids and started telling them stories. After about ten minutes, more than twenty children surrounded Rek, listening intently to the tales.
Once Rek finished, he began asking the children for their names. "My name is Rek, and I am a new volunteer. I will be spending time with you all for a while, so please introduce yourselves."
"Brother, my name is Carly."
"I'm Emma! Will you tell us stories every day, brother?"
"My name is---"
A bunch of kids chimed in excitedly; after all, they were thrilled to have a young person telling them fascinating stories.
After listening to them, Rek noticed that none of them mentioned an Alice.
"It seems the charm of the stories isn't enough. I wonder if Alice has inherited the War God System Feather. I can't quite remember when Alice went on a rampage and killed everyone in the orphanage, but it should have been recently. The massacre at the orphanage was reported in the last life on Federal News, just before my college entrance exams. I need to hurry," Rek thought to himself.
After telling a few more short stories and dispersing the children around him, Rek approached a chubby kid to inquire about a girl named Alice.
"Brother Rek, you're looking for Alice? She spends all her time daydreaming. Right now, she's probably under that big tree, sleeping against it. But be careful; Alice can be quite fierce," the chubby kid whispered to Rek.
Nodding in acknowledgment, Rek looked over to see a blonde girl sleeping with her eyes closed against a large tree.
At that moment, Alice appeared to be just an ordinary and adorable little girl, vastly different from the cold-blooded legend of Alice recorded in future accounts of the Star Alliance.
Rek felt that several staff members in the orphanage were secretly watching him, after all, he was still an unknown outsider.
Rek quickly walked to the big tree, closely observing Alice, who seemed either asleep or lost in thought.
He couldn't believe that such a cute little girl would, in a few years, be transformed into a ruthless female warrior by the War God System, becoming an extremely powerful war goddess.
Just as Rek wanted to get closer to observe Alice, she suddenly opened her eyes. Those deep eyes seemed to see through the future and the good and evil of humanity, but Alice appeared quite surprised to see Rek.
"Strange, you shouldn't be here!" Alice said in a soft voice.
"I'm here for a better chance at survival!" Rek replied instinctively.
"Who are you? What do you know?" Alice asked quietly.
"Who I am isn't important, but I know disaster is about to strike," Rek said.
"Yes, disaster is inevitable. You're here for the feather, right? You want that demon!" Alice asked.
"It seems you've already inherited the War God System Feather. Yes, I want it, for a better chance at survival," Rek said cautiously, feeling somewhat surprised and adopting a defensive stance, preparing for unarmed combat. He regretted coming so hastily without bringing a knife or dagger. Although he still had combat experience from the future apocalypse, his body was too weak now. He feared that if he fought Alice, he might not be able to defeat this War God System Feather's Host.
"Haha!" Alice laughed loudly, her eerie laughter drawing the attention of those around them.
Looking at Rek, Alice said, "In the future, you might regret your decision today! The War God System Feather is not a good thing!"
"You seem to know a lot, Alice. Facing the impending apocalypse, even if the War God System Feather is dangerous, it can help me survive!" Rek replied seriously.
"Since you've made your decision, then take the War God System Feather, if you have the ability to obtain it! I should be freed from this endless cycle. Right now, I haven't inherited the War God System Feather, or rather, in this life, I am not yet the Host of the War God System Feather."
The War God System Feather will appear at midnight tonight, right beside me. Whether you can obtain it depends on your abilities. As for your other questions, you will gradually learn them once you become the Host of the War God System Feather. I hope you can live a little longer!" Alice said calmly to Rek. After saying this, Alice seemed to feel a sense of relief, as if she had laid down a heavy burden.
"The War God System Feather hasn't appeared yet! How do you know about it? Did you come back from the future?" Rek asked in surprise. He had thought he was the only time traveler, but it turned out that this cold-blooded legend, Alice, who was supposed to die in battle against Alien Species five years later, had also returned from the future.
"It's just a small tool! There's no escaping the inevitable Punishment. The War God System's reincarnation item is a Reward. When the War God System Feather parasitizes, it will kill all creatures deemed a threat within a certain range, except for the Host. I don't want to slaughter the children and staff of this orphanage again. Meet me at the back door of the orphanage at eleven-thirty tonight. We will leave the orphanage and find a secluded place to wait for the arrival of the War God System Feather demon. I hope you have good luck and can be chosen as the new Host in my place.
Let me advise you: if the War God System Feather parasitizes me tonight, you must escape immediately. Even if you want to kill me to obtain the War God System Feather, you must wait until after tonight's protection period ends." Alice's cold voice said to Rek as she stood up and walked toward the orphanage building.
For a moment, Rek was overwhelmed by the information Alice had shared and stood dazed under the large tree.
"Forget it; whether what Alice said is true or not, I'll secretly leave the orphanage with her tonight. If the War God System Feather doesn't appear, I'll just kill her or keep her under house arrest," Rek thought to himself.
Rek returned to the orphanage building and directly sought out the elderly woman who had welcomed him.
"I just spent some time with the children and feel that I am more suited for life in the outside world. I can't continue volunteering at the orphanage," Rek said.
The old woman looked at Rek and had anticipated his departure but didn't expect him to leave so soon. After all, it's hard to find workers who don't require payment, and he was leaving after just one afternoon.
"Alright then, if you have a chance in the future, feel free to visit Bright Orphanage anytime; you are always welcome here," the old woman said to Rek. She thought about how Rek had just come to donate money not long ago; perhaps he would come back to donate again in the future. Ah! Today's young people really lack perseverance.
Rek nodded and turned to leave the orphanage as a group of children watched sadly as their story-telling big brother walked away.
